Why are some pros not riding next years product?????

looking the the jon olsson updates i saw simon was riding last/this years dumonts and andreas was on this years scrathchs, how come hes not on the S$ right now and simon isnt on next years dumont or suspects, this is the first year i have seen this and its not a very good good by these guys promoting their sponsors, if i was rossi or salomon i would want them on next years stuff, when i look at this it makes me think the new skis coming out arent as good as the product from this year, thoughts?

yeah at the x games big air simon used this years dumonts then on his second run he used next years

this is my theory (its pure speculation) that those skis although they are probably older have been hot boxed/waxed more and are a bit faster. its weird but sometimes one pair of skis is just faster then another pair faster base or somthing like that. And with HUUUUGE jumps like these i would Imagen that they need all the speed they can get so they would use the fastest skis they have.

^That sums it pretty well

Andreas may just prefer the Ghetto to the S4? (or whatever the equivalent is)

Maybe dumont likes the CAP contrution (this year) better than the sidewall one(next year).

But the wax theory is very plaudible too.

But even the racers use next years skis and Salomon definatly have ovens to prepare the base for wax like the one that racers uses. And why don't Salomon put a world cup base on their pro skis like the pipe cleaners or their special pipe teneightys back in the days.(maybe a racer or a cross country skier can tell us more about the oven technique).

it could also be that at the comps they want the skis that they are used to and will do the best on ,but they are probably using next years during there film shoots

i saw andreas on the new ones like two months ago, he might have just broken them or whatever, or as the other person said with the wax and whatnot.

lets say that you use a certain pair of skis all year and get quite comfortable on them, break in the flex, get used to weight, length, width and then on a comp day you are told to use a brand new pair of skis, not broken in yada yada yada. it just would make sense that you would do better on your broken in skis

i know a few racers who have pretty legit ski sponsors and they always are sent 2+ pairs of skis, they test them figure out which one is the fastest (like i said before some ski are seemingly inexplicably faster then others) use that one as their race ski choose the second fastest one as their trainer and give any extras back to the rep. So thats where my theory was born.

but as a park skier your not as focused on finding the fastest ski you can, Its not as critical as it is in racing. And if you know a certain pair of skis is faster then another i think you'd go with the faster pair for your own sake.

Why don't the company's just make the previous years skis with different graphics for the pros, but when they sell them to the public they make them different

yea well there not supposed to wear next years stuff i guess its what i heard
notice they never wear next years armadas
i think??

They obviously wear next years stuff and are allowed to thats why they send it to them, not just to put in their closet...

companies only make a certain number of next years skis before the final shipment is ordered or received in like augest september. so there not a huge amount of next years even available, but honestly i have no idea y people like simon and andreas aren't decked out in 09 gear?

It's intersting if thats the case - i would have thought rossi would stronly push him to rep 09 gear??..

I am dissapointed to see that the pros aren't riding next years models... But to tell you the truth I prefer last years models as well.

There might be something wrong with the skis such as the problem ripping out like this years walls. Next years are bomb proof.

The more you wax a ski the faster it gets. Most racers dont get the new skis for years, they just put the newest topsheet on. Why switch now when your already on something your used to?

last year's fs wrs was a completely new ski to the previous year's scratch fs. 3 years isn't that long to have an unchanged design. they'll prolly make a new one for '10.

I don't follow salomon, but my opinion is that the dumont has slightly different lengths, widths, flex, construction (cap) etc. then the suspects. Rossi for sure the ghetto's are completely diff than the S4 - For me personally I just like one pair more than the other, still ride super old black and white BC because the are perfect, even when trashed (almost better, more confident wont catch an edge etc)

Chances are they are still testing next years skis. Especially with Dumont's skis for next year... This will be the first time Salomon is doing Sidewall construction for their park skis so they more than likely are still working out bugs. where there is no question that his current skis work so if he is doing an important comp or photo shoot why not use something you know will work instead of having something not work the way you expect it. Similar story with Rossignol... they have a very new line of skis for next year... the changes go far beyond just new cosmetics so they may well still be tweaking the new designs.

The athletes then test when they arent on important photo shoot or comp.

mostly speculation... but makes sense to me

Why would some pro's like andreas use the new skis at the Xgames and then change back. How can the not bu used to a ski a couple of months after the Xgames

Salomon had only made their suspect (and i think dumont too) in 176. (presumably to emphasize that this is a new size for them)

Some riders find this too short, and therefore ride the old ones instead.

But believe me: product development is already done. Otherwise all the magazine tests would not have any value for next years skis.

I would not know anything about the Rossignols

yeah, i dont really know why, but uhh are the suspects next years thrusters or spks cuz im tryin to decided what skis to get

i have skied two different pairs of punishers this year and the second pair is incredibly more fast like i probably have one of the fastest pairs of skis in the park and i haven't waxed um all year i think that its just one of those cases..

i dont really know if i can buy the fact that they get used to certain skis, if these guys are some of the best park skiers in the world they should be able to adjust to differnt or new product super fast, i ski on dumonts and pipecleaners and i do a run and i am comfy on that ski, i also like new stuff way better than skis used for even a month or two cause some of the pop is gone, and there is a bunch of stuff out for net year already, at the shop i work at i have already mounted up a few pairs of next years dumonts and rossis for people

on jumps that large I would want to stick with my gear that I had used all season and not just jump on a new pair of skis that havent been broken in yet.
