The size of the mmarket. Armada makes more probally per pair of skis, but they only sell a small fraction of that of a company like Burton. I have no idea why the manufacturing cost of skis in general are so much (carving, racing etc...). Internationally the market for skis is much larger then snowboards. I know that twin-tips make up a very small market share for skis but... that doesn't provide an excuse for the rediculous price of skis. The fact that there is only one makes no sense. It requires less materials to make skis then snowboards.

it costs basically exactly the same to make ONE snowboard as it does to make ONE SKI, only with slightly more materials, hence why TWO skis cost more than ONE snowboard

Haha trash 'bigger market'. There are like 4 skiers to every one snowboarder. Skiing is a way bigger market. Snowboards are quickly catching up in price though. Ride has a $650 board, K2 has one that's $620, and Burton has one that's $600. But there definetly is a little more production cost in two planks vs just one.

these are both right. there is a larger market for snowboards, (plus most are made in china like k2) ant they cost mort to build. yeah, there is about the same wood and fiberglass, but you have more than double the edges and shut. plus, they have to match flex patterns per ski.

yea. as far as twintips go, we are outnumbered grossly by snowboarders. But there is still all the 40-50 year old carver loving skiers to make the ski market strong, so it's not accurate to say that snowboarding has a bigger market. But it makes sense that skis cost more because for every set of skis you have to go through the whole manufacturing process twice instead of once.

^yes it is! i took 2 hours of lessons 5 years ago and i was turning as an olympic champ, doin powder and a little freestyle!

i took years and years to do the same with skis. moreover, more tricks available on skis

lets stop the hate. both sports are sweet i just feel like ski companies are exploiting the fuck out of us. . if you look back in the early 90s snowboards were still cheaper than skis; even with the smaller markets. 700 and plus for skis is just wrong.

snowboarding isnt a bigger market, its mostly kids to like 30 year olds who snowboard, however, freestyle skiing is a smaller market relative to snowboarding, you can get skis wicked cheap, but getting twin tips is expensive.
