Why are racers such assholes?

Its so true about young racers being dicks.

I used to race for 12 years and when I was 13-14 I was such a cock on the slopes. We used to play "spray the snowboarders" sitting in the middle of the piste and kept score. It was the funniest thing in the world cos you could just bomb off at 60 miles an hour and never see them again.

I repent, may all race kids be righteous in the future.

Basically, being good at skiing, as a racer or freestyler, gives you a feeling of power on the slopes and as cocky teenagers, this power is abused. Be you a rude boy cool dude or a mischeivous little shit, think what you're doing... We should all just get along.

also think of it this way if we practiced racing down a hill like they do we could get it down in a day or even a few hours they couldnt get 3,5,7's down i bet if they had twins they couldnt ride switch in 1 day

Dont be a prick. I could ride switch before twin tips were invented.

Race training is such a good way to develop your skiing.

Everyone should do both and definitely go to race training as a youngster, simply to help make you a better overall skier and so enjoy your skiing even more. Just doing jumps wont make you able to ski backcountry or varied terrain as well as you could.

its more of a team/mob mentality than the racers themselves. when you train as a team at the same mtn everday, you begin to feel like it is your home, and as you meet the staff and lifties and become friends you feel like part of the mtn is yours. then there are public skiers who dont know shit, and they get annoying, so racers hate them. the problem is tho that they identify everyone they dont kno as a public skier, and start hatin on everyone. it is rediculous but thats why, and i used to race and thats how i felt, but i would never say anything, and i had always loved park skiing, so i was a bit of a kiss ass to the good kids over in the park, but they hated me cuz i wore racing gear. so yea.

racing sucks. there's never anything new. it's always going around some fucking flags. with free-skiing, there's always something new you can learn, that and you don't wear a tight as shit suit

from my experiences at my school, which i race for, the team is really laid back and get along well with the other kids at the mtn. i know where this stereotype comes from though cause i know some of the racer douches. most of the kids on my ski team use practice as an excuse to go in the woods and smoke bowls haha

hahahah...

You think you could learn to ski a GS course in a day? Thats a joke. Maybe you could get down it, but I guarantee you that if you have never raced, you have no idea how hard it is.

I'm the exact same way as you. I've met some asshole racers, but then I've met some really chill racers too. and for some dude who said they dont blaze enough, I've met racers who blaze more than some freeskiers I know. I've met racers who are dealers...soo that statement's wrong. and freezed is right too. racing's a lot harder than it looks. you can't just pick it up in a day. just respect people for what they do and (hopefully) they'll respect you back. I hate when skiers hate on eachtoher

I race and I dont think it is very hard at all, especially if you have sharp edges. The only thing that makes at tough for me is that my edges are completely dull from rails.

yeah, how dumb can you be? what the first guy wrote actually happend, what you wrote didn't! you cant just change out words and say thats how it also is!

racers are so gay. they always think there so good. like i was doin some threes and trying to get them like with grabs like mutes and stuff kus im pretty bad but like this racer guy comes and thinks hes all that in the park, doesnt do nerails at all. hits the jump and has the most pencel steeze ever and barely lands it. and he was like braggin how he can 7 and shit like that.

i race and i havent run into any asshole races like your guys are talking about. you guys are sterio typing evry racer out there as a dumbshit know it all.

rofl, why the fuck would somebody with RACING SKIS gor on rsails and fuck up the bases?????? racing skis are really expensive, mine are 1400$ and im pretty sure you would do rails with that kind of ski

where i live, all the good skiers are complete assholes...i dont know why either. i mean, they are amazing at skiing and they could be so helpful to people but instead they just call evryone "fag" and do cork 5's....i think it sucks

yeah yesterday at the big air comp at my park me and a couple freestyle guys were chillin waiting for our run and some faggot ass racers came up and were being all gay trying to make fun of us and we were just like you try and clear this jump let alone do a trick on it fags and they just shut up

Well I don't know about that because every skier that I raced with was either really good and respectful, or just plain chill. Hell some can get more air off a snow blown knoll on groomers than you could off a 50fter. No offence is supposed to be made I'm just saying that you're either a Goddamned liar or the kids are total fags and should not be taken as the rep. of all racers.

Well he's saying racers wouldn't hit some jump that he was so I was making a point back (trying without offending him) saying that racers are crazier than you can imagine and more skilled as well.

no way man, old dudes at the mountain are fuckin awesome, they tell the funniest stories on the lift. plus they are usually really good cause theyve been doin it for like 50 years. theyre mad chill

ya but wat bout the old guys that stare at u like ur gona steal his wallet and rape his daughter cause u have a set of twins and baggy pants. those bastards piss me off

well man, think of it this way, do you like twintip skis and wearing baggy pants ? they fucking do it. look, this guy is on vacation, he skis 4 days a year and your never gonna see him again in your entire life anyways. so who gives a shit, turn your headphones up and bang your head like an idiot. as long as your having fun on the mountain then fuck people who dont like your clothes.

actually, same goes if they're locals

if racers, park rats, big mountain guys etc. dont like what your doing then fuck them

WHY THE HATE? Sliding on snow is fucking rad.

It's cool because there are so many different ways to do it and have fun. I love seeing people get stoked, whether they're making their first wedge turns or stomping the shit out of a switch cork 9. Not many other sports are like that. Take basketball...there's rules and stuff, and if you can't get the ball through the hoop, it's not fun. With skiing and snowboarding, it's your own interpretation...what it means to you.

Try not to be so narrow-minded, and don't pretend like you've never been snaked in the park.

i think the problem is the group mentality. Racers tend to hang in larger groups than most "other" skiers. And the fact of the matter is that racers usually have the best skiing technique on the mountain and they recognize this. A feeling of superior skiing ability mixed with group mentality leads to negative actions. I've seen the same thing happen when inexperienced skiers have done fairly lame runs through a park only to be insulted and ridiculed by large groups of park rats. It's all skiing, so don't worry about it. It's fun.

WERD.

I hate aney group of people that travel in large packes. Weither its the mass of shitty snowboarders, the masses of newb skiiers or the posses of ski racers. Its just super annoying to be cut infront (for a lift line or a park feature) by anyone. I've traveled in mass too, everyone does it, but I can still wait my turn. Unlike the racers.

No it takes great skill to strait air a jump- one that isn't even meant to be a jump. They are bombing down trails and they see a knoll/bumb/drop off and they'll hit it blind keeping their speed and stomp the shit out of it and keep going at the same charging pace. It's incredible and really that is what makes a good skier, the ability to go into an uncontrolled situation and come out clean like it was just eating morning breakfest.

sometimes i wear my gs suit in the park...... i like the way it compliments my figure....o i make sure i wear my shin and pole guards too....

the only people who post in these are people who have strong opinions, thats why the argument just goes back and forth back and forth. Realize this most racers do freestyle at some point, remember this most freestylers race at some point. so fuck anyone that disses the other

racers are unhappy all the time because the spandex is constantly pushing their nuts so far up into their stomachs they can taste em.

as a matter of fact i do newbie, in fact i raced for 4 years before twin tip skis came out and i said fuck this to the whole spandex and skiing in a path someone else mapped out for me. never made a better decision ever.

i don't have posts under this name because i had to switch names as i switched sponsors k2 to elan- but it is cool- just stop hating on people and p.s. doing both freestyle and racing doesen't make you any different from anyone else as i said everyone choses their own path

I see and deal with a lot of racers on a daily basis at my shop. Some of them are assholes, others spoiled little bitches. Then some are really chilled and layed back. The point is you can't say racers are assholes cause a lot of people who I've sold twin tips to are cock sucking dick wads. But again there are a lot of cool people who buy/ride freestyle. To say racers are assholes is an unfair generalization. Also a lot of racers ski park when they get a chance to freeski, you would be surprised at how many of them have a pair of twin tipped skis to screw around on. Moral of the story, some racers are assholes, some aren't. Same way some of the people on newschoolers are assholes and then a lot of you are just really chilled out people.

^ you are right, generalizations are ignorant becuase they ignore the simple fact that most groups of people represent a large enough demographic and variances in backgrounds that it is unfair to make generalizations
