I think its because these athletes are rich kids, and wealth is probably positively correlated with attractiveness.

Also, athletes have athletic bodies, which makes them better looking.

it's also part of the fact that a sponsored skier is an advertisement for a company. you want them to look good and desirable and give the consumer positive associations with the product. there are plenty of skiers who are really good but aren't consistent, pretty, likeable enough to be a person worth sponsoring

i don't really like ninthward but one of their dudes was telling me years ago something kind of interesting, his claim was that one of their schticks was supporting people other than the pretty rich-looking folks you usually see sponsored, they were sick of that divide. a commendable notion, even if i don't love their whole vibe etc
