Why are men so threatened by Sierra?

She takes memes poking fun on a topic to start a conversation way far out of context to put others down and support her “positive” message.

Okay NS. Please settle this for me... Why do male skiers seem to have so much hate in their souls for Sierra Quitiquit? I really don't understand why they feel so strongly about her when she is simply doing her own thing? I have seen so many bash her in comments over the years and would love to know what the root of this is.

I watched her documentary a few years back and she has been through so much. Seems like a great person, and she's a solid skier. Am I missing something? Because it feels like a very one-sided argument

competition skiers travel often and far and probably have very large carbon footprint on a similar level as sierra, although most of those skiers are only flying on commercial airlines. that doesn't change the fact that their activities are pumping CO2 into the atmosphere, but in my opinion it is different than skiers riding in helicopters - helicopters take an extraordinary amount of energy to fly because their power is active, meaning that the engine must be operating at full power at all times to maintain lift. planes create lift passively through the airfoil, so the engine is much more efficient. not to mention, plane emissions are distributed among the entirety of the crew and passengers, which is likely anywhere between 50-400 people. helicopters can literally fly like 10 people max, so the individual footprint is considerably higher. just to think about.

Helicopters have airfoils too, and are roughly as sufficient as small airplanes when in forward flight, the reason for limited capacity (with exception of the chinook) is due to need of applications, and not due to inefficiency of fuel burn #dontfuckwithmybelovedhelis

She posted a really dumb take on a meme and now people find any reason to hate her. I don’t think without her doing that anyone would know who she is

Breh, Sierra might be cringy and corny but so is hating on her. It's like 69, if you don't click then it might actually go away. Of course, here I am too tho.

Okay but isn't literally any "pro" skier also driving a truck and sled and flying in helicopters and planes, but also telling you to vote for the environment a hypocrite.

"Lavish lifestyle that most of us could only dream of" wreaks of jealousy FYI

fanboi alert or Sierra's NS account can't tell

no beef with her, just would like to see more female ski personalities like herself start to get more involved at a grassroots level with younger women and girls, help organizations out like SheJumps and other nonprofits, and help keep younger girls in a sport thats heavily dominated by males. This goes for the males too. Theres a lack of giving back in our sport thats a bummer.

edit since a ton of my post got cut:

Just gonna put out some opinions:

1) pretty sure Sierra made this thread based on the whack trace of thought and responses

2) 125,000 followers but

But helicopters as a unit cost a lot more than an airplane of equivalent efficiency. Both up front and for maintenance. Also, I would expect paying for pilots is more expensive because there are fewer and more difficult (just speculating here).

Crazy helicopters as a whole ass unit cost more than planes, nice.

Lol i may have been a little intoxicated and didn't read your first post clearly. I was just listing more reasons why planes are used so much more

what's the fastest kind of helicopter, helicopter boys? this heli thread rules

The top speed limitor on a helicopter is the rotor blades, because they're spinning one side goes forward while the other goes backward if that makes sense. So at high speeds, the forward moving side makes a lot more lift and the backward moving side makes a lot less lift. This can be incredibly unstable and unflyable, but look at what some of these designs do to overcome this.

Up first, the fastest "standard" heli: Westland Lynx - 249 MPH

978133.jpeg

This British helicopter held the speed record for over 30 years, made in the 80s.

Eurocopter X3 - 293 MPH

978134.jpeg

As you can see, instead of a normal tail rotor, it has twin forward facing propellers like a plane. They are extended out from the fuselage so they can easily manage the yaw while helping it fly forward with more speed. It looks like the booms have airfoils that would help increase stability at high speed.

Sikorsky X2 - 299 MPH

978135.jpeg

The X2 has counter-rotating rotors that remove the requirement for a yaw controlling tail rotor, allowing a massive pusher prop to give it speed. Because they're spinning in opposite directions, they each have the high lift and low lift sides on different sides, effectively cancelling out the ill effects.

holy shit!!! 300 mph!!

That’s so fucking dope

That's sick. At what point does a helicopter become a plane though?

May I present to you the V22 Osprey:

978143.jpeg

978142.jpeg

Top speed: 351 MPH but that's when it's flying as a plane. These things sound so cool. They're big too, can carry like 30 troops and their gear

I think her image perpetuates the idea of women in action sports just being sex symbols. It sets the example that if you’re pretty enough, you can make it as an athlete. For examples of women who are smashing stereotypes look to Angel, Elyse, The Blondes, etc...

Not only that but when it is in plane mode the rotors rotate something like 6 inches away from the glass in the cockpit because they are so large.....

Don't stick your hand out
