Why are a lot of park skiers dicks to each other?

When I'm skiing in the park whether with friends or not, theres this one guy I see a lot who's like in college with his friends at the park and thinks he's the shit at the hill. He always acts like a total dickbag calling you out if you mess up on a trick and try's to act thug. One time I was yelling to my friends at the bottom in excitement after landing my first back 4 out of a rail and the guy starts mocking me and laughing with his friends. No one needs those people at the hill and there's no need for that when your trying to enjoy a weekend from school.

So one day cruisin through the park see this little kid trying to hit a box for the first time and this douchey snowboard sprays him then cuts him off right after he gets off the box.

oooh who are you talking about, I think I know who you're talking about, but it's more of snowboarders I see doing this.

From my experience trying to ski with some random kids it's usually the kids at lower level skiing abilities (not gapers) who are more friendly and welcoming.

Its nice that in the UK we dont really have this problem, I think everyones more stoked on the fact the skiing is possible here, even if its in a fridge or on grassy hill.

I see this all the time. Especially at mountains on the east coast. I try to find people who are better than me at freestyle to push me to do better. Whenever I do try and talk with other groups they are most of the time assholes. Not to say all are, but some. But can we be honest, racers are the biggest assholes on the fucking mountain.

Idk about you guys, but in my experience park riders are a pretty laid back group of people. Most of the time if I'm riding at a new mountain all I have to do is say something nice and then they say something nice in return and then bam, you're riding together. Sure, there are some assholes. However, for the most part we're all there for the same thing. If you have a problem with everyone on the mountain then it might be your attitude that's off, not theirs.

i dont have a problem with the whole scene of park skiers at all, but like you said, were all there to do basically the same thing. We should at least be chill to eachother and not dis younger kids trying to excel or people that are just not as good as us. If were gonna dis anyone it should be the racers wearing saga over their speed suits.

Move to Tahoe and hire Noah Curry as a body guard. No one will ever be an asshole to you again, I promise.

actually thinking of heading to tahoe when i graduate

Why even dis them though? I just like to ski and make jokes. If there are people I don't like I'll make a point not to ride with them but for the most part park riders are at least tolerable.

Back when my brother was in high school I would ski around his friends who were cool and at our mountain the hometown kids have a huge group of kids and I always saw the kids from the mountains town try to fight with a few of the good kids from my towns group because they though they were the shit. Now Im in my brothers friends position and Im good friends with all the kids from the other town but going to other mountains nearby I encounter kids who try to pick fights because theyre trying to be hoodrats with there full tilts and afterbangs and they try to cut lift lines.

The most annoying thing I see is the dicks of the park cutting off little kids on normal runs and mouth off at the parents. I understand the kids in the park thing but on normal runs its obsurd. They dont have to prove any superiority, theyre just trying to be cool when its just skiing.

I spent an entire day during college weekend at Whistler this year skiing with a very random, very talented 15 year old kid who had grown up skiing indoors until just recently. He had just been moved out to Whis from england where he grew up and had tons of interesting shit to say about it all

While all my friends were hungover and sleeping I played skate with someone I will probably never see again,

turned out to be way more fun than keeping to myself

Some of my best experiences skiing have been skiing with/meeting strangers on lifts. My friends and I used to split up in the lift line and ride up with other people in the line. You can always spot ahead a group of 3 people who look interesting and make the 4th person on the chair.

It's a good way to meet the women too. Why do you think so many people in Breck yell "Single!" in the lift line?

Can't tell if trolling. -k

That was so funny bro! nice trollz!!1!!1

Fuck off go back to epicski you shitty troll. NS has enough shit without having to put up with you.

Most of skiers are friendly and open to meet new people, but there is a part of them that are sucking each other dicks thinking theire the best shit out on the mountain.

People in places well known for skiing tend to be more competitive/less accepting of worse skiers.

I noticed this the last time I went up to park city. the people weren't outright assholes or anything, but they didn't want to talk to me at all on the lift. they just kinda acted like I wasn't there, which was a huge difference from my local mountain where everyone pretty much talks to you.

that kid who rides volkl skis and wears a white helmet, I haven't done anything wrong by him but he seems to think its okay to bag people out due to their outerwear style. he is a bit of a dick.

I'll ensure I look out for him next time I'm down. Would be funny to fuck around with him.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality responses in this thread.

It's just like any other sport or any other social activity. When you get a group of younger people (guys especially) together, it's easier to judge and ostracize rather than understand and accept. It takes more courage that people appreciate to reach out to someone and help or to invite someone to ski with you, or simply to encourage them to try something new.

Growing up, I never had a whole lot of skier friends, so I always went it alone in the park. I can confirm that in general, park rats can be a dick crowd. They're much quicker to laugh at you when you bite it than to cheer for your attempt and even offer a few words of advice.

I can only hope that all the positive responses in this thread translate to actions in the real world. It's really easy to say online that you're accepting and chill, but then turn around and fall right back in line with your douchebag buddies who laugh at everyone.

exactly why I'm getting more into MTB than skiing these days... bikers never give a fuck (probably because you never have to mess with lift lines, huge crowds, etc anywhere) and are always courteous when they're behind you on trails or whatever. Sure, there's always gonna be dickheads in every sport but I feel like skiing has got to be full of the cockiest mofos in the mountains.

Especially in a place like breck, and I'm not even talking about the park skiers, there's a shitload of big mtn wannabe fuckheads who look down on your tall jacket because it's not gay ass arcteryx or stoic.

A lot of the time it stems from their own insecurities as a skier and person, just trying to be too cool. A lot of it has to do with age too. Generally, the 13-18 demographic is more likely to be dick-ish then 18+. I experienced it a lot when I was growing up too, some people are just assholes or bullies. Try to brush it off and meet some other people. So many kids are just trying to be the best and think they are the shit, in reality, they aren't and probably suck at life and skiing.

It's not just skiers, but people in general. Think about the people at your school, I'm guessing some are cool and some are pricks.

Agreed. the 14-18 year old kids are the ones mainly who embarrass me to associate with that group of skiers. But what can you do right? Makes the rest of us look better. I just love watching these kids slop their way down the hill...no form, horrible skiing and suck at the park on top of it all...yet act like the shit

east coast park kids-dicks because they are mad about their skiing abilities and size of mountain they are skiing at/size of features skiing on.

west coast park kids-high as fuck. chillin.

personal opinion and this may have been said already as i haven't read this fully, but i think its a head game, u get inside a persons head just to fuck with them, make them mess up some how, and then ull do good and be the "cooler" looking guy/gal

We're dicks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dicks. And the Film Actors Guild are pussies. And Kim Jong Il is an asshole. Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes who just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate — and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves... because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know that if you don't let us fuck this asshole, we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

hate those damn racers lol. i ski at a mountain of 8000ft vertical and the racers roll around like they kill it when the race course is 30 yards long

ive had some park days that are chill as fuck, but if you ski park in colorado your going to encounter some front range a..holes that will be dicks in general. especially if your not dressed in their favorite brand's xxxl tall tee and like to wear a helmet. best plan of attack is to shut em up by skiing better than they do and not saying anything to them as you smoke their monkey asses all the way back to the lift
