Whos has been to windells already this year

i just got back from sesh 1. we did not ski windells park once. at all. we just hit public park.
 
you can't control the weather, and it was nasty this past week and snowing a lot. we had a ton of fun in the public park tho, and from now on Windells lane will be rocking for sure. Sorry to anyone who was let down by session one, but there are some elements you just have to deal with....
 
Hahahha yeah. Getting snow isn't an excuse to why the park wasn't built and ready to ride for the campers. I'm sure riding the public park was fun, but that's not what they paid for. I would be really upset if I flew all the way out to Mt. Hood and spend over 2,000 dollars (transportation) and just session a flat box. That's just me though.
 
ehh...i was bummed out for sure, but i understand that it wasn't their fault that the park wasn't build. there was rain and snow for 2 days straight. but yea some sort of compensation would be sick, like a discount for a session next year.
 
well here was the week

day 1 - we went up, there was fresh snow, no windells park yet, we seshed 1 box all day

day 2 - we went up, they said the windells park was buried and it wasn't ready, we seshed public park, which was sick.

day 3 - we got to the hill, it was rainy and windy and the park wasn't ready, the coaches had a meeting and we went home

day 4 - i woke up, got ready, and my counselor told me that we were not going up because the mountain was closed

day 5 - public park, windells park not ready

day 6 - public park, same

i am in no way trying to bag on windells, it was soooo fun and a sick experience, i just think they could have handled the situation better. but it was still a sick time.
 
A session is longer than two days...it just baffles me that, considering they should have had a park on day 1, they could produce nothing over the course of the week, unless it was precipitating the whole time. Why was the public park able to be built, but not Windells?
 
so im asumming you are there since you are saying all of this... im wondering how the mtv thing is going! i just read that thread... sounds, really shitty actually. and to the guy above me, i may be wrong since it was a while ago but i seem to remember the public park and windells park being on the same level just on oppisite sides.
 
I payed 50 dollars for a lift ticket and sessioned the public park while hanging out with the Windells crew
 
wow. that is HORRIBLE. like said above, i admire your positive attitude. i would be so pissed off about that. i'm gonna say they definitely owe you something, because that is just plain shitty.
 
true. but summer camp is my only option right now for summer skiing, because i'm too young to just take off and go stay whereever and sesh public park. but camp was sick, and the coaching was worth it.
 
a SICK jump line, a bunch of rails and boxes, and some mini jumps. but the big jump line is legit, such fun jumps.
 
ya i went to sess 1 2. it was super legit skiing w/ all the sick coaches out there but still realistically the weather was pretty bad. i was kinda bummed about not having windells lane open but it was still so sick. i learned so much and the first day the whole mt was still open and we had freshies it was so dope. id still gladly go again just probably a little later.
 
inside sources told me tht tim didnt want to put the extr money into having to keep rebuilding plus the fact that theyd have to pay the park crew an extra weeks pay so he skimped out but idk what the true reason is. to me i see no reason whatsoever why they couldnt of pumped out a decent park with at least rails and one jump in a day. i somewhat work park crew at my home mtn and all my friends do as well. once we have enough snow, we shape our park one day, and let it set the next. they could of easily had the park open for the past 2 days of the session but they just didnt no excuse there there really isnt. the least they could of done is set up some more rail features. all i can say is thank the lord milbury and his group made taht hip
 
it starts tomorrow. they will probably have a sick park because they will have had plenty of time to build it, and lots of snow.
 
when u are at camp u dont just ski, its and experience and LOOOTS of fun, i'm going to quiksilvercamp here in norway 13 days from now , been there the last 2 years and its so mutch fun. like charley ager was one of the coaches. and is this year to and i caant wait.. last year we had one day there the park hadddent been shaped because heavy fog, but the park designers buildt a jump down at the bottom, probably not more than 4m gap from jump to landing, but the all the campers were sessioning it all day and we had sooo mutch fun.
 
That is a great way to look at it. Windell's (or any ski camp for that matter) is not just about skiing, I was planning to go to this session, and I admit, I would have been so angry for dropping a lot of money for about two days of skiing. Sure it sucked not being able to ski for a week, but you have to realize that it is about the overall experience. Another tip for anyone who is planning to attend another ski camp next year, just go to South America or New Zealand. They don't have all of the big name coaches and they cost a little more money, but the whole traveling experience is worth it. (Pepperell "Pep" Fujas is coaching at SASS this year).
 
yea, I really admire your positive attitude too.

they should have done something for you guys money wise because you didn't get AT ALL what you were promised.
and i am going to windells later in the summer, and i would be sooo mad if anything like this happened considering the amount of money it's going to cost me.

and also, i have heard a lot of shit about windell's lately, i really hope the camp is good and that I didnt make a bad decision. the terrain and coaches look sick, but lets hope the hypocrisy of it all doesn't kill it
 
no your right. i was up there today getting some skis because delta left mine in charlotte. the parks are pretty much at the same height
 
I'm goin sesh 2, and I'll admit, with all the shit i've been hearing about windells lately I was starting to get a bit nervous. but this is a relief knowing that the park is gonna be up
 
I only saw it from afar today but it looked really nice. pipe at the top then on your right is all the rail setups and on your left is a prettty sick jump line
 
how long do you think thatll be up? are they keepin that all summer or are they building a new park higher up?
 
alot of you guys really have no idea whats been going on here at all. Session 1 was dope..we cant help it if it pours rain and none of us can go skiing..thats really not our fault (any sporting event anywhere gets called off for rain sometimes.) Also..the public park was so sick last week..there was a perfect 4 pack of good jumps, and plenty of fun rails and boxes. All the kids who were here still had a sweet time on what was setup. The reason the private park never opened was because everytime they rebuilt it, it got dumped on with snow. There isnt much point bringing all the campers up to the lane when all the jumps and rails are buried. For all the kids saying how much this must have sucked are really just uninformed..all the campers had a sick time and everybody made due with what we had. Nobody got ripped off, and there really is no need for hate. Also for those interested, the park IS open now and its amazing.
 
I'm not a fan of ski camps (just a horrendous amount of money for the span) and windells, but shit, when timerline/hood in general gets adverse weather, it can be pretty damn nasty up there, especially high up on Palmer, where tons of precipitation and white out conditions are pretty much unavoidable during any storm. The system during that session was a storm , albeit not that strong, but still a storm. It's no fun at all in those conditions. Cascade volcanoes are just like weather intensifiers. On Rainier (not Hood, but whatever) during the same time as session 1 there were like 6+ foot snowdrifts and some guy died just casually (on the Muir snowfield), so when it gets bad, it can get real bad. Doesn't take much to make Timberline unskiable due to its exposure and elevation. PNW weather in the early summer can easily be akin to that of late winter/early spring pretty regularly.
