Who will host the 2022 Olympics?

Rooting for Kazakhstan. They need the boost way more than China, the mountains look closer and way bigger, and you can actually breathe there...

why can't a european city just host it? It seems like they could get enough support but apparently not..

Beijing? Fuck, seriously? The climate is all wrong, even worse than Sochi. If it's cold enough there won't be much snow fall, the winters are meant to be really dry

It'll be a quick Olympic turnaround after 2008 if they win

SLC tried for it, but got denied. All infrastructure already in place from the 2002 ones.

The olympics, summer or winter, is a 100% way to loose a ton of money these days. Im surprised countries even want it.

Completely disagree!

The only reason countries lose money is because they are forced to invest massive amounts of capital into new venues instead of simply upgrading and renovating facilities that are already in place. By doing this, countries could change their investments from $20-$30 billion into something more than manageable.

The IOC needs to change how they look at their selection criteria. Russia basically sank everyone with their $ 50billion+ price tag on the Sochi games. Look at Sochi now nothing but a ghost town and likely to remain that way. All so Putin could shake his dick at the world.

I hope no one takes it, and the IOC is forced to change there ways.

Let Mogadishu and Chernobyl bid, and let them be the only ones left. That'll make them change right?

This is why I fucking hate the idea that Russia and Qatar are getting the world cup next.

England and the USA would be so much more primed for either event. Infrastructure already in place. I get the idea of having it in a new place and all, but clearly if you have to build all new venues and invest a significant portion of the GDP into a singular event, shit's going to be beyond stupid.

Just look at Ukraine now. 2 years ago they were cohosting Euro 2012. Now they're shelling one of the stadiums they built in Donetsk.

I say 'they' build an olympic city that con host both summer and winter games. Probably somewhere in Europe Germany maybe? Just use the same site every year. That would mean 'we' would all have to get along though. So that's probably not an option.

Hopefully everyone bails and they do bids again. CO and UT both want olympics so bad.

I'd really love it if both Kazakhstan and China withdrew because then the IOC might get the hint that a majority of the people who have a say in where the Olympics are held are not satisfied with their agenda.

The IOC is one of the most corrupt, self absorbed, arrogant and wealthy organisations in the world. It's amazing how our global society lets them almost bankrupt entire countries every second year and everyone is happy to think it's a great thing.

I think the Olympics can be a brilliant and unifying social tool on a global scale - especially with so much conflict at the moment - but damn, someone needs to send these guys a message that their business model and agenda is just so so wrong.

You forgot the point out that countries have been happy to bankrupt themselves over the Olympics. No one holds a gun to someone's head and says "host the Olympics"

Uh def. China cause no way Kazakhstan can front near enough bribe money to get it moved there.

You sure about that? Their president named himself PRESIDENT FOR LIFE...

Then with a shitload of oil and gas money built a city from scratch in the middle of nowhere and named it the capitol.

LOOK AT HIS PRESIDENTIAL PALACE. Motherfucker made a bizarro whitehouse for himself.

bring it to australia!

Would be a huge waste of money building things like bobsled and ski jump. Also we dont have enough vert in the right places for an Olympic standard downhill, eg Thredbo top to bottom is short by about 30m I think and it's probably not steep enough either

You are completely correct - but as we're seeing, less and less countries want to host it, because it doesn't make sense.

By the way, here is the list of some of the demands the IOC has made to the host country of the 2022 olympics:

"1. The IOC hotel must be rated at either four or five stars (a higher rating than any other client group at the Olympics).

2. The IOC hotel must offer: "A full international hot breakfast buffet for up to two occupants for each room (included in the room rate), catering services for IOC events, and 24-hour room service.

3. The hotel must have a members lounge to be used exclusively by IOC members. If there is no members lounge, the hotel has to install one at its own cost.

4. Doves must be released after the parade of athletes but before the head of the Olympic organizing committee speaks at the Opening Ceremony.

5. Signs around the city telling people where to go should be in sans-serif font and "be conceived as part of the Look."

6. "100% security screening of passengers and their baggage is required prior to entry into the IOC Hotel." This is not a requirement at other hotels.

7. The venues must be designed such that IOC members and guests are "segregated from press and broadcast" personnel.

8. Every IOC member gets a plus-one at the Opening Ceremony.

9. IOC members must be greeted by "smiling, positive, and welcoming staff" at the airport.

10. Starting two weeks before the Olympics, no street vendors are allowed.

11. IOC meeting rooms must be air-conditioned to 20 degrees Celsius (68 degrees Fahrenheit).

12. "The IOC Hotel must make available at no extra cost, existing sport facilities such as fitness facilities, swimming pool and sauna facilities to all IOC Hotel guests and IOC staff members."

13. Private cars must be provided to select IOC members at the expense of the Olympic organizing committee.

14. Volunteer drivers for IOC members must speak fluent English or French and be available to work up to 10 hours a day for six days a week."

The fact that the IOC is one of the least transparent organizations on the planet is also a massive joke. I used to love the olympics, but the more I read about the people running it the more pissed off I get /ragequit
