Who will be the next Seth Morrison?

I would go with Flahr or Hjorleifson. though they still will not have the same style/image as seth. no one will though, it wwas a combination of his own style, the attitude of skiing at the time, and the perception of extreme sports at the time.

as for skiing like hugo, theres a certain feller named Mathieu Miller in whistler. you wont ever hear of him, and you usually wont see him. skis with hugo daily and he fucking rips.

when you guys talk about skiing inbounds and out of bounds, you discredit inbounds way too much. look at a place like whistler. Half of the inbounds terrain still has avalance risks, so you obviously have to deal with that. but the most impressive thing is a week after a dump, when the snow is gone, chopped, mogully, icey, and riddle with traverse lines these guys are shredding just as hard. While you can obviously find gnarlier lines elsewhere, some shit i have seen hugo and other guys ski in these conditions is way more impressive than a fair bit of stuff in AK.

hell i even talked to seth on the lift one day. he was saying its so stupid that guys need burly skis like BSquads to go and charge gnarly lines in the shittiest conditions. like they are reckless and trying to prove themselves. Interesting, because i myself find it hard to believe he finds hugo and the sorts reckless or out to prove a point. but it just goes to show that that type of skiing cant be underappreciated. However, i'm sure seth could ski it, he just gets way too much heli time to bother with bad conditions

Holy shit.

This is the first time in almost 6 months I've posted anything due to the flambouyant ignorance that runs rampant around here..

..and this is only to say. There ARE intelligent, articulate people who post on this site. Props to you for being the light at the end of the tunnel.

That's like saying who will be the next Michael Jordan, or who will be the next Wayne Gretzky, the answer is NOBODY. That's why he's the fucking badass King of big mtn.

Big mountain comps are gnarley ... some of the most underrated skiers out there do these comps and win and still dont get the props they deserve...... What people are trying to ask when they say " who will be the next seth " they are talking about who will be the next huge icon in skiing like plake before him, like John Eves before him (james bond ski stunt guy, world champ moguls and acro and Areals such a sick skier) wang wong , all the way back to Stein Ericson people are discussing who will be the person in the not so distant future will take the torch if you will, some one whos an amazing skier and has some thing that makes him stand out, hair, (mowhawk 4 plake, punk image for seth, clean cutness of schmidt half of it is having the right hook ups and being in the right movies, but this person will have to have longevity as well its getting harder and harder in skiing the level of park, bc booter and an above all big mountain skiing the dangers involved at skiing at such high speeds on such gnar terrain and throwing a 100+ backflip with no hesitation after not skiing for 2 weeks , seth is unique in the fact that he handles this soo well, CR was the next to step up to there and he got cut down, (im talking the cross over of tricks, amazing lines, flow, style, and gnarness, and speed) the person that will stand out in the next 5 years will posess all of these skills + more. And from the crop of up and comers a few new skiers are going to emerge.

No one has any idea of the shit he skis. It's not only the big cliffs he does, it's also the insanely steep and sketchy lines. He skis everything up to the point where it gets so steep the snow cannot even hold onto the mountain. No one can replace him, no one.

yea i know nothing about a big mountain competition. they dont jump off of cliffs onto hardpack...they dont all jump off the same shit....they dont occasionally do a trick....and the judges deffenately dont have a pre determined line that scores the highest points.

any skiing competition is just like figure skating.

unfortunately there arent many more powder 8 comps they are easier on the knees.

no one wiill ever be as good as seth at throwing fronts and gainers of those 70 foot cliffs and stompin them in the POW a believe

im going with tanner hall he's still only 24 and been doing back-country for the last year or two and he mat step to big mountain. we all know he's nice as helll for tricks so if anyone can step to that then i think it will be him.

Well technically he would have to have a child and name it Seth, but talent wise there are a lot of really good skiers each offering a unique style to big mountain skiing, no on can replace anyone because everyone skis differently.

This thread has thrown up some intelligent discussion don't get me wrong, but I find it hard to believe some of the people that have and haven't been suggested here...

1st up- established rippers:

It's unlikely any of these guys will have the chance to revolutionize big mtn skiing because they are established already but HOW THE FUCK HAS NOBODY MENTIONED SAGE?? Have you all been leaving the room to jerk off when his seggy comes on? Last few years he has absolutely slaughtered alaska, particularly in lost and found- throwing smooth as fuck 3's both ways on 50 degree spines?? Come the fuck on people- time to engage brains here... Now, Ian Macintosh won't be the next Seth because he doesn't seem to throw flips etc. but he will be the next Hugo- kid skis AK spines faster and more direct than anyone and some of his double stager recently have boggled the mind, not to mention the couloirs in Anomaly. Finally, Hoji the the skier whose style most resembles seth but I think he just needs to start throwing tricks off the REALLY big hits rather than just the 'big' ones. He ain't far off though.

2nd- Young guns:

Um... KYE???? how on earth has only one person suggested Kye? Some of his hits in lost and found were vast, his cork 3 was ridiculous and I actually thought I was watching Seth when he threw that backie. Kid's only like 18 and already he's showing signs. I think also the Petits might get there too one day- Sean's performance in the Red Bull Cold Rush was outstanding.

3rd up-FWT athletes: Cody Townsend is I think the stand-out young gun on tour and don't discount Henrik Windstedt who has won it on his rookie year. The frenchies like Aurelien Ducroz and Adrien Coirier rip also but they tend to focus on competing which will never get them the coverage to blow up like seth. Also, I believe Kaj Zackrisson is filming with MSP this year and that has the potential to blow minds more than any other segment this year i think. Kaj has dominated the tour for a few years now and I'm not sure why he got no points for his BMP win

To conclude-

SAGE

HOJI

KYE

PETITS

CODY T?

and possibly Dana- from what i've seen his helmet cam footy this year looks dope,

^^ Haha chill bro. THis thread is over a year old before Kye was realy getting noticeed for big mountain. Also sage was mentioned several times on the first page.

My guesses:
- Taylor Felton
- Enak Gavaggio

Seth is not only about charging big mountain but hucking flips off huge cliffs, something both of these two were able to do with much style in Enjoy. I look forwad to there videos in the future.

you cannot compare ian, hugo, or eric for that matter to seth. hugo skis lines super fast, stomping every single air in his way down the mountain, and ian is basically the same. eric skis lines super fast and tech. seths lines are honestly skiable by just about any filmed big mountain skiers worth their salt, but he incorporates huge hucks, backflips and frontflips into his lines with super smooth landings that most skiers lack the stones to hit.

nobody can replace his flips off of the most gnarly cliffs. that frontflip in anomaly, and the attempted one in lost and found were mind blowing

yes, there is. ian mcintosh.

There are also local rippers, shredding lines without pow. Throwing backs and lawndarts onto crud. It's not as aesthetically cool as watching a huge backie into 2 foot powder but it's fuckin intense when you're there watching them do it saying AOZJAFWJFAZOMG WTF HOW DID HE NOT JUST DIE.

on the topic of his huge flips, that double front in believe off the 100+ foot cliff just fuck blew my mind, that is certifiably insane

To everyone who said ian, again he is a completely different kind of skier. He charges hard as hell, but he does not throw tricks off huge cliffs. All his cliffs are stompable(not by many), while seths are so big you could collapse your lungs trying to stomp the cliffs he hits. And pretty much evey line I've seen ian ski has required better tech than what seths lines require. Hoji is somewhat like seth, with his flips, but they're still nowhere near as big as seths, and hes a way more tech skier.

ian and hoji are very technically oriented skiers, possibly hoji seeing as how he is one of or the best in many regards of the (not including harrison) big mountain skiers today

between kye's pillow slaying at retallack for Tanner's new movie and his big mountain slaying at north cascades heli skiing for TGR's new movie.........unbelievers will be made into believers

except that is only 30ft and he exploded. not that he has not done more impressive stuff.

partially this is just because I hate that photo, the whole purpose of a sequence is to show the whole trick, and to make one and not show the landing because he exploded is lame.

Kiffor Berg, that guy fucking sends it. Been watching him ski on the US tour and World tour this year, just needs the exposure...

He kills it in the bc and in the park. HUUUUUUGE backs and fronts off of monstrous cliffs to hardpack. Gnarballs.
