no literally, who picks the music for msp, because i would really like to talk to them...

so i watched yearbook again last night for the first time since i saw it in the theater...and the music was fucking horrifying. the first time you don't really pay attention (or at least i dont) to the music, you just watch the skiing...that and we were drinking 40's...so i don't really remember the music. but last night is was so bad that i didn't make halfway through the segment before skipping to the next one...

hugo's segment has probably the worst song i've ever heard in my entire life...abma's song sucks ass too. his skiing is so nuts, i can't believe that i wouldn't want to watch the rest of it just because i coudln't stand the music.

now i'm a huge music snob, but i expect a helluva lot more from a movie with a million dollar budget (or so i've heard). seriously who in the fuck picks the music for msp? i think a lot of it has been bad, but this is fucking ridiculous.

and what posesses them to recycle songs like good riddance. For the third time.

^That's the REAL question. I mean, I understand a poor choice of tunes. That'll happen. But REUSING bad songs?!? That's just idiocy.

Although, to be honest, bad music works sometimes. See Abma's seg in RFA.

^JD two of hearts is a tight song, its not bad just cause its pop from the 80's...

i can deal with bad music if its original and fits the part but yeah there has been a lot of reusing songs this year.

i don't think the skiers always pick their songs....i'm pretty sure they have songs that they can choose from?...so they have a choice of a bad song or a worse song

Amen, MSP's soundtracks always lick nuts. Every once in a while, they will put a gem in there, that flows with the segment (i.e. 'Dramamine' for Seth's seg in Focused, 'Ruffneg Man' for CR's in focused, and even 'tonite' for Rainville's seg in Yearbook) but by and large, the musical selections for their movies are so, so very lame. They always put that crappy hard rock, Godsmack-style music in their movies. I guarantee they don't let the riders choose the music for their segment. I find it very hard to believe that Tanner would choose some mediocre rap song from 1999 (Wanna be a baller) especially when he listens to tons of cool rap/hip-hop/dancehall. I wish they would consult somebody with real, progressive, diverse taste in music before they taint anybody else's sick footage with audible diarreah.

i though abma's song was sick.. and the intro.. sick song.. and the rest was pretty dope... good sountrack for sure. and tanner rainville's song was initially 'this way' by dialated peoples and that was super off the hook.

yeah abmas song ruled, i thought it was good music

The song in the trailer is the shit. Deadsy-Tom Sawyer, the original is by Rush. Btw, Rush (Canadian) have kicking ass for many years. If you have any concept of good music you'll go experience it. I didn't like much of the music aside from that song and I seriously disagree with recycling tunes. Theres a lot of music out there--no good reason to recycle, considering everyone is always talking about 'progression.' Progress the fucking music too, for christs sake!

JD, abma's song in RFA was awesome. but i agree that they shouldnt re-use songs from other movies. and Crichton's seg in RFA was one of the best ive seen, and the music went perfect with it

Steele Spence's segment in Ready Aim Fire was meticulously done. Not the biggest AFI fan but that song is fuckin cool and it was perfect. Too bad Joel is toast. Guy was good.

no really, i want to know who picks the music.

Ok guys... I'm just saying though, I don't think I'll be listening to Two Of Hearts outside of that movie. Might just be me.

snake plisket, he's the one that has the most say in what songs are selected. i checked on a site and his email address is splisket@mspfilms.com

yea JD. that song is not amazing, but its one of those pop songs that goes well w/videos, but is by no means a good song, its just fun to listen too.

ill be listening to two of hearts riding down the highway with 20 cop cars behind me and nothing but open road between me and mexico

Hey that movie had easily the worst soundtrack of any ski or snowboard movie I've ever seen. It takes a good soundtrack for me to get into a movie and Yearbook definetly didn't have it. Focused had a pretty good one, I like the more mellow stuff like Modest Mouse and Theivery Corporation. I think the only decent songs in Yearbook were Steele's, Rory's, and maybe Dav's but I use the term decent loosly. I hope they try a little harder next year cause Yearbook's soundtrack was just aweful.

Oh yeah no, the skiers don't pick there songs. Do you really think those guys have that bad of taste in music, that's just insulting.

D-loc's picture looks like a monkey smoking that cig. If you had a mug like that would you really want everyone to see it.

Yearbook has the worst, most unoriginal soundtrack EVER put in a ski movie. And Two of Hearts is a SICK song that I still listen to all the time, so fukc yu JD MAy. Besides, we'd all bang Stacy Q

Bahahaha... or, you could call it the 'elitist snob' cult. Anyways, my family already owns a country club, so no thanks.

here is just one of the reasons why msp pisses me off. they are so inconsistant with their song choices!

on one hand, they will pick one or two songs that synchronize perfectly with the segment, like cr's in SM2, tanners in SM3, or seth's in focused. basically you can guarantee one of those per movie.

but for the rest of the soundtrack they will choose motorhead redneck music that is just downright awful, or steal songs from previous poorboyz movies! off the top of my head, they did that in SM3 with swollen members, and again in yearbook with good riddance. the funny thing is, the songs they stole were also used in the wrong way... the swollen song that tanner had in propaganda was used by wendy fisher the nest year in SM3, and the good riddance song crichton had in rfa was used for ski base-ing with mckonkey. it is just unacceptable.

you'd think somebody inside msp would watch poorboyz movies and watch out for this kind of thing...

well heres the thing, what most people don't understand about music is that you may not like the music but you have to respect and understand the ability of the artist as well as the importance of their music (influence, genre, etc).

i'll use the analogy of skiers: to be honest i don't actually like pollards style that much (yes call me a fag all you want), but it would be retarded of me to not respect his ability, not because lots of people praise him, but because i'm not retarded and i can see how progressively influential he is. the same thing goes for music: you might hate bands like motorhead (sorry lanks), bob dylan, and new york dolls but you count doubt their credibility and importance...not to mention their musical ability.

my point is, we aren't all going to agree on what sounds good, but they could at least put good musicians in their films, i mean other films do it, so why is it so hard for msp? the music in most of msp's shit, its just really really bad music...just complete shit, trash that you would pull out of the 99 cent bin at a used record store.

god i know people have complained before, but maybe one of you msp people is reading this and maybe you'll take note...i may not be an authority, but at least consider it...go to a good record store and ask what the staff thinks, chances are they'll say the same thing.

its not as if i hate 'motorhead' music. from time to time i could be accused of listening to it myself. its just that they use their music, in this case 'motorhead' music, sooo inappropriatly, whether it be used for the wrong rider, or with the wrong editing. this leads to an overall terrible vibe, and just ruins segments. which is a shame, most skiers deserve much better.

The songs on Tanner Hall's part, Tanner Rainville's part and Rory Bushfield's part are dope. The coolest songs are on X and 1242 especially Peter Olenics part.

hmmm. i disagree, i thought x had quite the mediocre soundtrack as well. some songs were downright obnoxious to listen to, ie kristi, or henrik.

^yep. but still definetly not as bad as MSP's soundtrack. They used songs that PBP used and shit. Fuck its not that big of an industry you think they could be more creative.

in X Henrik's song just gives me the shits, i go crazy and have to mute it, most annoying song ever, bit for the most part it was just alright, Happy Dayz had a better soundtrack

See, there's three kinds of people: dicks, pussies, and assholes. Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just want to fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes, Chuck. And all the assholes want us to shit all over everything! So, pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes, Chuck. And if they didn't fuck the assholes, you know what you'd get? You'd get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!

I don't know about MSP, but Poorboyz utilizes various sources for thier music selection. Record companies send promos, they have a music coodinator, rider suggestions, editor's picks, etc.

steele had picked out his own song for yearbook. a song by atmosphere and msp changed it on him at the last minute - so he didn't even know what they had chosen till he saw the film.

did you listen to steele's song in high five? so cool. it came from a old vinyl album his mom found at a garage sale. the album is called 'the hustlers in snow country' - an old 70's group from aspen. very creative.

I swear to god, if there is one more movie next year with a fucking Swollen Members song in it, someone will die.

i would guess the reason they use alot of old songs (ie wanna be a baller) has alot to do with royalties. music is fucking expensive.

also: i HIGHLY doubt they changed CRs song at the last minute. do you have any idea how much editing time goes into making tricks line up to songs?

yeah theyre music almost always suck, think the best soundtrack of all times are the high five`s.

i would be willing to bet that MSP spends more time than other companies editing. PBP and MSP are the only two companies that have ever remotely decent film editing. PBP has some weak ass editing movies too... 1242 proved that they can throw togather a good movie though. Thankfully oakley has super deep pockets and can pay people to spend alot of time in the studio.

I thought Focused had a great soundtrack, probably one of my favorites ever but then Yearbook came out and the musci is just aweful. I though they did a good job in Focused of finding good underground stuff. Seth's track was soo good and I love the Theivery Corp. track that is in the intro.
