Who cares if they are on MTV or with Sony now, they are the same band and make the same great music. If you don't like something just because it is becoming mainstream now, then you should re-evaluate what about music you like.
These guys profession is playing music, if you are toiling around in the indie/underground scene for ten years and you are now late twenties, you need to think about the future and how you are going to survive and make cash. If 'hardcore' fans feel alienated when they go mainstream, you're not really a fan. If you just plain don't like the new stuff that is another thing (even though the new album is sick). So now they start to make some dough from selling 30 seconds of a half-way decent song to a beer commercial (Isaac said he did it to get a lifetime supply of Miller) and for use in a minivan commercial. He also got hired by Sony to do some talent scouting (A&R) and got bands like the Shins and the Walkmen record contracts, so they are bring more great music to the masses. So if you made it through this diatribe pick music on what sounds good and your tastes, not if they are played on the radio or mtv or much music or have a major label deal.
