Who isn't riding twin tips these days...

At the local resort I go to, I happen to meet alot of people, and end up skiing with them. Lately, I've noticed that a pretty large number of people are riding twin tips, but a shockingly few have ever been in a park, at all.

It's usually a bad sign when something becomes popular as purely an image. It's pretty obvious that when you don't jump, and you can't ski backwards, you've bought twin tips for one reason.

Skiing is on an upswing, similar to what snowboarding did some years ago. Now, there's 75 year old women snowboarding, 13 year old valley girls snowboarding, and 45 year old bachelors snowboarding. I remember seeing a snowboarder and thinking 'Wow, that's new, that's badass..etc', and now I see more snowboarders than skiiers. It's got a bad case of overexposure.

What I'm really trying to say is that some kids buying twin tips to look cool is probably going to lead to your mom buying a pair because they're all the rage, just like in the case of snowboarding.

Whether or not a few posers is a good thing or a bad thing, though, is up for discussion.

 
Who fucking cares, thats great, they're putting money into our sport and aren't you a little bit glad they don't go in the park. the more money that goes into twin tip skis means the more money the companies will put into developing them and i'm sure armada's not complaining about the 'poser' support

i have very very old twins, the first pow airs made(i mean first model) and i barley ever ride them, i usually am in the park with my Cobras becayse they do me just fine, i probably wont get twins untill i can really throw big

yeah, i dont even have twin tips and im almost already throwing switch 3's. zero spins dont work thou on single tips, dont try em.

it almost sounds like you'r afraid that you'll be mistaken for someone who just bought because they're cool. as long as you're throwing shit down it really dosent matter what you ride on

 
exactly, i'm throwing down, and ripping the entire mountain on 5 yr old beginner carver skis. (Salomon verse 7's if anyone knows their skis)..... then i got my darksides, which are sort of twin. they rock.

haha, verse 7's those things are such noodles. i dont have twins and i ski switch all the time. really want to get some pistols so i can ski pow switch and throw 180s off cliffs.

ya i noticed that too, but you have to remember alot of twin tips ride alot more diff then alot of flat tail skis, so they might be riddin twins cuz they like how they ride. for instance look at the pocket rocket i see more old people on them than young....

 
Ya it really doesn't matter when people ride, and I hate if when some fag says someones not good enough for their twin tips. as long as there skiing its kewl and who cares what people are riding on as long as they're not on snoler blades........... i hate those things

 
Yeah, one of my dad's friends (about 50 years old)bought a pair of Rossignol scrachesand he does not by any means hit the park..he wanted fat skis to ski the powder...so people may buy twins for different reasons

people use twins because many are cheaper than other 'carving' skis and they rip all mountain. Twins are some of the best midfats out there right now

before i got some twin tips i was riding some home made twins......i put the ends of an old rossi race ski and bent it under a door....they working suprisingly well...till they broke

more people are riding twins cause more twins re being made. many ski companies are realizing that people are starting to desire a ski that doesn't limit them. take my roomate for example. he is a sick big mtn skier. he hucks 80 footers like they are going out of style. he can't really spinn off of cliffs, but he is the best 20 year old skier at snowbird and competes on the ifsa tour. till last year he never skied switch, now his super nobises have a small flaired up tail so he is progressing his rideing and learing to ski switch. had twins never come out then he would still be going forward and wouldn't ever be thinking about skiing or landing switch.

it is just called progression. ski companies don't want to get left behind.

just cause there not in hte park doesnt mean they dont go there. i spend whole days sometimes out of the park. and who cares who has twins, they give more money to the industries which is good.

I think people who don't ride twin tips but still ride rails etc... because they don't have the money to buy twin tips are pretty dedicated and I respect them. As for kids with twin tips who can't do shit and don't ride park so much, I write them off as rich. But what do you expect in an expensive port like ours.

riding switch w/ non twins isn't too bad cuz i have salomon 720s and i do it all the time. it's just goin off jumps and stuff switch is a disaster. rails aren't that bad either. someday i'll get twin tips...

720s are twin tips. pretty much the junior model of 1080's) there is this kid at my hill who is the most dedicated skier i know. he was skiing these oldschool piece of shit skis and trying the step down rail time after time. after like his millionth time he broke one of them. So whats he do? hikes it again. eventually he got some fujatives and he is still trying new shit. i respect that kid

There are so many posers that think they r so cool with the twin tips when they cant even do a spread eagle cause there to scared to actually get air

 
but thats not the point, let them be who they are, its not going to effect you or your skiing ability or the quality of your ski's.
