I'm really glad you guys liked my animations and took the time to post the positive feedback.

Unfortunately, there is no longer any reason to get worked up about MOTM. There are no more mini articles or bios about the member and the member no longer gets anything from Evo or any other ski brand.

MOTM is now just an advert for Evo. I'm actually kind of pissed that something that I used to love about this site has turned into a way to advertise. Evo doesn't "present" the member of the month, they just use him or her to get more traffic on their site.

Member's used to have a motive to get MOTM. I hope that day returns.

 
I'll back the NS crew who definitely made it worth it for me. Landed MOTM and the Free Shit Friday 2.0 draw together and got the healthiest stack of stickers I've ever seen, an NS Dino T, and two ski flicks. I was also loving the opportunity to abuse the plaque at the side. You can change the text as often as you want, and your icon. Think of it as a cool mini billboard. I definitely noticed a spike in profile views likely due to the plaque as well.

Even though MOTM doesn't get a quick article and the pretty crazy hookups Evo used to provide it's still cool to land. The karma system can still be wack though and that's what makes it an odd feature of the site.
 
I'm turning 50 this month. MOM would be a nice Bday present. Plus I need some traffic on my photo page.
 
To be perfectly honest with you guys, I made the final call out of the top 20 members that the algorithm spit out, instead of going with the #1.

With that being said, I made a ton of tweaks to the system today with the hopes that next month the #1 is legit.

Hope that makes sense / you guys understand my reasoning!
 
Good. You'd hate to make the same mistake that you made this month again next month. That would be embarrassing.
 
It was all just automated in the past, so technically it wasn't my mistake to make.

But yes, since we're going to be bringing back rewards, I will be making the final call every month to ensure the member is a great part of the community.
 
Yeah as Jason said, there was some flaws in the calculations. Karma is a pretty solid system, but when its only one person sometimes when we make small tweaks and it re-calculates it chooses the wrong person.

Anyway, now there is a manual part to the process on top of the automated system. When we really perfect Karma it'll go back to being automated, but for now this is the best way to do it.

And you're right, I didn't deserve it at all. I have no idea what I did to get it.
 
suggestion for member of the month: based off original content that that user has created. The new member of the month is there since he uploaded a whole bunch of Olympic runs, absolutely nothing he can take credit for in those.

This takes away from members who actual went out and put effort into making a bunch of awesome edits or photos etc rather than something that can be done in a few clicks.
