14380776:SmokedGouda said:On a more historical approach to this, candide is only the greatest of the last 20 years. If we go way back, it begins with Jim McConkey(Shane’s dad) who pioneered heli skiing in BC along with operating the ski school at Whistler. He was regarded as one of the greats during the 60s. Then in the 80s, you could say Glen Plake and Scott Schmidt were taking the freeriding scene to a whole new level(the 70s were a weird period in skiing that I don’t know much other than the rise of hotdogging). Then when the 90s came along, those like Mike Douglas and members of the New Canadian Air Force helped to further the sport. Mike Douglas for one, pioneered the D spin. Other accolades included JP Auclair and none other than Shane McConkey who later in his career really embraced ski BASE jumping. Now as the 2000s came along, a new and more extreme era of skiing also appeared on the scene as those from the near past influenced an entirely new era of skiing. Another big influence were the boarders in the 90s and trying to implement their tricks into skiing and we all probably know quite a bit about the 2000s and beyond in terms of skiing.
im obviously missing people in here but these are some of the names that came to my mind. One thing that sets the greats and greatest apart in my mind nowadays(given some circumstances) is being able to stomp huge airs and with tricks involved. One thing in which Candide associated himself with the most. With the creation of social media however, skiing has gone so many places in recent years, most don’t realize.

The 5 that he does on the monster hip is like honestly one of the craziest things ever done. So effing big

14380989:hank.ski said:My take, depending on the metric:
-Pure skill: Markus Eder probably, although Candide is def top 5
-Impact: Tie between McConkey and Candide
Longevity: Candide, but Mark Abma is a valid contender.
Project Success: Candide hands down
So yeah I guess it really is Andri Ragettli huh damn

Candide on the other hand is the real GOAT. This is cause he is just absolutely cracked at park and big mountain and freestyle so why don’t you and your quadruple xl hoodie go shove a look pivot heel piece dildo up your asshole. Good day to you asswipe.

I don't think you can argue he isn't after looking at his resume. He's probably going to be the only person ever to win gold in every x games discipline and the FWT
14381057:corona said:Nah that's just the perspective. Charles Gagnier was the first I think.

JP Auclair should absolutely be considered for GOAT
- pioneer of the sport, first person ever to be seen with a pair twin tips in public
- one of the first street skiers in the early 2000s
- slayed gnarly big mountain in PBP movies in the late 2000s
- RETURNED to street skiing in the early 2010s (mad respect there) and released one of the most iconic street parts of all time
Didn't win a crazy amount of medals or awards but JP was there from the beginning as absolutely crushed it in the streets, BC booters, big mountain, etc. Go watch his revolver segment. It has all types of newschool skiing and he crushes it in in all of them.
