Who influenced the sport of freestyle more Candide Thovex, Tanner Hall, or Jon Olsson

Candide became more of a household name than the other two, thus bringing more attention to freeskiing from the outside world, making it more popular and bigger world wide. Within the sport, Tanner and Jon probably did just as much. They had bigger personalities and are maybe more inspiring to the freestyle demographic.

for me it's gotta be candide just because of how much awareness he brought to freeskiing. "one of those days" might be the most frequently reposted ski video of all time. i have heard more non-skiers talking about candide than the other two combined.
as far as influence on just the ski community i would say it's a close race between candide and thall, maybe i would give the edge to tanner just because he has been riling up the crusty dad skiers for a couple decades now

Y'all sleeping on jon. He's the guy that really got the dub cork train going with dub flat 9s and switch dub 10s that actually looked good. Other people may have done dubs earlier but he's the guy that really made them mainstream. Plus JOI and JOSS were some of the most progressive events in skiing for like 5 years in a row.
Maybe not more influence than tanner and candide but he belongs on the list.

Unpopular opinion, I'm looking for more understanding. I don't understand the hype on Tanner. Yes he has been around since the first generation of park rat skiers. Yes he has innovated style and tricks that were heavily influenced by snowboarding. I get it, he smokes pot and is loose.
He never really dominated comp skiing. His big mountain skiing is not that impressive even when compared to other pros of the same age.
He has done more than I will probably ever do. His segments are entertaining and get me hyped for skiing every time I watch them from 10 years old to now. Still tho I do not understand why people want to put him in the same category of 'Fathers of Freeskiing' that Candide, Mike Douglas, Shane, and others have so rightfully earned.

candide is a goat, makes some of the most jaw dropping clips to surface the internet and any freestyle skier dreams about having the same effortless style from park to big mountain to the great wall.
Tanner is a legend for showing it was possible to film top of the line segments as well as compete at such a high level for so many years and progress the sport.
Jon didn’t have crazy edits and wasn’t an amazing comp skier, but between starting the double train and hosting JOI and JOSS, he was able to negotiate contracts differently and get into the business side of freestyle skiing and start coming out with new companies, douchebags etc... and prove it’s possible to make a full living out of the sport wayyy past your prime.

And he's one of only 2 people to ever hit Chad's switch, and the only one to switch 9 it. Dude is in his mid 30s and putting out the most well rounded segments with heavy urban, park, pow and big mountain shots that hold up against anyone.

Thall's style back in the early MSP "ski movies" was unreal. He definitely deserves a nod for heart and longevity, but with age the grace and style is diminishing.
Candide was a show stopper from the beginning. I remember I would get so hyped for Hall's parts and then you watched Candide segment from Mammoth super park drop and it was on another level. I would say Hall has been more influential in the long run throughout his career while Candide has gained almost a mythical GOAT status.
They also went about their careers in very different ways. Hall putting out tons of content wearing his heart on his sleeve, with Candide being very calculated and only sharing morsels (knowing we all itch for more).

All three had their own impact but Mike Douglas is the one you should be thanking.
I think it depends on popular culture vs. ski culture. Sub in Shane for Jon though, I wouldn't put him in the same category as Candide or THALL.
That said, I'm going to go with Tanner. While Candide has a lasting legacy, Tanner is the one who I've been more familiar with growing up. He brought pipe skiing into the spotlight, stills kills it, and Armada is his legacy, he's so fucking core.

Bro.....he's a co-founder of Armada, has countless groundbreaking segments, dominated X games, took the most famous slam in skiing, has some of the most memorable quotes, and despite his abrasive personality/history is STILL almost unanimously loved throughout the industry.
I guarantee you'll never have the impact he had on ANYTHING.

Everybody wanted to emulate his style at the time... first real impact out of the Swedish scene. Had the ender in Session 1242 (even if Pep's part stood the test of time.) And definitely unlocked the dubs. Kangaroo flip sequence two-page J-Lindeberg ad anyone?

While Candide is the one whose skiing I'm most inspired by, he's kind of an invisible personality and for a good decade there he was basically a ghost, blessing us with an epic edit every couple years then disappearing again. Like he has this total mystic godly status that's going to stand the test of time, but he hasn't really seemed "present" in skiing since his crash on Big Bertha like 13 years ago.
Maybe that's different in the European scene though?
Tanner has been a vocal presence in skiing for almost 20 years, and somehow he is still pushing himself to do things that are new to him. While I haven't been a huge fan of him or his skiing personally in the last 10 or so of those years, I think he's had a bigger impact. From partaking in (both competing and filming) in every facet of the sport to yelling at kids on newschoolers through caps lock and drunken rants on film premiere stages, he's been a notable influence in freeskiing whether you like it or not.
Jon took the calculated approach (both to his skiing and branding himself), and while it probably didn't relate so much to the average NS kid it set the stage for the airtight comp style we know now and for skiers to take the spotlight through his JOI and JOSS events.

Anyway, The New Canadian Air Force was truly the crew that put the newschool movement on the map. Nothing compares to that magic. It was astonishing. JP, JF & Vinnie Dorion had incredible imaginations.
