Who here is hardcore?

First off I'd like to say; I got you good motherfuckers!

I'm talking about music here. Who here on NS is in the hardcore music scene? Weather it be metalcore, post-hardcore, melodic hardcore, punk hardcore, or any of the other genres of rock/metal/punk hardcore music. I personally enjoy listening to hardcore 24/7 on and off the mountain. What's your take and what type of bands are you into?

This is me, hating more, awaiting a lyric comparison.

okay newb, you asked for it. I'll start with a fairly simple comparison, Drake & Lil' Wayne's HYFR (YOLO) vs Suicide Silence's You Only Live Once (which came out almost a year earlier), it's an easy comparison because everyone is familiar with the term YOLO
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/drake/hyfrhellyafuckinright.html

VS.
http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/suicidesilence/youonlyliveonce.html

Of course everyone is going to have their own opinion, but honestly what lyrics do you find more inspirational and purposeful in your own life?

You can argue you don't like that metal style of the song but in the end the lyrics should be the most important thing about any song, it conveys a message to be heard by thousands, sometimes millions, of people. What do you find meaningful in Drake's song?

Go ahead give me any song and I personally guarantee I will find lyrics that are more meaningful from music in the hardcore scene.

While reading this I'm listening to this [VIDEO]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkw0aVvxikg[VIDEO] Gotta love scandinavian death and black metal bands.

Though I don't know if opeth goes under the "hardcore" genre as you wrote about, are there any other opeth fans here on ns?

Can't embed,

I'm not "hardcore" at all but lately this song has been on repeat only because of the last two minutes of the song. However the last two minutes are not hardcore.

give hardcore a chance; if this gets anymore hate I'll do a little lyric comparison for you all

yeah...its definitely not the lyrics that are turning me off.

The Amity Affliction is one of my favorite bands. Carrion is probably one of my favorite songs by them too. I really like Parkway Drive and Bring Me The Horizon(inb4 shit storm about them)

I'm not a huge fan of screaming but I do love the power and emotion behind it. I usually can really relate to the meanings behind the songs and I love how they pump me up like 95 percent of the time. Songs that have screaming along with normal singing in them are what I'm into. I'm not really a hardcore type of person. Like I don't listen to hardcore music to be "hardcore" but I just like the style of music! It's definitely my choice of music for skiing along with some alternative.

So you chose Drake to compare "meaningful" lyrics to? That's cheating.

Carrion is not by the amity affliction. It's by parkway drive. I meant to say RIP Bon. I fucking suck.

The fact that you mentioned suicide silence as your hard core band makes me know you don't listencil to real hard core. You're a pussy. Go listen to bane or so thing legit. Pussy. You're a pussy.

Op sounds like a n00b but I've gotten down to a bit of everything over the years. Would probably roll more toward the punk end preferably but some days I randomly just feel like getting down to different shit.

For the record; OP is not a n00b.

I stated suicide silence because that song was any easy comparison to mainstream music now a days.

And yes BMTH, ADTR, OM&M, etc... are considered hardcore.... it's call metal core/ pop core.

I've probably been to more shows and festivals in the past 6 months than most of you have in your lifetime.

My hardcore liking is vast to include:

Hundredth

Being As An Ocean

Beartooth

More Than Life

Bring Me The Horizon

Bury Tomorrow

Of Mice & Men

Chelsea Grin

Attila

The Color Morale

The Devil Wears Prada

First Blood

Letlive.

Emmure

The Greenery

I See Stars

Obey The Brave

Stick To Your Guns

Terror

Comeback Kid

Dream On, Dreamer

Underoath

Blessthefall

August Burns Red

Asking Alexandria

Counterparts

Parkway Drive

I could go on for days.....

but if anyone is familiar with the term hardcore; they would understand it can apply to every genre of music, but for the sake of this thread I'm talking about guitar driven music. Hardcore can include rap (eg. Wu Tang Clan, Jedi Mind Tricks) which I also throughly enjoy. I just absolutely hate 99% of the mainstream garbage people listen to these day.

Quit hating and get educated.

^ read above post; and I just went to a Bane concert this past Monday... so you sir can have an ice cold glass of shut the fuck up

As stated above, I dabble with some hardcore but what will never be cool is hardcore dancing. OP if you go to those concert and flail around like a twat, you are still a pussy.

I listened to those really shitty bands when I was in highschool 4 years ago. I thought they were hard core but they're a lot more pussy core. It's like listening to the Burton of hard core. It's post hard core so technically yea its hard core. But not what I was expecting. You pussy.

Also I didn't read that whole list. I apologize for my response there ^^ terror and styg is sick! If you haven't listened to structures I think you should check them out. They're right up your alley op. PS you're still a pussy because I have an image to uphold.

Why ya gotta hate dude? It doesn't matter how heavy or hardcore it is. If someone likes if then sweet. Post hardcore is awesome.

1. I apologized in my post right after this.

2. The title should've said post hard core instead. /argument. I'm out.

this is the exact mentality i hated about the hardcore scene. Everyone holds such a high head about everything, and the bands they listen to are so much better than whatever anyone else listens to.

Listen to the true OG's, they are blasting positivity, telling people to remember to appreciate things. Open your mind.

not really hardcore, has some hardcore influence i guess, but i guarantee this is the best song you will listen to today

After reading the term hardcore over and over again in this thread, it really makes it seem like nothing/no one in here is hard core. idk why

LOL "I've probably been to more shows and festivals in the past 6 months than most of you have in your lifetime."

I really don't care, I was just dicking around but as far as shows you don't want to go there. Seriously. I have spent absurd amounts of money, ran cars into the ground, hitchhiked, put myself in bad situations to travel the country seeing live music. I'm not trying to make this a dick measuring contest but I just though it was funny that you called me out on that.

I've easily been to 400+ shows over the years(Not including shitty bar bands and stuff like that). As far as festivals something like 50 seems pretty accurate. A few more if you count small stuff. At some of the big festivals with mixed genres I've tried to see some different styles of music and give everything a fair chance.

Music is subjective for the most part, you can like whatever you want, but lol at the thought that I've never been to any shows.

Pretty much obsessed with La Dispute. I really enjoy Basement, TIgers Jaw, Listener, and TSSF. Other than that, I'm not really a developed fan of hardcore.

Word I can go from listening to System of a down to chilling with some Beethoven's symphonies. My music range is so vast I could almost listen to anything as long as I like it. Most country I can't really stand but that's pretty much the only place I draw the line.

Growing up I listened to Slipknot, Blink 182, Greenday(a lot of the dookie album), Bloodhound gang, smashmouth, led zeppelin, pink floyd, ODB, Wu-tang, Eminem, Dre, Guns n' Roses, Etc.

What I often find amusing to listen to every now and then is The punk goes pop,crunk,90's songs.

Here are some playlists to check out:

Punk goes 90's Vol.2 (Look for Gangsta Paradise)

P
unk goes pop Vol.1,2,3,4,5(some from each)

Punk goes Crunk

Just an example on how some of the covers turn out.

I hear you. I miss my old ipod. Used to have a 160 gig with a little bit of everything on it. Was great for switching genres.

Also a nice mix of time periods.

Gotta mix things up sometimes. The only music I hate is the bad music pushed as a one time use kind of thing. "Omg it's my favorite song ever" until the next shit song comes out then they move on.

Smif N' Wessun to Jefferson Airplane to Bobby Womack to J Dilla to Matt Ward--- I love my music library for reasons such as this.
