Alright so I am coming up on my half way mark to my one year tour in Korea. My buddies and I just booked a 2 week trip to Thailand in May. One week in Bangkok and another week in Phuket. Has anyone on here ever been to either of these cities and had some awesome experiences? We have some things planned, but it never hurts to ask around and hear what others have done. Thanks for the help NS!!!!

inb4 any shitty Hangover 2 reference....

Also just to give back for clicking on my thread, and a little thanks for help here is a nice ass in some yoga pants...

PEACE OUT NS.

I've been to Thailand!

Go check out the Phi Phi Islands south of Phuket. They have amazing snorkeling and beaches to explore.

However, I went just before the 2004 tsunami and it could be completely different now.

If at all possible try and trek over the Cambodian border and visit Angkor Wat. This place is really amazing with absolutely massive Buddhist temples with little dudes in orange robes running all over the place.

It's a common misconception that all monks have good advice, however the guy I talked to was trying to get me to bring back some hookers from Bangkok.

Quick Tips for Bangkok:

Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds are your friend

Take "Tuk-Tuks" instead of Taxis (cheaper, faster, exhilarating)

Don't be afraid to bargain and haggle out prices. Those Thais are some tricky sons o' bitches and will try and overprice POS things because you're a tourist.

Watch your pockets. Be careful around commonplace areas in the city. Thai versions of Oliver Twist and Fagin still exist out there and they'll snatch whatever you've got.

Good luck my friend and have fun!

lots of good advice here. i have been to thailand since the tsunami and the phi phi islands still kick some fucking ass. definitely go there. some of the real small islands have these amazing crazy cave systems that lead into giant lagoons in the center. so sick

when i went there i stayed a week in bangkok and a week in phuket. i was like 15 and was with my parents so i dont have great advice for night life type stuff in bangkok but i can give you a little touristy advice for a couple things to see if you care at all. feel free to ignore it if youre not into that kind of thing

in bangkok i ended up spending most of my week traveling around seeing literally every single buddha statue my father could find. none of them were particularly memorable except the reclining buddha. that thing was nuts. its like the size of a small house and made of gold.

also the grand palace is worth a visit. that place was pretty cool

in phuket i was lucky enough to stay at the amanpuri with some family friends which was probably the most nuts experience of my life so far. most of the guests we met had clothing and jewlery worth more than my familys house. everyone was like the 1% of the 1%. it was like stepping into a different world

we were there for christmas and it was really the first time i really ever partied. i basically just drank mojitos all day and hung out on the beach or went and explored some islands or rode elephants and went to beach parties at night. it was a pretty good formula for a good time

bond island is kinda cool. might be worth a visit if you feel like it

thailand is a fun place man. its gonna be a great time. phuket is so sick. youll definitely come back with some crazy stories.

Ping Pong show is a must. Its much more then just a girl shooting ping pong balls out of her vajay, they do all sorts of things like baby turtles, live hamsters, 30 gold fish etc etc. Have fun and wrap it up ;)

there is currently a military coup. lots of political turmoil, i would consider going to somewhere else in the region say vietnam or cambodia. at the very least i would avoid bangkok..

I just got back about 3 days ago. luckily the coup didn't effect us till our last night. We were in Phuket watching a live muay thai fight and got out around 1130 or so at night. we take a tuk tuk (small taxi) to the main strip and it is completely dead! Everything is shut down and all the lights off. There were maybe 20 people on the street when any other night high hundreds, if not a thousand. We walk up to an Australian police officer who is talking to a bunch of other Aussies and said that the military is about an hour and a half north and making their way down south. Curfew is in full effect from 10pm-6am and the military is taking no shit from anyone if they're out on the street. So needless to say our last night was cut short and we just chilled in the room and went to bed because they even took over the TV stations.... Had no issues flying out or anything.

heading out on june 4th for 28 days. spending time in koh phangan, koh samui and then railay for a bit. stoked for a full moon party and to hang out at eden for a couple nights.

hoping the coup doesnt effect the trip too much, but tourism is their main industry so im sure they want to keep us foreigners happy. we'll see.

I haven't been, but a cousin of mine who travels europe/Asia is usually between Barcelona and Thailand, it sounds like tons of fun

I'd personally get away from Phuket (plenty of better areas in the Andaman imo), but it's better than not being in Thailand.

Not so much for op since time is an issue, but for others going to Thailand for longer stretches, I'd recommend looking in to Myanmar before it goes full tourist boom. It's quite awesome. Easy to get a visa and airasia has, on occasion, dirt cheap flights from Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Im headed to bangkok tomorrow!

Really though landed here last Monday, stayed overnight in bangkok and then flew to Krabi the next day. Now in Koh Samui, Bangkok tomorrow for about 2 days then back to US. Woke up our first day to martial law announcements and then the coup a few days later. We debated changing plans for Bangkok but are going to go through with it. Apparently this shit happens all the time here, were sticking to tourist things and not expecting any trouble.

Getting my pic taken with a tiger in a couple days, shit will be rad.

enjoy getting the "true bangkok experience" with a 10pm curfew. its a rad city, especially at night, but if you're looking for a more authentic, less touristy trip vietnam is where its at.

Will do, honeymooning means I don't care about the midnight ladyboy experience this time around. I'm good with being a tourist.

I've been to bangkok, karat/phimai, and koh chang. They're all super cool, although I liked it best up north in karat. When you go to bangkok, check out wood street. Tons of cool stuff and good street food.
