Who has the right away?

Who was wrong in this video? I think the more experienced guy was at fault because he tried to pass in a narrow area. But in all seriousness, that wide beginner carve across the entire run shit is annoying.

I had a similar experience but on a much wider slope. Trying to get to the park at my local mountain and I made sure to avoid a new skier. The last I saw the skier, they were at least 50 feet away from me. The next time I saw the skier, they cut right across me and I took a massive tumble ending up with a concussion. If I'm going straight and the path in front of me is clear is it my fault if someone cuts across the entire slope and manages to get right in front of me? Does person who cut me off have the right away since they technically got in front of me at the last moment?

The tiny crash was obviously not your fault and it was the gaper's fault, however one of the ski instructor's duties is to keep everybody safe and I'm sure he's just standing up for the gaper

right of way*

and the dude filming is in the wrong. he's the uphill skier and the other gapers have every right to make random ass shitty turns wherever they want. theyre not merging or anything, theyre just bad at turning and picking lines

you can tell the filmer is shitty too though by his turns, his arms, and the lines he takes. if he's soo much better than the gapers he somehow runs into, he should be taking a line that doesnt even make a collision possible, and after the first near miss he should have gotten on the high side of the rail and been outta there

case closed youre welcome

*right of way*

And the downhill skier always has right of way, except in very few situations. So the skier behind was at fault.

When all parties involved are gapers its just fate. Nobody is at fault, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

That guy bounced off like 3 people. What a narb

You sir are at fault. While he shouldn't be punching you, he is well within his right to convey his dismay that you knocked down 1 maybe 2 of his class.

Speaking of, you should probably join his class considering the poor catrack performance displayed on your snowblades.

1) Downhill skier ALWAYS has the right of way - really the only exception to this is when said downhill skier is stopped in a blind spot (i.e. landing of a jump)

2) No matter who is at fault, it's common courtesy to STOP when someone you come in contact with falls over to make sure everyone is ok.

3) Dude cut off 2 people BEFORE even making contact with anyone...he clearly wasn't skiing in control and was skiing above his ability level.

4) Skiing on a beginner trail means you need to ski defensively, especially if you are more advanced, this means skiing slower and making sure to keep tons of room between yourself and others. They don't know what they're doing, so stay out of their way.

esf instructors are generally dicks, hence the punch. but that doesnt take way from the fact that you appear to be a crappy skier who took somebody out and just skied off. downhill skier has right of way on the piste, parks are somewhat different but that doesnt matter.

Amen. I learned my lesson after my first concussion. I stay away from gapers and try my best to spot the ones in camo.

Holy shit are you a wizard cause that's not me in the video.

It's a pretty good representation of British punter skiers and a minority of the ESF instructors who both think they are the shit. Most of the ESF instructors I've met are actually really friendly, never had a problem with any of them.

Uphill skier definitely at fault, if he wanted to get round the group he should have gone wider, closer to the edge of the piste. Instructor over reacted when he should have just knocked the skier out.

The real question is, why did the skier have a camera. Second, why would he ski away from the ski patrol guy? Skier should have gotten out of his skis and confronted that fuck. Even if it was his fault he can't fucking punch him.

rule number 1: downhill skiers always have the right of way

rule number 2: snowbladers are always at fault

I think the answer here is pretty obvious OP.

Of course this is your fault, try turning next time!

I think the guy filming did a lot of things wrong. So many, in fact, that you lose track of how many errors he commits.

The beginners skiers were obviously following the instructors route down the left hand side, which the Filmer should have regarded and avoided. Instead he skied right down the middle, clipping / cutting into several guys (all minor amateur errors in addition to his initial major route choice errors). He then failed to stop and skied on like a bit of a renegade.

He should of first been watching and picked a route down the right hand side. Failing this he should have slowed, or even stopped to avoid colliding with any of them. It looks like hard snow, he could of injured one of them especially if they're not confident on their feet and prone to coming off balance. Finally he should have stopped and checked everyone was OK after he clear collided with someone from behind (being uphill).

If I had seen the clip without a description or title, I would have named it "Amateur skier cuts up several people trying to get home".

op you're definitely at fault, hopefully you learned from the punch. you can stop pretending it's not you in the video, we were all gapers once.

A little communication goes a long way in these situations. A simple "ON YOUR RIGHT!" can go a long ways

Filmer's fault

1. It wouldn't have been that hard to get through without hitting anyone

2. Right before he hits the first guy, the filmer still has plenty of room to the left to still avoid him. He didn't even try. This is probably because he sucks at skiing and is using ski blades.
