Who has progressed skiing the most ... ?

Yes a lot of various people have progressed the sport to where it is today.. but my question to you NS is WHO HAS PROGRESSED THE SPORT THE MOST?
Choose one or throw out a vote...

A. Tanner Hall (pipe and backcountry)
B. Simon Dumont (pipe and world record air)
C. Bobby Brown (switch dub misty 12 and 14)
D. Tom Wallisch (king of style)
E. Jon Olsson (first to throw doubles)
F. Charles Gagnier (octograb)
G. Your Vote

feel free to throw any others out...

be easyyy

Jon wasn't the first to do doubles, Mike Wilson was. Jon just made them popular by doing safer doubles.

And you're forgetting a lot of things on that list. How about Shane Mcconkey with ski base jumping? Seth Morisson fucking destroying BC and AK lines. The list goes on. On top of that you can't really pick a winner, not to sound cliche but the sport is being pushed in so many different directions right now, picking one winner would just be absurd.

imo skiing's progression is due to all of the pros adding something different to it and learning from each other and just doing what they love. i dont think you can measure the amount of progression was caused by a certain rider because im guessing most of the tricks that kept coming out were inspired by other people or other things. they all brought something different to the table because when you think about it, freeskiing is all about getting out there and getting creative. also, the sport's progression at one point in history is due to the progression from another point in history. for example, bobby brown and tj threw some sick shit the other night but that could have never happened without the likes of JP Auclair and such who really laid down the foundation of this sport. anyways, this post turned out to be alot longer than i intended it to be, if it doesnt make any sense, forgive me

and i'd like to add that Newschoolers.com should definately be considered when were talking about progression

So in another thread you hated on Duncan Adams for having a legit stylish pipe run which included a zero spin, and then here you name a skier who is all about steezy slow spins? Contradicting yourself just a little bit.

yes this.

but Im gonna have to say that Tanner changed the way each of us looks at rail and jump skiings style the most whether we know it or not.

I agree with your post.

Imo, Seth, JP, JF Cusson, Mike Douglas (forgive me if I forgot anyone) are really the guys who progressed the sport toward this level. They layed the foundation for all the pros right now to do the things that were done this weekend at Xgames. Tanner Hall showed everyone what was really possible with his sick performances starting in 2002, starting with slopestyle then moving though the diciplines destroying the competition until it really became more about self exploration. Also with him and JP starting Armada showed the type of skis which would be the future. Saloman might have first introduced the twin tip but Armada perfected them. Jon building the biggest, most amazing jumps helped make way for Bobby and TJs unreal performance. If you look back at the slopstyle courses Tanner Hall did, the jumps were alot smaller and there was many more of them.

Now everyone has taken the sport in so many different directions, from extreme urban, dub corks in the pipe, dub corks in slopstyle and extreme big air with better than Olympic gymnast style spins. I didnt know Shane was into ski base jumping, I thought Erik Roner was one of the first to do that.

oh and all the guys in the new canadian air force,

JP, JF Cusson, Vincent Dorion.

and the three Phils?

Julien Regnier?

id have to say jon hands down for making doubles so popular. every other trick in the x games was a double this year

Progressed the most? Hum...

Park and probably Tanner, I knew nothing about twin tip skiing and 99.9% of the people in the park were snowboarders. Tanner changed that, along with a lot of other guys like Mosley etc. But for me Tanner Hall was skiing, he was the first main stream super star of park and pipe. Tanner is the reason I started skiing.

There really are so many people you start thinking about but in my mind as far as style goes Pollard wins that.

CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE CANDIDE

people are idiots if they think anyone but Shane. he truly progressed skiing by opening up the possibilities for non-traditionally shaped, wider and incredible pow skis.

Am I missing something? Tom Wallish and the like have done some incredible stuff yes, but without the Canadian Air force dudes and Mike Douglas we wouldn't even know who wallish was. Doing a bunch of switch ups is minuscule in comparison to inventing freestyle skiing as we know it.

also, Shane and Pollard

cough mike wilson cough

he may not have progressed it a whole lot but he did give us the "wilson flip"

Top 3 in order : (progessing skiing skill wise and media wise)
1 Shane McConky - brought rocker to skiing, for proof see powder skiing today.2 Tanner Hall - bringing skiing all the way from the xgames to bigmtn events, seriously what kept me watching xgames was watching all the, Simon vs Tanner crap, and now hes getting exposure for these big mtn events, itll take televised skiing to another level soon.3 Tom Wallish - he brought style to skiing. Simple as that, and he basically lead the way to x games we see today from where Tanner left off.

anyone who says wallisch has been one of the biggest proggessers of skiing should lear their skiing history

ALL Wrong...

No Single person has progressed the sport more then the collective of super talented skiiers emergeing over the past 10-15 years and beyond...

Put it this way - Say Tom Wallisch was the ONLY skiier in the world who had any talent - nobody nipping at his heals.... nobody encouraging and pushing him...

Would skiing be where it is today.... not a chance.

Skiing's progression is purely a result of the progression of the Skiing community, it's popularity and the charisma of those involved in it - which includes you and me....

totally agree, but you have to admit that these few people really gave it a good push, then more get into it, and it keeps progressing on its own, then from here, a few more people stand out and give it another push. everyone has a select group of heros that stand out to them and motivates them, and the next generation after ours will have a whole new bunch of heros, and thats how it goes and so on. progression is constantly happing in the sport, its a beautiful thing

I would add Jonny Moseley and the original Jackson Hole Air Force, especially Doug Coombs, in addition to the names that are being thrown around

FOR FREESKIING1- Add in the older crowd along with McConkey (douglas, older "twin tippers" haha)2- Add Candide3-I would agree with those but also add in wallisch's crew 4bi9 since he is the poster child of them...4-Nimbus, but nimbus could go into 2

charles gangier octo grab? haha i mean hes a pusher of the sport but i find it wierd that you define him as this.

From that list I would say Tanner and J.O. but i'd add EP and Candide as well. All the skiers in that list though are awesome in their own right
