Who has been to Yellowstone?

I want to drive to Yellowstone in a couple weeks and I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for places to stay, places to see, or some good hikes that can be at least a couple days long. Thanks for the Help
 
i've been there a few times. last time i got in trouble for feeding a coyote a hot dog and a bag of chips. you can walk on all the trail, they are all boardwalks and are pretty long and fun but i don't think they will last a day or two. you can see 'ol faithfull. and the gift shop/ everyhting building is neat, go up to the crows nest.
 
the boardwalks and all that stuff is nice, but go backcountry. go to a ranger station, get the necessary stuff that is required, and go check out the shit off the beaten path
 
all the geyers and hot springs are cool. the lodge at olf faithful is cool. I stayed there and it was great. I ahven't been there in 12 years though.
 
i went last year with my parents for a couple of days, we stayed in this shit hotel/lodge, i can't remember what it was called so i can't really warn you
 
Well I'd say the coolest thing to see in the Yellowstone area is me. But anyways, if you want a sweet multi-day hike you should go just outside Yellowstone and hike across the Beartooths, it's the coolest hike imaginable. Inside the park there's too many people and the mountains are lame. But that's just my opinion, I'm sure a lot of people must be able to have a pretty good time there or it wouldn't be so popular.
 
if youre going to try and camp there (which is great) get there early because they fill up. but try to get on some of the real trails. you can see a ton of stuff. last time i did that i saw bears and wolves (which is usually rare) and lots of stuff. it can be very tranquil away from the hoards of people. the original lodge is dope, geysers are cool, and yea.
 
i went with my family when i was like 10 and i dont remember anything but some sweet hot springs and climbing half dome

yellow stone is a volcano, DONT GO OFF TRAIL

you can fall in hidden mud pits that appear out of nowhere all over yellowstone, mmmm...boiling sulferous mud.
 
I just got back from yellowstone a few weeks ago. we stayed at the old faithful lodge it was a good time but the geysers can get kind of old after a while. I stayed with people who basically grew up there so they knew everything about the park, i would defintely hit up the grand canyon of yellowstone its pretty amazing.
 
Yellowstone in the summer is the busiest place you will ever see. I havn't been to Yellowstone too much, but I live in Jackson and I would say there is better backpacking to the north and south. Beartooth is sick and theres also a ton of places in Jackson and there would be way fewer people.
 
If you are comming from the west stay at west yelowstone the night before and get yup and into Yellowstone around 7:00am or so go to norris campground and stay in a walk-in campsite on loop A there are some good non walk-in ones to but just drive around a few times and ask people if they are packing up to leave. that is in a good central location. also the road between mammoth and tower is pretty but the bugs are unbarable, If you want to see a heard of bison go on the road from canyon to fishing bridge. If you want to fish try and camp there but it fills up at around 7:15 every day also canyon is rv only because of the bear danger. Just got back but yeah go backpacking or atleast hikingaround. And when they say stay on the boardwalk they really mean it. and if you feed the bears they only get more agressive. and if you are driving around with a camera keep it ready at all times I missed the only moose we saw because my camera was not ready. Also defentily hike around the canyon, I know it is crowded but really worth it, also all the side drives are well worth it. they just take a little more time and they usualy go parallel to the main roads. The cops also use radar (as I found out) and they turn it on when they see you so radar detectors dont work. If you have the time take a day to drive down through the tetons and go down to jackson.
 
u have to go swimming in a river named fire sumthing( i forget its actual name). it is sooo cool the current is strong and there are cliffs to jump off of into the river. it may look like the water will be cold but it is actually warmer than a swimming pool.
 
yea i think we went there its called the fire hole i believe, but it was closed because there were bears spotted but defintely check that out and see if its open it looks sick. alot of places for cliff jumps.
 
ekeane, you're the idiot. I've been there close to 10 times now, and there are plenty of backcountry hikes. Go to any ranger station, they will tell you where the good spots are and give you good tips. As long as you're not a dumbass you don't have to worry about walking into a hotspring.
 
i stayed in the lodge at old faithful too, it was pretty neat. i have one thing of advice though, do not fall in the hot springs, i did that in the middle of winter and it wasnt fun
 
you didn't die from that? Yellowstone is awesome, I love it there. I think i've been there 3 or 4 times. Ditch old faithful, it really isn't all that sweet, plus there are like 90,000 people there for each eruption. Check up on when some of the bigger geysers erupt and go to them. There are a few that erupt every day or two and are really sweet when they actually do. Have a blast

marsland, how could you survive that? im sorry but im calling BS on that one, unless you just tripping and fell at the side one one. That water is almsot boiling hot.
