Who else thinks Kent Krietler is an ass?

Every time I read something about him all he says is how people who ski park are shitty skiers and how much better he is than them. I think it's in the new Powder where he says how him and his friends ski better than everyone on this site. Yeah, he specifically mentions newschoolers. He also said something about Julien being a bad skier. What the fuck?
 
definitely. kids who are purely jibbers aren't really skiers. i'm pretty sure that's what he meant and i completely agree with him.
 
I agree that he's a really good skier, but why does he have to start insulting other people every time he's interviewed?
 
i think that as long as you have skis and know how to make turns..you're a skier. its just your medium you choose. i hate all this classifying bullshit.
 
Because that's what people with low self esteem, who are worried about not having the bag of skills to compete for sponsorships, contracts, and money, do.

honestly, i'm surprised people are still paying attention to KK. he was a great big mountain skier a few years back, but he's a part of the old gaurd that isn't keeping up. i hope he keeps doing what he's doing and i hope he has a blast doing it. that being said, kids who are purely jibbers are no better than the fruit booters they make fun of. if that's what you want to do, have fun, but don't expect to get much respect for your "skiing" skills from most people.

bottom line- KK was instrumental in the early progression of freeskiing, so while he might not understand what's being done right now, it doesn't mean he's an ass. he inspired Seth who inspired so many more kids who have inspired so many more...

and what KK says is mostly correct...many newschool skiers are overly park focused and do not have solid overall skiing skills...

KK is from the original newschool/freeskiing gang - back when many kiddies here were pissing themselves on the nastar run...we were slaying it in tahoe..

wtf man! you're a total idiot. If you think that people that ski park don't have as good technical abilities as big mountain skiers it just shows that you know nothing! Why can't you base you're opinion of a person's ability on their ability and not "where they ski". I know plenty of people that LOVE to ski park and can kick the majority of professional "big mountain" skiers ass in the BC. For example, Kyler Cooley, Tanner Hall, Pep Fujas, Dylan Natale, Tony Boronowski, (just to name a few)

How can you guys hate him? he's always been one of the best big mountain guys. Like he throws large backflips off cliffs(or he used to)You guys should not hate alll the time.
 
its just about hving fun, he makes it seem like theres a standerd you have to be at to be considerd cool or know what your doing, screw that, just have fun, and ignore downers. Sure he tells it like it is, but thats not what its about.

I have been around since teh beginning and seen alot of what kent did in teh early days. He was a sick skier and always will be no one is disputing that. Ive never met him so cant say he is an asshole or not, but I am just sick of him calling everyone out who isnt a big mountain skier. seems like every interview or movie he is ripping on someone cause tehy dont like to ski the kind of stuff he does(or haev the oppurtunity)

Morrison and McConkey give park riding and jibbers the respect they deserve. fuck krietler couldnt ride into the park and bust 15 feetoutta the pipe throwing huge cork 5s. he could 450 to rail to 270 out. he could hit a giant hit and throw and stylie nose blunt switch 1080. i give krietler amazing props for his big mountain ability. hes a gnarly rider. i does seem like ever article or interview on krietler has him bashing some part off the newschool image.
 
well krietler is better than you, me, and the majority of people here!

you don't seem to notice that the whole "newschool" revolution brought kids into the terrain park and many haven't left to improve their all mountain skiing. tanner hall is a classic example, watching him ski park, booters and jibs is awesome and i'll give him respect for that but watching any kind of big mountain skiing he attempts makes me want to kill myself! the man can't ski outside of the park!

so get out of the park, work on your skiing and yes, kk is better than you!
 
i totally agree. tanner's skiing is completely horrible. how is it possible this guy grew up skiing in montana?

as for kent kreitler. he's too old for a lot the guys (or kids) on this site to respect. it's sad that the guys that paved the way for skiing get overlooked so quickly. kent kreitler definitely rips it up and has some of the best skiing style i've ever seen.
 
Yes, he was judging at a comp I was at a couple years ago. I got third place with harder stylier tricks that dominated the second place guy and he gave him a better score. Dick.

KK is a dope skier and has been for years. He help put big mountain skiing where it is today. If you don't recognize that then you just overlooking the freeskiers who got the sport where it is today.

What he says is he thinks skis who only session the park aren't as good at skiing real terrain as thoses who do both.

Is it true? In most cases. Most you kids talking shit can't tear the shit out of the "backcountry" like KK can. Most of the kids on here don't even know what BC really is. While I'm generalizing and there are people on here who actually know what real BC skiing is and the risks that come along with it......everytime I read a kid talking about skiing BC I laugh. Skiing in bounds at a ski area on a powder day or ducking the rope without a beacon doesn't mean shit. The amount of control and ability it takes to skiing BC lines like KK does is more than any park-only skier is capable of.

KK is old school and believe what he will. His opinion of skiing is that someone who can ski a hard line is a better skiing than someone who can throw sick tricks in the park.

I think he's right. Granted I think he is a little harder on pure jibbers than he should be. Many kids don't have the chance to ski anything but park, and while they can be very good park skiers, many don't have the ability to stand on top of a hard line and charge it.

And those saying he should go ski in that park and see what happens should realize that KK isn't concerned with the sickest rails he can find, but the sickest lines. He's skied park. He's even had park shots in film segments. He wasn't throwing cork 7 or anything, but was hitting jumps and throwing tricks.

The point of his comments is that skiers who can't look beyond the park are inferior to people what can ski the whole mountain. How is that being an ass? Jibbing plays a role in skiing today, but there is much more to skiing than jumping and sliding rails. Those who only jump and slide rails are missing elements that would make them a better, more complete skier.
 
here is my say: if you can only ski park and nothing else then you arent a very good skier as he suggests. But if you only ski big mountain lines and cant even slide a rail with some steeze and throw some cork 3's or something than you aren't a very good skier either. Now if KK could throw down in the park, along with his already renowned big mountain steeze, then he would be sick. I agree taht Tanner, Pep, Jon, CR, and Mark A are the complete skiers
 
im not picking sides or tyring to fuel the fire...but if kreitler thinks he is better than everyone, why are the people who still ask "who is kent kreitler?"

granted this isnt a big mountain, pow skiing site, but if he is going to call out anyone on newschoolers and say he is better than anyone here, he should also be aware of the fact that there are people who dont know the difference between him and the ice cream truck driver. yes hes nasty, but you dont have to be so cocky about it
 
peps the only one there that can compete, you really need topay attention to the lines they do, pep may do sick lines with big cliff, but usually never have death exposure and aren't as as steep and technical.

Why do people think T Hall can ski the BC? I could shred him for sure when it comes to rippin a moutain, in yearbook he looked like a fish outta water.
 
Here is my opinion, big mountain skiers are pissed because park skiers get more respect than them so they call out park skiers. Then the park skiers on this site claim they ski BC, that doesn't mean skiing trees or going OB, it means skiing skinning up and understanding your surroundings and how dangerous it can be. There is no BC in the East Coast.
 
To all the park rats out there, mini-golf lines do not equal big mountain skiing. I like the progression that is happening in this sport and I think best example of this is the freestyle movement heading into the backcountry but to call what these skiers are doing big mountain is pushing it a bit.
 
All you morons writing crap are the ones KK is talking about, who can't string 2 turns together, spend all their money on gear but suck at skiing because all they ever do is ski the park, too cool to have taken lessons or gone in racing.

I have the upmost respect for those skiers listed and they are very capable skiing lines.

But comparing them to backcountry only skiers like Hugo Harrison, Dan Treadway, and KK is a joke. While they may not be throwing tricks in BC lines, the speed at which they charge the lines they ski and how technical those lines are makes them vastly superior BC skiers.

I love watching Pep and Boronowski ski lines in the BC (tanner kind of sucks) because those guys are doing stuff outside the park and it is exciting to see them be creative.

But BC skiing ability wise....They get blown away by guys like Hugo. Comparing Tanner Halls BC skiing to Hugo's is a joke.

The only "park" skier who can ski actual big lines, would be eric pollard. Its fun to watch pep and tanner and anthony ski stuff in the BC, but they just are not even coming close to what Seth or Hugo or Kreitler are doing.
