I'm graduating next weekend bitches!

Where's everyone from, what are they graduating with, and what are your plans after?

Real world here I come!

Originally from Minnesota, graduating college in utah, degree in economics, working for an investment bank

I also want to gauge peoples' interest in joining a Business Professional's cult. A place for more mature members who want to go for career help, ask questions about interviewing/resumes. Maybe even have a place where NSers could hook other NSers up with jobs/internships.

Post up and if there is enough interest, I will gladly head that cult

Out of college 6 months and miss it. Probably wouldnt be much different if I hadn't moved from the town though. Haven't missed not having a job in my degree right away though, I'm way too young to be starting a career right now haha. Way too much fun to be had to be working big time responsible jobs at this time

May 19th from UVM with a degree in Athletic Training, originally from NY where I'll spend this summer saving up to move out to Cali this fall.

August 20th, from Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ with a degree in Accounting. to add to the finance degree from CU in 2009.

plans are to begin studying for my CPA exams as soon as I'm done with school, and to start work full time in public accounting

Need to grab some electives over the summer, but come November ill have an HBA in Philosophy (Specialist) from the University of Toronto

Debating it yeah. I have a 4.0 and an internship blah blah blah basically yes I should be able to get in with them but I just keep hearing absolutely horrible things about working for the Big 4 so I'm trying to decide if I'd rather stay with a smaller firm like the one I interned with.

Care to shed any light on it? I'm always looking for other opinions

My Mother worked for one of the big 4 when she graduated with her accounting degree. She said you're paid well but will be treated as a slave, more or less.

But this was 30+ years ago, if not more.

The big 4 recruits heavily here at Miami seeing as how we have a pretty strong Accounting program. From what I hear from people who had internships there is that its alright. Your work/life balance is absolutely terrible for about 4 straight months then you get a lot of free time. Obviously, you get paid pretty well.

You also get a ton of perks.

I know a couple people who have accepted jobs at one of the big 4 and are planning on leaving at some point. You deal with real high-power fortune 500 clients who will try to get you to leave and work for them. If you can network well, you can land an even better position at a more profitable company.

I don't think I would consider a major in ACC if I didn't have a shot at the big 4.

Just food for thought.

thank you for the insight man, i really appreciate it.

When I set out to do this degree and get my CPA afterwards, I made it my sole mission to be the absolute best. I told myself that unless I planned on being the best, I wasn't going to bother, and honestly I stuck to that plan. It's my opinion that I should shoot for the very top, and there's no denying that the best of the best is the Big 4.

If I get the chance to work for them I would take it. I've already sacrificed a ton the past few years to earn these grades and the internship I had and I want the prestige of landing a job with them. We shall see, I have applications out so only time will tell.

Thanks again

Graduating grad school with a masters in finance from Villanova and I'll be moving to NYC to do equity research. Big $$$.

For any of you aspiring accountants out there - don't do it! Switch to finance.

I was in finance, loathed it.

granted, i was in financial services (financial advising/asset mgmt) and not in corporate finance, which I would imagine i would have liked more.

sounds like you'll do great though, that's a good area to be in. best of luck!

Graduated in December, so i figure ill jump in on the thread.

Graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Business with a minor in Economics and Finance

Plans are trying to get on with a financial planning firm, have some good leads so far.

1 year out of college now...4 year in marketing...work for capital safety building fall protection equipment, pretty fun me and another guy are the only two in the marketing department in this branch and pretty much cover the midwest region for brand recognition and advertising etc. .... I miss college bills suck.

Unfortunately, yeah. Degree in Sociology from PSU. I'd rather not leave but whatever, fuck real life.

Yah I mean the term "finance" is so broad there are so many different areas you can get into. Corporate Finance, Capital Markets and Financial Advisory are three completely different beasts however.

I'm going into the Capital Markets space and I think that is the most interesting area to be in. That is the world of Hedge Funds, Private Equity, M&A, Capital Raising, and Equity Research. Wide open career paths in my opinion.

Corporate Finance seems pretty boring to me unless you are in Biz Development or their internal M&A arm.

Financial Services like Financial Advisory is pretty gay too.
