fuck, you cant get faster than a chevy 302 built right. commercial that is, indy cars run up to 22 grand rpms. you gotta have the old school supercharger, with a ram air intake system, none of the new turbo bullshit.

huckster, you obviously don't have a clue about things. First up, the difference between turbo chargers and superchargers is all in the application. A single turbo will take he time to spool, but you can get more boost from it. A supercharger is a lower boost, constant power. A sequential twin turbo set-up while less boost then single larger turbo, is better than a SC. The smaller turbo will spool nearly instantly, and then will lead into the larger turbo once it has spooled. It has less bost than a single turbo, but has much more than a supercharger.

And trust me, Chevy 302s aren't that special at ALL.

I have a 91' 900S, leather, heated seats, 5 speed, power everything... fuckin love Saabs... Wanted a 900S since I was like 11 years old, so I bought an old one last year.... I have a new Element, but I think I'm gonna keep my Saab for down the road. Super fun car to drive, and still love the body stylings on them.

Saabs rip, aluminum body factory HID lights, all that was way ahead of car makers. And HELLO MCFLY, turbo lag WAS a problem - in the early 80's. 2 words: ballbearing turbos. no lag. or use NOS. or twin scroll turbos. there are all kinds of things you can do to reduce turbo lag. People say lag like it takes a half hour for a turbo to spool, its more like 1-2 seconds. Just remember: if you are looking to make the MAXIMUM power you possibly can out of ANY size engine, NOTHING can even come close to a properly built and tuned turbo system. And I'm fairly certain a factory Bugatti quad-turbo @ 1000hp would rape any shitty chev 302.

9000s were not produced then, it may have been rebuilt then, but not from the factory line in 98 or 99 (that rhymes)

shit, how do i not have a clue about things, a turbo will spool, but then is gone and needs to spool again, a supercharger will give you a constant boost, whenever you need it, which means more power in reserve. the ram air intake system will give you up to 50 more horse. when it kicks in, it will move things through the engine way faster. you can get big cams that will lift the swing arms up further and faster, but that costs lots of money. you can get an after market gear cam, but also more cash. you can do a ton of shit to make a car faster, im just sayin that old school is the way to go. put an old 454 next to a new 5.0, guess whats gonna win. the 454, if its built right

what kind of turbos are you using? Never heard of that. You hit the gas, the wastegate shuts and viola - boost, all the way to redline. a turbo is a self-feeding device, more boost means more air and fuel which means more exhaust which means yet more boost. this is not true with a supercharger because its parasitic, it reaches a ceiling. take a top-fuel dragster, at full boost its engine is putting out like 2500hp, but the super is eating 800 - 1000 hp just to drive its pulley.

I've had 4 saabs in my family for the past 17 years.

Our first one was a brand new 1984 red saab. It was really nice, but then it died after like 280,000 miles.

Our next one was a one of the uglyest saabs. It was a 1983 hatch-back. It was rust brown and was in really bad shape. That died like 2 years after we git it.

Now we have a nice 1984 saab turbo hatch back/silver called 'The Silver Bullet'. Its about to die. and we have a nice 1993 saab/blue.

All these cars were and are stick , which is so much fun

My sister just bought a 1993 saab too, but she's probably going to sell it.

So thats my story off all the saabs I've had.

viggen's are a little overrated. you can match a viggen with some cheap after market upgrades to a normal 9-3. my dad's 9-3 has twin turbos now, and upgraded wheels (and rims long story) and some interior work so you would never know that its not a viggen.

im sorry that is not how a super and a turbo compare, in fact it was stupid and wrong, a tirbo and s super are perfectly capable of delivering the same boost which the do, always, sure if you have a turbo run full out on a car it kicks the shot out a turbo, but they dont run full out, ever, if you run a turbo with no blow off valve then you are running about 25-30 psi of boost, unless you have ALL racing parts your gaskets will explode, your engine block will probably crack, you pistons rings will be shot in seconds and you engine might spit a few part out of the bottom of the oil pan, superchargers are used to deliver constant controlled boost to am engine, turbos are used to deliver high end torgue and power and high rpm, they are used for entirly differant reasons so dont compare them. and top fuel cars dont need 800 hp to turn the pully on a super becasue they either dont have a super or it requires 30 hp at the most becasue it uses only slightly more power than a water pump, its a fan not a wheel.

a top-fuel SC does so eat that much hp. the pulley is sized for high end, you cant pressurize AND flow that much air off a pulley without big losses, but I'm not bashing it, the hp gains are obviously there or nobody would bother. here are some more interesting things about dragsters:

* One dragster's 500-inch Hemi makes more

horsepower then the first 8 rows at Daytona.

* Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes

1 1/2 gallons of nitro per second, the same rate of

fuel consumption as a fully loaded 747, but with 4

times the energy density.

* The supercharger takes more power to drive

then a stock hemi makes.

* With nearly 3000 CFM of air being rammed in

by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel mixture

is compressed into nearly-solid form before ignition.

* Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock.

* Dual magnetos apply 44 amps to each spark plug.

This is the output of an arc welder in each cylinder.

* At stoichiometric (exact) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture

(for nitro), the flame front of nitro methane measures

7050 degrees F.

* Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white

flame seen above the exhaust stacks at night is raw

burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water

vapor by the searing exhaust gases.

* Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during

a pass. After 1/2 way, the engine is dieseling from

compression plus the glow of exhaust valves at

1400 degrees F. The engine can only be shut down

by cutting off it's fuel flow.

* If spark momentarily fails early in the run,

unburned

nitro builds up in those cylinders and then explodes

with a force that can blow cylinder heads off the

block

in pieces or blow the block in half.

* dragsters twist the crank (torsionally) so far (20

degrees in the big end of the crank) that sometimes

cam lobes are ground offset from front to rear to re-

phase the valve timing somewhere closer to syn-

chronization with the pistons.

* To exceed 300mph in 4.5 seconds dragsters must

accelerate at an average of over 4G's. But in reaching

200 mph well before 1/2 track, launch acceleration is

closer to 8G's.

* If all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked

for

free, and for once NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run

costs $1000.00 per second.

* dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before

you have read this sentence.

* Top Fuel Engines ONLY turn 540 revolutions from

light to light!

* The redline is actually quite high at 9500rpm.

* To give you an idea of this acceleration, the

current

TF dragster elapsed time record is 4.477 seconds

for the quarter mile.This means that you could be

coming

across the starting line in your average Lingenfelter

powered 'twin-turbo' Corvette at 200 mph

(on a FLYING START) and the dragster would BEAT

you to the finish line FROM A DEAD STOP in a quarter

mile distance!

oh and a wastegate is what keeps a turbo under control a turbo will deliver perfectly safe boost in any reasonably strong motor. and turbos are great for racing, thats why wrc uses them, in fact F1 used to allow turbos but the cars got dangerously fast so that is why most major sanctioning bodies dont allow them.
