Who doesn't drink?

oh I would take a night of hot coco, rootbeer, and an intense game of monopoly over an insane kegger every time! :) ---love God---

lolz

its really not. i went to a party sober the other night because i was feelin shitty from the night before, and now that ive experienced both i can honestly say that it is better to be drunk with drunk people than to be sober with drunk people

Well, I rarely drink but this has been a schwasted monday. Lots of skye shots, sam adams, bong rips and longboarding. What a life I lead.

Totally.

I'll knock off a case of beer by myself every week without a drama

In fact, good beer is one of those things that i'm happy to spend extra money on.

or non extra money

actually, I've made a move toward nicer vodkas recently. I find you get a different buzz of different drinks. I kinda have phases of mainly beer and then mainly vodka. when one starts getting old i'll switch. nothing beets a quality beer on a warm day, or after a day skiing though

haha wine, much like tequila, has been nothing but trouble for me so far!

maybe by the time I'm 30 or so I might have acquired a taste for wine.

dont forget you might be looking at the wrong kids to make your decision....
this is why many of us sort of recoil at your conclusion. not everybody is an ass from a college frat. i live on my own in a very different grown up world without drunk ass party boys that turn every friday night into a gamecube sesh. it seems that you maybe live in the same grown up world, just have observed stupid drunks.
either way, im not forcing you to have a drink. you should try it though, at an appropriate time with maybe some different people. your parents? your co-workers?

Not all my my friends who drink are idiots, but some definitely are when they're drunk. There are lots of people who are idiots when they're drunk and there are lots that aren't.

I'll admit to growing up in a christian family that didn't drink and when I was younger that definitely was a big reason why I didn't, but as I grew up and saw the world the decision to not drink grew beyond the traditional "frowning upon" of drinking in the church.

At some point I'm probably going to have a drink. I lived in Germany 5 years ago for roughly a year and didn't drink then and I kind of regret not having a quality German beer. At this point I'm holding off until I make it back there before I try it.

the bible says that "wine makes the heart of mortal man rejoice".
im not trying to force you at all, just trying to make a stand for those of us who drink, and why we feel "under attack" by tee-totallers (not necessarily you). we dont all just do it for no reason other than to get hammered.

The bible also says not to get drunk on wine, but I'm not trying to argue that.

I promise I'm not trying to get you or anyone else to stop drinking or trying to attack you on your position, simply defending mine. I definitely don't agree with those "non-drinkers" who attack the "drinkers" and vise versa. If you want to drink, cool. If not, cool.

I appreciate your candor and it's nice to have a reasonable conversation on NS.

When I created it I did not want it to go in that direction. I just wondered how many don't drink. I hope people don't argue the hell outta this

i dont really. i mean i have a few beers now and then, but ive never been shitfaced drunk. like maybe a little buzzed at the most. i just dont see the point to be honest

yeah, agreed.
and believe me i know it says not to get drunk, or be a drunk, and various other versions of that idea.
hey, youre up there with one of the most reasonable "non-drinkers" i have ever met. its funny, im not sure where you are from, but i think really the main stigma about this is cultural/social. There have been studies done that you are less likely to get ahead in the business world if you dont go out and drink with your boss (which of course i dont condone). Something about somebody not wanting to partake or be a part of the crowd make the crowd uneasy.
I retire my argument from you, but I still regard those who make their decision off of nothing but trying to make a statement as...well... annoying for trying to make an unsubstantiated statement.
like when i was in middle school and kids were becoming vegetarians left and right almost exclusively because it was in vogue. most of those same kids now as educated adults have come to the consensus that you can be socially responsible and eat meat as well.
ill hook you up with 10/10

and just to make myself feel better.... maybe if you make it to Italy before Germany, you could get yourself a excellent glass of vino with your tuscan meal. Or if you go to Japan, try a highly regarded sake with your sushi. Or if if you live a truly blessed life and end up in Brazil, drink a Caipirihna and salsa with a local for me.
=)

i only drink occasionally, if its not a sketchy situation. too many people at my school have got fucked over with alcohol so I usually just smoke.

Some people shouldn't drink. I have a lot what used to be good friends who are now complete failures in life. Because of being retarded drunk for multiple years and counting.

Ones a total alcoholic. He drinks one thing only, canada house. It is like $6.75 or something out the door, and he drinks a fifth a day easily if he wants to, and even more if you give him shit to stay up. Hes 21, has 2 kids, the baby mama. Living at his GRAND PARENTS HOUSE, because his mom / dad doesn't want him living with him.

Kid is retarded, smokes cigs non stop, his girlfriend did drugs and smoked cigs like crazy while she was pregnant with both of them. Not just pot...but abusing pills and shit. They are the kind of people who reak like tobacco. Their entire room has a permanent stench of it. The kids live in a tobacco crazy environment.

Him and his girl chain smoke and don't give a shit about the kids. Whats funniest about the whole situation in my opinion is he is a stauch republican. Yet he relys so heavily on government assistance to raise his children because he can't even finish high school, yet alone have a good paying job. It's like hey you are a republican, who essentially benefits from the democrats more so than any republican ideals.

Hes let himself gone to shit, his teeth are cheese now. So stained from smoking and shit. I have no clue why hes done this to himself. You don't even want to know how he acts when drunk. Because he isn't even worth trying to talk to. He is more likely to start a fight, break something, get irate, etc. Hes a short fuse ready to blow at any second.

Straight up, you can find the alcoholics with no life by looking for the kids chasing cheap liquor with a pop by themselves. It's one thing to have a mixed drink by yourself or a beer. But to be like yo im getting fucking trashed...here on out every day bymyself. Heres how retarded he has become, he was driving a forklift at one of his last jobs, and he FELL ASLEEP while on the forklift. He was fired on the spot.

Dude falling asleep while driving a forklift.......

I don't drink! I just don't feel the need to, I don't like the taste, and I don't want to spend money on it.

I'm not saying that I won't ever drink, I just don't feel the need to right now.

I don't. I never really have, but I was working in a rehab center and really have decided not to. Way too many people have messed up their lives with it. There are a lot of people who model/live drinking responsibly but possibly we need examples of people who don't drink. I know a few really cool people that can't live a normal life because alcohol has control of them, that sucks.

your super cool! It's just a choice that some make and it's a bitch move to hate on it. As i said in the thread title, I'm not hatin on your choice to drink.
