WHY CAPTAIN FALCON OWNS YOU by Tom.

As all great SSBers know, there are seven main qualities that make up the characteristics of a fighter: speed, jump, range, power, weight, size and specials. In this essay I will explain how C-Falc covers all of these bases, and is therefore not only the most well rounded, but also the most advantageous of all the Super Smash Bros fighters.

Speed:

Captain Falcon is from the futuristic racing game series F-ZERO. This is the most likely reason that the creators of SSB made him the fastest fighter. But why is speed so important? The speed, or quickness of a character determines how hastily a fighter can move around the arena. This is insanely helpful when it come to dodging attacks, retrieving items, and getting in position to land a fatal blow. In scenarios where C-Falc is paired up with slower fighters such as DK, or Kirby (the slowest of all) he can literally run circles around them, teasing them with light punches, as well as using ranged weapons to raise their damage, until he moves in for the kill by dodging his opponent's blows, and then (because of his quickness) he is able to safely get inches behind his opponent, and throw them off of the map with a grapple move. When is comes to speed C-Falc has no equals.

Jump:

Although not the best jumper in the game, C-Falc is certainly not the worst. With a maximum jumping height of approximately 18 scale feet, cowering over fighter such as Link, who’s best is only about 10ft. Although not the most important attribute, nobody can deny its usefulness. Jumping is used mainly for returning to the map after being knocked off by an opponent. However, it is also used to jump over opponent if you wish to go to a different area of the map, and for knocking opponents up and over the map when you are fighting opponents in an aerial battle. C-Falc ranks about 4th in the ups category, making him above average. Who ever said that white men can’t jump?

Range:

Range is easily one of the most, if not the most important attribute for a fighter to have. Range, technically speaking, is defines as "The distance from which a fighter can throw an attack from a standing position."(SSBer's Handbook, pg. 86) Every fighter has many different attacks—all with varying ranges. While some fighters such as Link are gifted with long-range melee attacks, others such as Samus are endowed with attacks that have an infinite range, and a thusly called "ranged"(Anatomy of Fighting Games, pg. 209) attacks. Range is important because it determines the distance from which a player can safely attack another. For instance, if two fighters are walking towards each other the fighter with the longer-range attack will be able to strike his opponent first. Captain Falcon has only two long-range melee attacks, one being A+tap forward. This attack has the longest range of all A button attacks. Although it has a very small strike zone (area where the attack hits), the hands of a skilled professional are accurate enough to ensure a direct hit almost every time. Captain flacon also has the longest range and fastest of all melee attacks—Falcon Kick. Although Falcon Kick isn’t particularly powerful, it is great for engaging opponents at long distances. It has minimal charge up time, a very fast attack time, and a huge strike zone. These qualities make Falcon Kick very hard to dodge.

Power:

To a newb, power may be the only thing that matters, but this is certainly not the case. Although extremely important, power alone does not win a fight. Power’s only use is to knock an opponent off of the map. This of course is the most important objective for a player, but if you don’t weaken an opponent first, even DK’s Donkey Punch won’t do much besides inconvenience your opponent. Power attacks are always in some combination with the B button. And they are essential for finishing an opponent. Power moves are generally classified as an attack that does 30% damage or more. Power attacks should only be used in two scenarios. One being that you have inflicted over 100% damage to you opponent, and are ready to land the final blow. The other being that you have thrown your opponent off of the map, and he only has enough jump to get back to the very edge of the map (not jump over you). The delivery of the power attack must be well thought out. All power attacks have either a long charge up time, or a long cool down time. C-Falc easily has the most well rounded power attack. Falcon Punch has the second fastest charge up, and cool down time. Making it ideal for usage in both scenarios. It is quick enough to charge up while the person is still returning to the map, and it is fast enough so that if you miss an opponent during battle, you can recover fast enough to prevent your opponent from landing a heavy blow on you.

Weight:

Weight usually isn’t much of a factor in battle. Weight determines how far a fighter will be thrown by an attack. Almost all fighters have around the same weight, with the only three exceptions being Jiggly Puff, Kirby, and DK. Fighters like Jiggly, and Kirby are very light-weight, making them easy to throw off of the map, while a fighter like DK, is very heavy, causing you to have to inflict more damage before being able to clear him. Captain Falcon (like 85% of fighter) has an average weight.

Size:

Size is closely related to weight, In that most fighters who are heavy are big, and those who are light are small. All size determines is how big of a hit zone a fighter has. Although in cases such as Kirby, Pikachu, and Jiggly Puff, the difference is so minuscule as to be almost indifferent. DK has such a huge hit zone that it is a big factor battle. Once again C-Falc is average in this category.

Special:

Special attacks are classified as “Any attack whose main purpose is not to inflict damage directly”(SSBer's Handbook, pg. 208). In other words, it’s an attack that cannot be classified as range or melee. Few characters have a special attack, and even fewer have a useful special attack. Jiggly Puff’s Sing is all fine and well, but it has almost no range, or strike zone. And Ness’ Shield Regenerator is about as useful as the search bar. The only useful special is Fox’s Deflector Shield. And even that is very limited. 4 times out of 5 Fox wont won’t even use it the entire battle. However, it is incredibly useful against certain items such as the ray gun and fire flower, and can pretty much win the battle against Samus. However, against Captain Falcon—the “Melee Master”(Gamer Magazine, pg. cover) it won’t help at all. Falcon has in place of a special, filled that area with another versatile move.

C-Falc is the best player because he has all of his bases covered, and no weak points. He is a no-nonsense fighter that hasn’t a useless move to speak of. In fact, in battle many gamer find themselves using practically all of C-Falc’s moves. Each one specialized for a specific use; there is no situation where one of his moves would be just as good as the next. He can regularly dominate the competition, and is favored in most pro SSB circuits. Make him your choice, and have fun dominating your friends.

^ that just converted me. but normally i would use samus, cuz if pikachu shocks her, and you freeze it she is in her underwear. hehe.

WOW.   Bowser used to be my main man but i guess now its Captain Falcon.  No offense dude but WAY TOO MUCH TIME on ur hands.  but hey thx for the insightful response.

the only good thing about captain falcon is that when you hit someone with the FALCON PUNCH the whole room goes fucking nuts and you can yell "FALCON PUUUNCH"...

i used to game this game and got into the hundreds of thousands of kills if you looked at the score sheet, i'm captin falcon, or for the speedy jews, pikachu

for gamecube...

the following players are fuckign gay as hell, like playing a normal team vs an all-star team in a sport video game.

fox

marth

roy

...if you'er "good" with those players than you're nto good at this game. nothing pisses me off more than fox's up-A (up c) attack...so lame

i roll with

pikachu

samus

dr. mario

link

zelda

let me just say that gamecube is gay, and yes, I do have too much time on my hands.

give me an argument that any player has an advantage over captain falcon.

links long-ranged grabs, bow/arrow, boomerang.

although not the fastest, he has more range and can deal more damage on ending blows such as side tap +a a. yes hit A twice. most ppl dont see it coming after the first miss, but thats when you strike to send them flying upwards to death.

pkachu's speed and range could also defeat c. falc.

if he tries to get above, simply use thunderbolt. side tap a's are also effective since they stay in effect for longer than usual attacks.

donkey kong can do grab/sacrifice moves, ground bongo drum move (to stop falcon kicks an dshit), can freeze ppl in the ground to pummel them to shit, and also has a strong special.

theres more, but unlike you i have things to do.

link might be as good/better than captain falcon, but he cant jump. and it kills him. hes so easy to get near the edge, and then just throw him off fallowed up by a power attack and hes dead.

piikachu lacks power, and his range is nothing special. Captain falcon has more range and stronger attacks in general, wich is a killed combination for pikachu consider he is one of the lighter fighters.

Donkey Kong is big and slow. easily the easiest thing to beat the shit out of. Falcon Kick does get cancled out buy the ground smash, but so does DK's ground smash. and since Captain Falcon is quicker than DK, after they both recover, he will be the first one to attack. His "special" I assume your talking about the Donkey Punch is the second strongest move in the game. but it takes a while to charge up, and it also has a huge wind up before he punches. this makes it easy to spot when he is about to throw his punch, and either block it, or dodge it. His sacrifice move, i assume you mean when he grabs you he can just jump off the map while holding you. its pretty easy to break free if you tap a really quickly. and even if he does get you (which almost never happens) he dies too.

wow how the fuck did i miss this thread.

i could smoke EVERY SINGLE PERSON who has responded to this thread. i kid you not. i'm sure some of you could give me a small run, but i am seriously one of the best smash players to ever fucking play the game and when i say i would ruin you, i mean i would ruin you.

and i use kirby motherfuckers so chomp on that little nugget before you go to sleep. nighty night.

funny i dont think you understand, like im sorry, but you have no idea and dont make you tell my story over again

Just consult the essay. Im really good, and if you dont use Captain Falcon... then I dont care how good you are, you will lose.

fox roy or marth wold dominate c-falc. uver time you doa falcon kick/punch/fire move you pause for second afterwards...fox uses his fuckign shield runs over whiel you are pausing...and up-C's you...see ya

hahaha please don't run your mouth about things you don't understand - namely, smash. you may feel noobish when you use kirby, but i would wreck your weak ass nes, fox, or mario or whatever other character you suck with

how do we know ur the best thats what everyone is gonna say that there the best but you wont know for sure unless u play them..........they should hyave smash online

kirby is far lesssuperior then fox. im not going into details but to sum it up fox is faster, has better range, and can pretty much counter and of kirbys moves. kirby may be good against other but against fox he gets straight up dominated

every one from NS should email nintendo saying if they could do Super Smash live for like a month so we can have a Newschoolers Super Smash tounement.

Haha, I can just see Nintendo's next big exec meeting...

"So a bunch of kids from some skiing site want us to make Smash live for a month so they can have a tournament..."

"A skiing site?"

"What the fuck is skiing?"

"Must be a bunch of fucking white kids..."

"Oh, it's one of those American things? Fuck them."

"They can suck my Wii Wii."

"You're not fooling anyone, Tim, you don't have a fucking Wii Wii."
