Who do you use for a bank?

Whaddup NS, So I use a credit union in Minnesota for most of my banking, but as I will be living in SLC for the foreseeable future I am looking to get a bank account at one of the soulless large banks that has locations everywhere. Wells Fargo, Chase etc. Just so I have access to cash, possibly checking, etc.

SO lets hear the rundown of the best of the worst.

I've got a lock box filled with a couple thousand just chillin in my house. I really should put it into a bank so I can at least earn a little bit of interest, but I'm planning on buying a new car soon so I need it around once the car is ready.

I've been using Chase for 10+ years now.

Honestly at this point all the big banks are the fucking same. Unless you have direct deposit, which most people do, and keep a minimum balance they charge you a fee for having a checking account that has a .01% rate. They all bang you for $2.00 for using an out of network atm.

TD Bank is probably the best at the moment because they are trying to expand their retail banking in the US.

It's all about whats convenient for you.

yeah I will be using direct deposit, and hopefully I will be able to have it direct deposited back to Minnesota, but in the event my employer wont / cant I need a bank with locations in Utah.

Also it would be good to have a bank out here that i can stash a few K in so I have better access to cash VS having to pull money out of an ATM

Bank of America.

Fees are slightly lower than quite a few banks.

Main reason is that when I travel, they are part of the Global Banking Alliance and it's free to pull out money in nearly every large country with a main bank. They use the same exchange rate that google posts too. Super nice. I figured out that my friends were paying $1.60 per euro by exchanging cash at the air port. I was paying $1.31 by using an ATM. And if you use your actual debit card for a transaction, the fee is only 1% which is lower than a lot of other banks.

Not sure if in Utah, but if you ever plan to travel internationally, there isn't anyone better that I know of.

I would like to suggest not using Bank of America! Let alone ridiculous fees, customer service and even online banking is a pain. Horrible experience with them.

Go TD or find a bank with zero ATM fees. Tired of fucking ATM fees when no local one around or late night somewhere or whatever!

when i was moving around I had a bank of america savings account to deposit my paychecks.

i would then transfer it out to my paypal, and move it to other accounts as needed.

it was fine until they started charging my fees for taking money out like that...closed it promptly when they wouldn't help me at all and i went with a local bank.

it probably would have been fine if i had a checking account though...
