I don't know, but I don't like it. I just say I'm riding the park or grinding rails. I think that it sounds lame to be like,'I was jibbing on this super narley rail in the pow pow.' Just ride.
its a word from snowboarding taht means grinding rails or sessioning a box or something. however, it doesnt mean hitting jumps or anythinhg, so i dont know how we adopted that word for newschool skiing.
i use jibbing. I say, 'wouldn't it be cool to jib that sign?' or 'I don't feel like hitting jumps today, just feel like jibbing' some more words you would use are bonk and slide.
I'm not saying you guys are posers. I'm just saying the kids where I live who use it are mostly posers. I think that we should just say something like 'sessioning' the rails or park instead of jib.
Dude! its a word... go drink a beer and forget about it, at least its not called something like fucking a dog... 'what are you going to do today? Oh, i think im going to grab my skies and go fuck a dog.' see that would suck.
Jibbing came from those kooky knuckedraggers that can only use one board. its means to like grind. but the whole new school movement was started by the New Canadian Air Force. That'd be JF, JP, Vinnie, Douglas. They and their friends started all the stuff we do and try to do today. Hence your history lesson of the day.
The word jib is pretty lame. When you use a word like jib it sounds like you're trying to be trendy and fit in. Good riders don't use that kind of lingo.
It came from snowboarders. They consider jibbing slidding rails, boxes, etc. But some dumbass skier probably thought it meant all the freestyle shit. It's not that bad of a word, but there are a lot of cooler words out there.
i only use jibbing for raials, etc - 'i wanna jib that rail' or 'i wanna tryout that jib'. i like that word, it's short and easily said..... no effort required.

Funny how massive corporations and media giants like NBC refuse to support new skiing events like big air and big mountian, yet they use the latter's image to enhance their own. Actually, not so funny. Suck it, NBC.
