Whitewater/Nelson vs Revy

So I’m tryna decide where to go next winter and both of these seem like good options. I’m just wondering if anybody has any experience finding a job and place to live in either town, or just any experience living there.

I've been to Revy for two months. Mountain is incredible if you don't ski park and the vibe is really sick, everyone is super stoked to be there. Plus you got Roger's Pass to go do backcountry. There is so much incredible terrain to ride there. Would definitely recommend Revelstoke as a destination if you want to ski pow. I could go on and on about this place.

Yeah I’ve only ever done one or two days there, but if I can find a job and a house i think it might end up being where I go

Revy if you’re going just for the season. If ya thinkin longer term I’d say Nelson

Yeah originally I was gonna do red but that seems more long term as well

Terrain at Red is sooo good. Steep, lots of options for a smaller mountain, and even when its busy there can b pow all day... But if you stay at Revy you can easily just make the occasional trip down to Red

I live in Nelson. Just to let you know; there are no jobs...unless flipping burgers for minimum wage is your thing. Rent is pretty high, so you will be flipping a lot of burgers. I work elsewhere to pay the bills, but its worth it. Whitewater is crazy technical and the access to the backcountry is really good. However, the place is crowded and the city doesnt have much nightlife.

Rossland...good luck finding a place, but down the hill is Trail. There are good opportunities there and its a pretty cool town. Red is huge comparing to Whitewater and the backcountry can get gnarly if you look hard enough.

Revy is kinda the place to be. Lots of jobs, housing and development. The mountain is pretty crazy and it snows quite a bit up there. But, with snow, comes the people. Ive waited over 2hrs in the 3 lifts to get to the top, then 45mins each lap. for 110$ a day, it was still worth it.

Don't bother coming to Nelson unless you ski tour. The hill is fun, but is tracked by 11am on a pow day and is kind of limited for terrain I'm jaded though, so if it's just for a season and you're new to kootenay style skiing it could worth it. No idea about work here. I have my career, so do all my friends, don't really hang out with transient winter working crowd. I guess I'm jaded and old.

Revy is busy, got that Trans Canada vibe. ski hill is good I guess, but the touring is better. I lived there for two years and didn't like it at all. Lived in Rossland for almost a decade but the small size of the town and lack of snow at Red eventually made me leave. I found my home in Nelson, it's nice here.

I’ve been to whitewater a few times but haven’t been to revy yet so I can’t really compare them.

That being said, whitewater was a very fun mountain to ski. If you plan on staying on the resort, they have excellent food and I enjoyed the backside quite a lot. I hear off piste skiing up there is great as they can get a fair amount of snow. Nelson is a bit of a dead town and as others have said there isn’t a lot to work aside from flipping burgers and the housing can get a bit expensive.

I live in Nelson and lived in Revy last year. Finding a place to live in both town is pretty hard so if you're planning on moving in September/October, I'd start looking now. Finding a job is probably harder in Nelson than it is in revy. If you're going to revy, I'd look into a job at the hill since they hire quite a bit more staff than whitewater. it's also easier and quicker to get to revy from town, the whitewater access road will destroy your car towards the end of the year because of all the potholes and ruts.

I prefer whitewater, for me the terrain has most of what is good at Revy, but in a more svelte package with a hilariously old double chair. The food at Whitewater is the bomb too. Nelson is a cool town, but by all accounts it's nigh on impossible to find a place. Whitewater hires the world's most beautiful lift attendants. The park at WW is so negligable it may as well not exist. Kootenay pass, home of some magical backcountry skiing is just up route 3 a fairly short way. It seems to just nuke snow all the time in the Kootenays.

I think it's a bit easier to find shelter in Revy. The mountain holds some incredible terrain. You will find yourself stepping up your game to respond. Bigger sends, steeper mini golf lines. On a clear day, the view alone is worth the lift ride. The park at Revy isn't too extensive, but it's quite good, with fun tree runs on each end.

Both places have world class terrain within an hour's tour.

I found otherwise, but I did a fair bit of bushwhacking to find the freshies. You will for sure get more out of that area if you tour though. It's unusual to see someone without touring bindings at Whitewater.

Times have changed in the last few years. Jerrys and Geraldines have completely taken over the place. People like this are quite common now.
