Whiteface

Alright, YES I searchbarred, but couldn't find anything like this. Second of all, this is NOT intended as a rant, but just to let people know. I was up at Whiteface with a friend Friday, and with no clouds in the sky, and actually pretty warm, the weather was geat. Unfortunately, the skiing was not. EVERY single trail was the same slightly icy steepish groomer. I saw TWO gladed trails on the map, and ONE with moguls. Okay I thought, We'll just hop over into one of the six or so parks they said they had, and hit some of the 30 somthing features they claim to have. First of all, only ONE of the five parks had any tables larger than a 3 foot clearance, and there was only 3 jumps in that park. Second, for reasons unknown to me, most of the boxes/rails were upside down on the side of the trail, leaving a total of like 5 rusty boxes/rails.

IMO, it's fine to have no park as long as the rest of the skiing is good, or the other way around, but all I could find was endless icy groomers. Is Whiteface always like this, or were they just neglecting the park because of the World Cup boarder-cross event thing they had going on that day?

yea. i havent skied there in awhile but yes its usually shitty. gore is way better condition wise. most ppl call whiteface "iceface."

excuse me for saying this.. but what are you smokeing? yeah sure its icy.. but you obviously dont know where to look for the good skiing. whick leads me to believe that you have never been to whiteface or only been there a few times. i was there today, and i think i only hit 1 ice patch.. best conditions ive seen in a while.. untracked glades, soft landings in the park. (by the way the brookside park has 3 jumps that are at least 40-50 footers..) and great all around conditions...

sorry about the hate

yeah there are alot of rails on the side of trails and there for th events that would these rail into high traffic gaper lanes so thats why there not in

Alright, that would explain the lack of rails, I was looking forward to the DFD and 34' battleship though. And I'll admit that me not being able to find some decent glades was probably due to it being one of my first times their, I'm just used to Smuggs where openings to glades are blatantly obvious. (Though you do have to work to find the better ones even at Smuggs). My other problem with the jumps was they had like 3 40-50' like you said, and the next biggest were literally like 2 foot clearance. It's kind of nice to have something in between, for kids like me who aren't up to trying to spin a 40-50' yet. Oh well, I'm atleast glad to here the park isn't always like that.

you go to whiteface for the verticle and the view, not for the snow or the park.

they have put together solid parks in the past though, just never when i was there.

Im going to guess you didnt hit the down, s, or rainbow rail sbecuase those are some of the smoothest at whiteface, and as far as jumps go, the first one is LARGE, its easily past 30ft whichh is a pretty good size in my opinion, and sometimes you just get bad days at the face but thats apart of riding here, why do you think Mike Clarke stomps his shit so damn hard? haha, basically you get to whiteface on a soft day and its extremely nice and fun. I hope you get to see another side of this mountain sometime

dude no offense, you need to stop bitching about everything. If i get a day at whiteface i think its like something special... hell i am just happy with skiing anywhere. I love whiteface's park even though most of the features fuck me up all the time i still think they're dope. Also whiteface is dope cuz the locals there are mad chill, I met ljskibum540 (Jake) for the first time last week at whiteface and he came up to me and my friend in the lift line and was like "yo guys are u on ns?" And then he rode with us the rest of the day and it was dope to ski with a kid who straight up kills it. So i don't know how you can talk shit about a mountain whos has given me nothing but joy.

it is icy consistently

IN LIKE 3 SPOTS ON THE ENTIRE MOUNTAIN

but once you ski there a lot, you find good spots and manage to avoid bitching people like you

but im not hatin, its the usual response of people their first time at whiteface

i loved whiteface when i went, super warm and slushy, no ice. but it got cold later, and got more solid. i cant wait to get back up there

Alright, excuse me, but I beleive I was entirely reasonable with my posts. I wasn't saying the whole mountain sucked and nobody should go there. I realize it's more fun if you know where you're going, and as someone pointed out the reason the rails were mostly gone was because of the World Cup Boarder Cross thing that day, but honestly, calling me a bitch because I was letting people know that I didn't think Whiteface was as good as some people claim? Jesus, calm down children.

dude im sorry i m sick of hearing kids bitch about whiteface, alright, it is what it is and I think its dope... by far the best in NY.

did you guys know that a spitting cobra can spit its venom up to 5 feet!!!! Thats so coooool!!!!

thread jack alert....im going to be at iceface from next sunday the 9 to the 12th....whos all gunna be there are there lots of people around shredding the gnar in the parks or will it be me an my buddy all alone?

well first off, dont listen to this thread creator, the jumps at whiteface are perfect right now, they also have a lot of fun jibs up in there parks.

u should have no problem findin kids to ski with there, lots of ns ers shreddin around there

im there everyday even during the week, hit me up man im always down riding with new people!!! but only for the afternoon anyways, should be fun

I never insulted the jumps, just said they had nothing between a 3 footer and like a 30 something. Can't you just accept that I didn't have the best ski day of my life on Friday, and was just wondering if it's always like that, or I just picked the wrong day? Why is it assumed that I'm bitching and saying I hated it?

^actually i tend to do that on days that there is more ice than snow.. its fun. and gets you to the park faster

thats what im saying! cause turning on ice is like painfullllll

but i live in western new york, there is like one steep run here, everything else is boring.

i'm gonna go ahead and back him on the shitty conditions... i've been to whiteface over 20 times in my short time on this glorious earth, and of those numerous times i have only had good weather and good conditions 3 times, 2 of which were a week and half ago. sure good edges will help the cause, but you can't deny that the conditions there are terrible a majority of the time. the mountain simply faces the wrong direction, and ice is the result... but either way, i had a great time there last weekend, and that is the first time i could ever say that. so even if the good days are few and far between, i guess some credit is deserved.

yeah ive skied there a bunch of times this year, its not the best, usually icy by midday, the park is usually pretty good though

To the thread creator... Did you not notice that each of the jumps had a big and small side to them. The big sides being lofty 40's and the smalls being about 10-15. It was world cup weekend meaning that the entire park staff was busting their balls for 2 weeks getting that course up. Just because you suck and cant hit a decent sized jump and dont understand that a crew of 15 guys cant keep a good park and a world class bordercross course going at the same time doesnt mean you have to call them out on it. Im sorry if i sound like a dick but seriously man... Oh and next weekend i heard we are getting all of the snow from the bordercross into the park. to the guy comming then ill be there, hit me up on here and we'll meet up and ride I'll probably be with jake and maybe dillon but i think he is gunna be in whistler....hit one of us up if you wanna ride

L3S

^again, well put. and not to mention, when you ski there every weekend or every other weeknd for 14 years, you get used to the ice, just like snow other mountains...

my parents and this other family said we were going to killington for springbreak... they have sinced changed there minds and we are going to whiteface now. bad decision?

nah dude, whiteface in march/april is off the hooook

besides they are pushing 3/4 of the snow form the world cup boardercross into the park, so that means not only more features but more base so it will be super duper dope for longer

Alkky.....jesus christ buddy, can't we just drop it? I mean honestly. Now it's assumed that I suck because I didn't like your precious park on one particular day? I was already informed that the park had been neglected a little because of the boardercup thing, and that's all I was wondering. So I got my question answered, and I'm done with this thread. If you have anything else useless and derrogatory to say, do your self a favor and don't bother posting it, because trust me, it will not be read. I hate sinking to the level of people like you and throwing online insults because to be honest, it makes me feel as immature and worthless as you come across as but if you and your little Whiteface gang are going to keep on acting like pricks, I'm going to have to ask you with all due respect, to shut the fuck up. Thank you, that is all.

Sincerely, Ian

word im goin there for my spring break in like two weeks and will be skiing for 3 days. it looks sick there, definitely stoked to head up

im coming up for my march break. gunna get there on the 9th. ill be in a pink jacket if anyone can find me

so i'll be heading up and skiing next friday. What are the slopes and parks lookin like, still in good condition?

everytime ive been to whiteface it was sick, good park and really good snow, it even snowed 26 inches during the day while i was there once.

whiteface is a locals mtn. if you havent been there before all yoru going to see is the ice. I just finished my first year at plattsburgh this past year and had the best ski season of my life at whiteface (40+ days) . Ive been skiing there since i was a kid and im still finding new lines through the trees, and trails i never knew about. If you are lucky enough to ski whiteface when they have some fresh its one of the best mtns in the east. im my opinion its really underrated

PS baking out the gondola is always fun too

werd and werd, no offence but the park gets kindof boring, finding lines throuigh the trees is more fun. and theres numerous small rocks to drop. theres one somewhere, i would describe its location but i would just confuse myself. its probably like 8-10 ft maybe bigger, just in the middle of hte trees thats hella fun. i agree its under-rated. some of my best memories from skiign are in that gondola

once again im propping up whiteface... but no one has mentioned The Slides yet. holy shit. best trail ever. actually is a set of trails. i think 6. and boy are they challenging. its like a 400 yard mellow pow bowl, then a nearly vertical 30 ft frozen waterfall. and there are 3 of them. if you can ski these, then your a skier.

also, some 11 or so people have died on them.

^ i know exactly what cliff your talking about, so fun when theres good snow. I skiied the slides a couple times this yeaar, slide 4 is probably my favorite trail at whiteface
