Has any one had them or have them? If so what method did you use to get them? Any thoughts on them? I was thinking about getting them, and not because of jahh bless. I like the way they look and the attitude they come off with. If you have had post pictures!

Inb4 I'm a fool and need to cut my hair.

unless you are a magician, they will look like shit if you do them yourself. go to a black people hairdresser and see what they can do. it may be more expensive than you think.

oh and PICS

Do this, it's a little over a hundred but they'll do a good job. I had em for 3 years, they were sweet at the time, got grody as fuck by the end though.

It all depends on how you take care of them. I would make sure it wouldn't look like that you can shower everyday you can use shampoo 3 times a week. All the dirty gross hair is a stereotype.

natty is the best way. get some residue-free shampoo, wash your hair every other day, NO CONDITIONER AT ALL, and do not comb or brush it under any circumstances. depending on how thick your hair is, it can take between 6 months to a year for them to start looking decent, but it's worth the wait when black people with real dreads can't make fun of yours, because they're real too. if you're an impatient prick, the best option is backcombing. it's the single best way to make them work, and there's very little maintenance required, if any after the first month or two. look it up on the internet, you can have your friends do it at your house or get it done professionally. backcombing is best done with your hair at your shoulders or longer, and naturally grown dreads are best started from the beginning (short hair).

double post, no fucks given, YOLO bitches.

a side note - naturally grown dreads aren't guaranteed to be evenly distributed or all the same size, whereas with backcombed dreads you can control the size and location of each lock within half a centimeter or so.

haha i have to agree. unless youre playin in a reggae band, dreds are not the best look for a white dude. or chick.

you do whatever you want to do. If you like the way you look, that's all that matters.

I, for one, am not a fan.

I had them for a little bit...
then it was about 94 degrees on a backpacking trip in the eastern sierras, so I took a knife to them haha.

Dreadheadhq.com man it's the way to go.

Totally depends on the kind of person you are and if you are dedicated to it. It's a chore. Not just a ton of fun hair. Lol

its a hard hairstyle to pull off if your white. but go for it dude. get it done professionally, if its done wrong it can pull out the roots of your hair and hurt your scalp really bad. my friend learned this the hard way.

There're a few different ways to make dreads,

I used to have a few in my hair and used the twist and rip technique for most of them and they looked awesome.

They're more maintenance than you might expect though, but they can look good if you do them right.

just got em a few weeks ago after wanting to forever...

i backcombed and palm rolled with a little wax.

just make sure you have a lot of time to dedicate to make them... and also at first you wanna keep fixing them up so they stay looking good.

i love em! so stoked i finally have em

you get dreads by not taking any care of your hair for a very long time. Good luck post pics if successful.

If you can handle, live, and deal with 95% of people looking in pity, disgust, or assuming you're a useless hippie and/or pothead, go for it!

okay buckle up....

I have dreads, Ive had them since last January. I got them because I liked the way they look and I still do. They hit just a little past my shoulders right now. As for getting them go to Dreadheadhq.com and read their ssite thoroughly. The main thing to do is research them fully before getting them. Before I got mine I researched them off and on for about two years. The method Id say is best is backcombing, I got mine done in a salon and They backcombed and also crocheted mine. I would say use wax to start if you want, BUT USE VERY LITTLE IF ANY. The place that did my dreads used wayyyyyyy too much wax and I had a hell of a time washing it all out. If you and a couple friends (girlfriend, etc) feel comfortable doing them yourselves then let them do it. If not, go to a salon and spend the money to do it.

As for washing them, I wash mine 3-4 times a week, I play college football so during the season I wash them more than 3-4 times per week.

The main problem you will have working against you is time. Everyone (me included) wants their dreads to look perfect right off the bat... and that is not the case at all. For white people it takes about a year for your dreads to start looking legit. Yes theyll look dreaded throughout that first year but IMO a year is about the time where it starts too look legit. Another problem is summer heat, along with long hair in general, its hot as hell. But, if your dreads are long enough like mine are you can just pull em back in a ponytail etc.

Also, society doesnt accept dreadlocks so you will have to battle with the usual people saying. "OMG DID YOU PUT HONEY IN YOUR HAIR?!" or my personal favorite "YOU DONT SHOWER BECAUSE YOU HAVE DREADS" You will have a lot of people looking at you funny and asking you the most random questions you could ever think of. Enjoy it, embrace it, and be kind to the people interested in them.

If you have any questions PM me, I currently have a deactivated facebook account so I cant post a picture of myself.

if your white, i don't care what you look like or what you dress like or how jah you are, DO NOT GET DREADS. you will look like a fucking idiot
