Tapping my inner Gnartron here. This just shows how little people research the people they vote for.

Dave Wilson is white. But to win a seat on the Houston Community College Board of Trustees in a district predominantly comprised of African-American voters, Wilson, a conservative Republican, led voters to believe he was black.

According to CBS affiliate KHOU-TV,

Wilson's direct mail campaign included a flier with smiling black faces

he says he found on the Internet. "Please vote for our friend and

neighbor Dave Wilson," the accompanying text read.

In another

flier, the text said he had been endorsed by Ron Wilson, a popular black

former state representative. But the Ron Wilson who endorsed him was

Dave's cousin Ron, not the ex-lawmaker.

"He's a nice cousin," Wilson told the network, chuckling. "We played baseball in high school together."

Nevermind his cousin lives in Bloomfield, Iowa, some 940 miles from Houston.

On Tuesday, Wilson defeated Bruce Austin, the 24-year incumbent, by a margin of just 26 votes.

Austin, who is African-American, called Wilson's tactics "disgusting."

"I don't think it's good for both democracy and the whole concept of fair play," he said.

"He never put out to voters that he was white," Austin said in a statement to the Houston Chronicle. "This is one of the few times a white guy has pretended to be a black guy and fooled black people."

But Wilson, who won a six-year term on the nine-member board, is unapologetic.

"Every time a politician talks, he's out there deceiving voters," Wilson said.

Austin said he would seek a recount, but Bob Stein, a political scientist at Rice University, believes the vote will stand.

"I

suspect it's more than just race," Stein said. "The Houston Community

College was under some criticism for bad performance. And others on the

board also had very serious challenges."

"Every time a politician talks, he's out there deceiving voters," Wilson said.

Fuck it, let him have the position. Dude sounds like the most honest politician to ever run for anything.

if people want him out because they thought he was black and it turns out he's not

THATS RACIST! oh how the tables have turned

Fuck yeah! Just shows how much race matters on both sides. People act as though black people aren't racist ever. If you vote for a politician because they're black white a man or woman that's shits stupid.

Inb4 somebody pretends to be a chick and runs for president.

TROLL THE WORLD!

Hahahah, crazy. I wouldn't want a politician to really do this stupid stuff (they already do), but it really goes to show you how and why people vote the way they do..

Yeah I agree. It's amazing how peoples perception changes with their race or if you slapped the rep or dem label on them. You could take the shittiest person and make them desirable because people are stupid.

Everyone is racist EVERYONE, at my school there were a few brawls over the years between a bunch of black and Spanish students who hated each other. But white people kinda took racism a step further by enslaving then segregating people because of race.

You are correct, but was talking in terms of the U.S.A not the world, but I would like to hear one of your examples.

Shame on him for pretending to be someone hes not, and pretending to have endorsements he didn'thave. That is deceitful and wrong.

But even more shame on the voters who elected him based on his deceit. What the fuck Houston brothas? You can't base your votes on research and facts? Are you really all that stupid?

so basically the black politician is saying "NO FAIR! NO FAIR! ONLY I CAN USE RACE TO GAIN VOTES!!"

crazy that hes basically openly admitting the black community would vote for another black man based on skin color

Some black plantation owners owned black slaves, look like that makes 2 races

Not a supported of slavery at all, just pointing the fact out

One could also argue that many Jews in ancient history enslaved other non Jews, thus making 3 or more races with slavery

greeks and romans had slaves, the chinese imperials had slaves, many island nations had slaves. Its a common human theme, owning other humans.

well the native Americans had slaves and they lived in America, so even just in the the usa it wasnt only white people with slaves

and Bryonius+ has plenty of good examples outside of america

Quoting Byronius+:

greeks and romans had slaves, the chinese imperials had slaves, many island nations had slaves. Its a common human theme, owning other humans.

Sometimes it is considered one, sometimes its not.

No clue if you polled 100 Jews at random how many of them would consider being Jewish a race.

Being a race and not a religion is probably more applicable outside the US. Especially in places where there are multiple races present the Jews actually are sort of their own thing. In the USA they are no different than any other white people.

The line between xenophobia and racism is blurry too and sometimes overlaps and sometimes doesn't. There are nationalities you can say you hate and noone will brand you racist (America, England) and nationalities you cannot say you hate without being considered racist (Mexico.)

A lot of people consider it a race. There have been some genetic studies that make people think it may be a race. Within Judaism many people consider it a "nation" which would make you think it is a race and a religion. I personally don't take offense to people believing its a race, but they obviously need to acknowledge it is a religion.

Hate to be that guy but the line between ethnic cultures which applies to religion as well in most regards and race are two completely different things. Being jewish isn't a race with genetic characteristics by a ideology based on common beliefs.

and I'm not saying that you're not right about the whoever owning slaves and what not, but at least classify it correctly. It might not be specifically racist. But racism isn't the only problem in terms of this kind of things, ie ethnic based conflict which is just as bad but is mislabeled a lot as "that's racist".

What I was saying is that there have been genetic studies that have said there is a genetic makeup to people who are born Jewish. Which would make it a race, whether it is or isn't I don't know.

http://www.haaretz.com/jewish-world/jewish-world-news/dna-links-prove-jews-are-a-race-says-genetics-expert-1.428664

I'm not saying converting to Judaism makes you a part of that race, but if you are born Jewish then maybe you are..

Its a tricky argument/debate. I think that Judaism is both a race and/or a religion.

"I don't think it's good for both democracy and the whole concept of fair play," he said

Well then maybe this is a lesson to all the voters out there that voting based on race and literally nothing else is an incredibly stupid idea. But I do love the guy who is pissed off because he fails to acknowledge anything but the guy "lying" about his race- as if race matters in any way to who the politician is.

Based. Against fair play and democracy? More like the opposite since they thought both candidates were the same race and therefore wouldn't vote based on race. And if that's what won the vote, can we start talking about anti-white racism yet? Racism has completely switched directions in the last few years.

tell me about the last time you were discriminated against because of your race. For me it was last week at a gas station. You white kids realllllyyy don't get it. The issue of allowing more minorites into colleges and jobs isnt reverse racism. No one hates you for your race, no one points it out the second they see you are a black skier, or job searcher, or college student. How many times have people said, "man, your really articulate"? That was 2 weeks ago for me.

Get back to me when someone comes up to your mom and tells her shame on her for adopting outside of her own race, while you're 10 years old and sitting right next to her. Then youll understand.

So about an hour ago I got to my college library and looked to my left and saw a mid-40s black lady in who was researching this exact subject. I showed her the article and she loved it. It's a bummer that we can't force people to prove they are qualified to vote. It's really more of a bummer so many people are not qualified to vote. This should be a lesson to do research if you're going to engage in the electoral process
