Whistler

It's a little to early for my liking. When an area usally has a big winter it usally starts when it's suppose to, mid November. Early Fall snow can sometimes be scary to me if I am planning on basing out of that area for the winter. Same thing is happening in Europe. Hope thats not the case.

so? It's sick that basically every resort in the west is getting snow, and a sing that the seasons almost here.

plus tommorow is october

but you said its good to see this snow in october. and its september, so you arent seeing this snow in october. if you see it tomorrow you will be seeing that snow in october, but it wont be this september snow because it will be fresh october snow

Children let's not fight about what month it is or what day it is or whether its good or bad that snow is coming now.....let's just all rejoice that winter is almost here and that snow is falling!!!!!! And that we only have to wait 52 more days for the official opening day of Whistler!

hey theres nice fresh october snow outside my window!

i just noticed whistler is opening on the 22nd this year. Are they going to do a tentative early opening?

isnt that around when they opend last year? i remember i was up for opening weekend and im pretty sure it was the 23rd.

Don't they decide early openings like the week before? That is my recollection.

this is going to fuck up the peak to peak construction and delay the realignment of the Catskinnger and Solarcoaster

That didn't occur to me, but now you bring it up... shit. Peak to peak gondola might look shit... like ruin the view. but whatev, you can move from one ount to another

im pissed off about this new peek gondola. you have to pay for to go on it, pretty much ruined the veiw and why not just ski down and get another run in i'd prob be just as fast if your a good skiier and not afraid to go over 30mph and the powder will be gone that much faster i could care less about the peek to peek gondola. oh and it will raise the price of everything even more

but its suposed to be a good year so im not too heated

if there was enough consistent snow they would open. the only other big problem is training everyone in time for an extra early openning. atleast thats what baker has always said.

they have construction deals until the 20th ive heard. so i dont know if it will be possible to open either moutnain earlier than the 22nd

Apparently the disadvantage is also the formation of depth hoar at the bottom of the snowpack if it doesn't keep snowing steadily. We escaped it last year though, so hopefully it'll be the same.

it's pretty much dew, occurs usually in early and late season and shallow snowpack. The dew evaporates to the top and make crystals (surface hoar), which then get covered with more snow and makes the whole shindig unstable as fuck (depth hoar).

Looks really cool though, and makes that sugary snow you can notice during dry spells.

disadvantage to what? i kinda got lost there.

I don't think depth hoar really forms inbounds. with regualr skiing, it would get crushed immediately.

unless you were referring to the BC not getting skied because of the later opening date, and this would lead to depth hoar which would be a disadvantage for us. EGAD it's like i just solved a mystery!

disadvantage to the snowpack of all the south coast mountains...which covers an area quite a bit larger than W/B. But you're right about inbounds, with bombing and all it probably doesn't survive. Still though, given the amount of traffic the whistler BC sees, it could have important consequences.
