I read in ski mag that they were connecting whistler and blackcomb, with a gondola thats going to span like 10 miles and be over 1300 feet in the air at some points....crazy....

1 of my dads friends son worked there, and he told me that they are putting it in for the Olympics

well that has been a rumor for quite some time....so lets just wait and see:)

and this one time my cousins friends cats neighbours moms cousin twice removed told me that i was pregnant....

turns out...that was just a rumour.

Fausto739, the globe and mail did an article back in october, on the possibility of a gondola linking the two mountains.

chris, be nice

I was there over winter break and I read something about this. They said it would be mainly for summer use and it would cost extra to ride it. So i guess it would be cool, but not neccessarily the best daily use.

Biggest fucking waste of money ever. They need to replace catskinner, not bother with this bullshit that no one's going to use because it costs like 10-20 extra every time you want to ride it. So many better improvements could be made.

more like 4 miles spanning the two mtns and 480ft high in the middle. It will break 2 or 3 world records though, in longest span between towers (only 4 towers total) and vertical drop.

Those might be the stats summit to summit, but not, I think, where they're actually building the gondola.

yea. just the sound of those mesurements and a gondola going across them sounds like a stupid waste of money. sounds like a billion dollars to me.

im hangin out to see the patrol do evacuation drills. anyone for a 1300 ft abseil? fuck it, just gimme a chute.

The Gondola is going to run from Rendevous to Roundhouse, about 4 miles in length with a single span of almost 3 miles. It is going to break a few word records but is also going to cost $50-60 million. It will cost extra to ride.

It's almost definately going ahead now despite so many people being against it. They have found a backer and so long as they don't drop out it will happen. Catskinner and Crystal really do need replacing and there is plenty more terrain that could be opened up with that amount of cash -- thats enough for 4 or 5 high speed quads.

Yes but if they found a backer it means that whistler/blackcomb isnt paying for it., which hopefully means that they will still do other stuff.

it will be completed by 2008 as they want it implemented before the olympics comes to down. should break a lot of records blah blah blah.
