Whistler Tire Check

I heard that occasionally there is a snow tire check on the way up to Whistler from Vancouver. How often do they do this and will they let you pass if you have 4wd but not snow tires? My vehicle has 4wd and all season tires, which I know are actually good in the snow from driving a 2wd with the same ones last winter. Will I be able to get past?

when like the extreme winter conditions or whatever they call it is in effect you are required to have tires that display the snow flake symbol or have chains i learnt the hard way, i as driving a awd touareg with all seasons and got turned around.

at the very least carry chains. If theyre checking theres probably a good reason for it... if youre going to make a lot of trips up to whis you should probably get some snow tires (studs are worth every penny too), these things save lives compared to ghetto all seasonsgotta keep in mind too that conditions change way too quick in these parts

Winters are expensive but a good investment. Remember that you will be taking your summer tires off and storing them, so they will last even longer which balances out the cost. There is really no comparison, good winters will get you through anything you'll see on a highway in BC. It's good they check in bad conditions, people without the right setup are dangerous to themselves and others, not to mention bad accidents will block the highway. I have studded winters on a FWD sedan and can get through anything assuming clearance isn't an issue (which it never is on the highway).
