Whistler pure powder ski

hey i am doing a season in whistler and i have some 178 anthems, im 6 ft and 13.8 stone ( dont know pounds) im looking for a pure powder ski and i like the looks of the hellbents , jj's , bent chetlers and the line prophets. i just want a fun ski that i wont have to lean back on so as to keep my tips from eating shit so if anyone could give me a good recomendation it will be much appreciated

The K2 Pontoons are a beast of a ski. I heard they are amazing in powder. They are just meant for massive steep and deep lines. They are more powder specific then the Hellbents. That's what I would recommend but it's all up to you. Hope this helps.

i own a pair of hellbents and they are the funnest ski i have ever used. they take a cliff and make it seem half the size. plus at the end of the day when ur going down to the base u can butter the whole run. one downside is that they are pretty heavy

helbents are a sick ski rule the pow can work the all mtn.but i think that the pontton is the ultamate pow ski it is designed like a water ski that floats on water and rules on snow... for a 100% pow ski this is what you want
but still nothing wrong with bents if you go that way

a lot of people on ns are going to recommend the bent's, which are good in a ton of pow, but are pretty useless in anything else. but take note that if you're skiing pow in a resort, you're still skiiing back to the lift, and are most likely going to be skiing a lot of tracked pow. I'd say look at the jj's, bentchetlers, s7's, or another ski that has some sidecut, and still kills it in the pow. i rode the jj's in whistler this year and i couldn't be more happy, they stomped the piss out of anything, and offered more than enough float.

so if it was between the jjs and the bent chetlers which would u go?? also would they provide enough float that u wouldent have to lean back?

you wont need to lean back on either.

The bent chetler will float better and be a bit more fun simply because its wider and softer.

these skis have pretty much identical designs as armada gave atomic the JJ design in return for factory usage. only diff is jj's will charge harder/ carve better/ and are in a better length. but of course your sacrificing float for this.

I ski JJ's at whistler and love em, but i guess bent chetlers will slay it also.

Since its a pure pow ski id say bent chetlers over JJ's but theyre both epic

thanks whistlerpow really helpfull i will most deffinatly go with the chets just wondering if you could give me any advice on sizings, im 13.6 stone and 5'11 - 6 ft would the 183s be right or other?? thanks a lots + karma

These would work great also, but they're not as good for jibbing. The 188 might also be a bteer size actually. oh and sick graphic on these next year

Bent chetlers only come in a 183 so sizing isnt really an issue. Never ridden them, but they look like a good ski.
Do you plan on skiing switch in pow? If not, the K2 pontoon is VERY hard to beat.

not at all. next year's gotama has a full rocker and is sick in pow. i rode them for 3 days at big white and silverstar and they were sick. no, they're not 130mm underfoot but they're more than enough to shred the deep stuff and make it back to the lift without torquing out your knee

The JJ's are the most confidence inspiring ski I've ever been on, pretty much the most fun u can have w/ ur pants on, do everything really well. probably ski groomed better than ur invaders on top of their out of control off trail performance. slay the piss out of heavy chop too, where the hellbents get deflected pretty hard.

If it's for powder, and only powder, i would definately go reverse/reverse. Moment Donner Parties, Armada ARG's, Praxis Pows, DPS Lotus 138, and also the Pontoons.

Okay all the skis suggested have been good. But the pontoons are what you are looking for. You can ski them in slush to 3ft of pow. Pontoons are what you want. Why do you think they rate them a 10 out of 10 in every freeskier buyers guide?

hellbents ski groomers fine. its probably one of the more versatile pow skis. as for OP, if you want something for pow only, i think benchetlers would be sick. picked up a pair the other day in the shop, they seem like a fatter version of the jjs. i think they could handle skied out stuff too, which is definitely a necessity if your only riding whis, cause stuff gets skied out so fast. i wouldnt recomend donner partys or pontoons because they seem completely disfunctional in anything but pow. look into something with at least some side cut.

Chetlers come in a 183, and "185" jjs are really 183 too. You're in whistler, so you should be getting something longer. I'm 6'1"(tried it last season, probably under 6'1" and 165ish lbs at the time) and I thought that Chetlers skied way too short, should be at least 10cm longer even if you want it as a jib ski IMO. If you're set on the skis made to go both ways, I would get 189 LL2s/One Lifes, because they're stiffer and a bit longer than most of the other skis in that category.

Hellbents are heavy(11.2lbs/pair in 179s(measure 184s), One Lifes are 9.3lbs/pair(189s)) noodles. I hated them, even in pow they weren't anything special. In park they were fun for a run or two then I got borred of them. I haven't skied my LL2s yet but I bet that them being much lighter and stiffer with a better(for park) rocker shape will make me like them a lot more. Bent's softness makes them suck at charging at speed IMO(yes you CAN do it, but that doesn't mean there aren't a ton of other better skis, even some similar to that shape). If you get bents(but don't) the only length to even consider is 189s, if you like heavy noodles.

If you want the best powder skis the only way to go is reverse sidecut though. I didn't get ARGs or Donner Parties when I had the chance because I wanted something longer. Then there was a pair of 202 DPS Lotus 138s(07/08s, they've even been improved since) for sale cheap and I had to buy them(they have a flat sidecut spot underfoot which I thought would even make them better in pow, and are 9.2 or 9.3lbs a pair cause of the carbon fiber). I skied them my first time at Stevens yesterday, and they did great everywhere to my surprise. On groomers theywere actually a ton of fun, and not hard to ski at all. I didn't have any speed trouble on cat tracks that some people complain about(maby just a bit more effort needed) and in spaced out moguls they were easy to ski smearing side to side, no problems. In crud and freshly made powder bumps they charge harder than any other ski I've been on and don't get thrown around at all. And obviously in pow they were amazing, much better than any other ski I've mentioned skiing. If you don't know Stevens, we have a lot of tree skiing and the 202s were easy in trees... and were easy to ski fast in tight spaces. They do even better at steep cliffy areas and drops, which you should be doing if you're living near Whistler. They're like $1200 new, but now there is a bamboo/glass/carbon hybrid(a bit heavier, same shape) or something like that for only $800. Get them, no other ski will compare(I didn't get Praxis Pows because the high angle tip curve at the end(like bents) I thought wouldn't do as well in crud and that's what some people have said.)

My hellbents are amazing, you cant sink them. Pontoons would be even better if you dont plan on skiing switch. Also check out the ARGs

Sorry bout the double post, but also check out the Moment Donner Party-seems like the most pow specific ski out there.

what the fuck is 13.8 stone?

where are you from? thats not metric or american... do you get like weighed against stones?

freeskier buyers guide is bullshit. freeskier gets payed off. Why do you think that same skis have different rating every year? like bacons for example

this thread is so full of fail, misinformation, and bias.

what kind of skiing do you do? do you want to ride switch in pow? do you like to charge? or do you like to play around in the pow?

because suggesting skis like the lotus/pontoon vs hellbent/s7/jj is so completely different. stop misinforming this man.

either way, at your size you should have something around the 190 length. answer the questions above, then more ACCURATE suggestions can be made.

your going to have a blast this year, whistler is badass

Not for what he's looking for; I agree they're bomb skis but because the tail is a lot smaller its probably not as good as you think for big drops and switch especially
