Whistler Park 2013?

Sorry I'm a bit out of the loop this time of the year. Can anyone clarify what the deal is with the Whistler park this year? I've heard rumours that its gone now so Emerald is more of a family chair. But I haven't heard anything official. And the blue and back park are looking really sick this year, but I just loved having the long laps and creative jibs on Whis. Anyone care to enlighten me?

I have a theory.

They are shrinking whistler park, not obliterating it.

As far as I can see, they still have 'park' signs near the Peak2Peak tower.

Also, they have moved the fencing down further from the top of Emerald, compared to last year.

It seems they're making the park 1 or 2 rail features shorter, which isn't the end of the world.

With the current set-up still continuing down the same run as last year, it doesn't seem like much has changed.

People are just unobservant and need something to worry about. (haha)

The only thing I can think of that they would also remove is the 2nd jump line, which used to split into it's own path, away from the chairlift. If they ARE shrinking the park, that's about all they would remove. And even still, that line wasn't even good compared to the main run.

Ya if they ditch the top jump im ok with that, it was always icy landing from so much traffic so I never really tried much out of my comfort zone on it.

I feel the same way I'm always scared I'm going to last on someone because I've seen it on multiple occasions

I'm working on park crew on bcomb this year and here's whats going on with whis park: its not going to be gone, its not even going to be shrunken in actual size of the park, just the features themselves are going to be more mellow. no gap in down rails, no giant kinks, no jumps over 35-40 feet. apparently the guy running the show over there loves skatepark style features, rails into banks lots of that kinda stuff, so thats what you can expect this season.

sick! that is one of the reasons i love the whistler park. you just cross the peak to peak and it feels like you are shredding a park at a completely different resort. And we've got the big stuff on bcomb, so whistler might as well focus on making the creative features.

yea i think this is better, i never liked how you could only either ski medium sized or xl stuff on b comb, without much in between.

Volunteering on the mountain and heard their making lower emerald into "The Schoolyard." Pretty much just jibs and small features. Any truth park boys?

^ they had some small jibs and jumps to the left side of the whistler park last year, is that what you're referring too?

Not quite. They never have anything put down here but I believe its Lower Jolly Green. Like right below the lift at the bottom. They put up a new wooden arch way above it.

My bosses words: "The might put in a small jib park to attract people to Snowboard School due to lack of sales and decline in interest in snowboarding." I think its pretty dumb but what ever they gotta do what they gotta do.

So far whis park is pretty mellow, nothing big maybe a 15 ft jump followed by a ten ft jump then just jibs, nothing too unusual pretty normal.

Blackcomb park is gonna be great, blue park is looking really good this year. I'm kind of sad they got rid of the HL pass, anytime I go up catskinner I see a group of gapers going off the side of jumps and standing on the landings. Atleast you need a helmet for leftside.

Yeah, the last two seasons I much preferred lapping Whis park to lapping Blackcomb. We'll see how this actually turns out. I thought the jump line on Whis park was pretty damn good as it was. I wouldn't mind eliminating the first jump, or even the second one as well from the top. The first one was almost never really worth hitting and the second one had too much traffic.

Frosty The SnowPark[/b]

Frosty the snowpark was a jolly happy place,

With a super pipe and a snowcross track

And two jump lines made of snow.

Frosty the snowpark is a fairy tale, they say,

It was made of snow but the children

Know how it came to life one day.

There must have been some magic in that

New snow cat they found.

For when they placed it in the Park

It began to dance around.

O, Frosty the snowpark

Was as rad as it could be,

And the children say they could shred

all day just the same as you and me.

jumpetty jump jump,

jumpety jump jump,

Look at Frosty's GoPro.

jumpetty jump jump,

jumpety jump jump,

Over the tilled up snow.

Have a great Alldenominational Festivus! We have been blowing tons of snow and farming the natural in all the places we can in order to ramp up the Parks for the Holidays. Our build plan has us opening the 22' Global Pipe for the first week of January. The Terrain Garden is scheduled for the week of December 17th and Whistler Park expansion is happening all this week and next. The Snowcross track, comes on line in mid-January once we are complete with snowmaking in the pipe and HL Park. At the moment we have over 50 features on the ground with more dropping daily. The jump offering right now includes everything from 10' minis to 50' and 60' pro-line XL booters.

We also kick off our Park Rider Sessions comps this weekend with the "All Rounder Jam" on Sunday the 15th. This event sees riders session a hip, rail / box and Medium jump in order to show all around prowess on freestyle features. Later in the month (Dec 30th) we will be releasing the Groms with the U14 Slopestyle event for skiers and riders. Expect a fun mini Slopestyle course with pint sized features for the future slayers of Park. King of the Rail also returns that same evening for a night jam session under the lights at the bottom of Whistler.

Hope everyone was a mix of naughty with enough nice to keep you from being scratched off the list.

If you have an idea that you would like to see come to life, draw it up and send it to us via Twitter@whistlerparks and we may be able to turn your dream into a reality. See you in the Park. BF

I did not know this and I hit the left line yesterday without a helmet on and none of the park guys said anything to me. Inb4 gaper deaths,

I'm kinda bummed they got rid of the HL pass just because that was the only place where there were no joeys or snakes. Hopefully people are still going to respectful on the big jumps without the pass.
