what does this mean for next summer?

This rant has brought to you in part by the Gomer corporation. Bringing you quality bablings since January.

Ok SkiBum: do you think that whistler is like utopia or something? I don't think so. Don't get me wrong Whistler is a great place to ski but there is more to life than just skiing (like paying for rent, and food, and other essentials). Craig is right, the public park on the glacier sucks this year.

Anyways, I would hate to have come all the way to Whistler for this event and have it be cancelled. There is no reason that this event should be cancelled, Insurance should have been worked out way ahead of time. It's totally irresponsible not to mention lazy.

Well that's my rant for now.

great I'm glad your all turning this post around to another topic. The point is, I've heard that shance didn't even have insurance on his camp all along. so this is why it didn't go around. I don't know the full details though. but really it boils down to intrawest just not being able to handle any other lawsuit and thus cutting all their shit back. THey don't care if they have the best park anymore, they just c are about developing all the land property that they own. not that it's theior fault, they are a business and businesses are meant to make money. The sad part is, qhistler used to be this absiolutely killer place. it still is if you wanna party, but it's losing it's reputation for best skiing everywhere quickley.

I totally agree with what Reedy has just said regarding Inratwest. The fact is that High North hasn't had insurance since late June is no ones fault except for it's owner. It doesn't really matter at this point that Intrawest is only in it for the money. It was High North's responsibility to get insurance and they fucked up. that's all there is to it.

intrawest is a bunch of faggots. mammoth is also owned by intrawest, homos. there one of the top ten most profitable organizations in the country, and the dont have the money to pay the damn insurance. what fuckin jackasses, they just dont want to pay it so that they can build some more condos.

wasnt it szocs' fault for High North getting shut down? intrawest just found out about the no insurance deal and didnt want any lawsuit getting back to them so they closed it down since high north and the open were both held on their land. so really its all szocs' fault and intrawest was just trying to keep their ass from getting wet.

Yeah intrawest is DEFINITELY insured.

Its really unfortunate. like reedy and chris said...it really shouldnt have happen, hey other camps are doing just fine yah kno...I feel veyr bad for the people that paid some mad cash to come out here for this.

listen, dont complain about intrawest. at least you arent owned by a company that is almost bankrupt and gonna get their asses hung out to dry by the SEC.

yeah I got stock in intrawest and it has always been great until you guys started badmouthing them in the last couple days . . . coincidence? I think not

Well there's nothing wrong with Intrawest. and it hasn't been the past couple days, all you here around this place is people yipping Intrawest. MAny of them uninformed people, but there has still been a hate for 'the man'.

Intrawest is a business interested in making money. Beleive it or not, we are a minority and we don't need to be catered too as far as parks go. They do it because there are a few cool people running things. not because they have to, they don't, they have the best natural terrain around. Bottom line is, capatalism is not always going to be in your favour. until whistler gets a bad rep or starts to lose it's dominant number 1 status, they will keep cutting and downgrading and raising profit wherever they can. it's simply logical business.

seems that there is a little confusion with what insurance really covers. I ran a few events so this is from experiance. When you get insurance it isn't to cover the campers or competitors. You do sign a waver for a reason. You might also remember giving the camp your health insurance information for the slight chance that you got hurt.

At events you sign wavers as well, the insurance is for the spectators and property of the hill. If I'm standing around watching the whistler open and someone's ski flys off and gets me giving me 20 stiches or something like that. The insurance will pay for that (or part of it) if I were to sue the event cordinator, competitors and what not. So shane not having insurance probably didn't close down camp but I'm sure that intrawest wasn't going to take the chance of some onlooker. Does suck that he couldn't get an insurance deal nailed down. All of the companies are still reeling after sept. 11. They all had to pay out so much money that the higher risk happenings are harder to get insurance for.

a few thing sbout insureance... the waver that you sign is not all legal binding you can always find a lawyer who will try to break and wording in a court... and alot of the reason that all the insuance has gone up expecialy at ski places is that 9-11 37 insurance companys were directly conected to the world trade in insuring it and almost every other company had some tie to one or more of the 37... thus almost all the insurance went up to pay off this HUGE claim... i know for a fact that most 'extream' sport insurance like rafting, skiing, etc. their insurance went up over 40%... I could go on forever bout this but if you want to know more bout it just message me

Jack Black: This is the last time Tenecious D will rock the house... after a Tenecious D dive I broke my spine and the heroin and crack are getting to me, so after the concert I'm going to jump off the Gorge. But don't worry we already have 3 albums recorded, 5 music videos, and 3 full movies recorded and in the can... the D will rock on with out us

Crowd: huge cheers

Kyle: Why are they cheering?

Jack Black: because that’s fucking hardcore!

yeah the whole insurance thing is fucking up skiing in australia too, they cant make the parks very big cos people sued them bigtime last yeAR, this country is getting gay, we now have the 2nd worse litigation after the US, why are people gay like that is is making skiing so gay.

Prins, what are you talking about??? Yes, insurance also covers spectators to a certain extent, which is also dependent on circumstances, but the main reason for insurance IS the competitors! That's where almost ALL of the risk is! Why do you think terrain parks are on such thin ice right now?

Secondly, one of the biggest reasons insurance is becoming less affordable is because of the raise in deductables. Unless the resort is being sued for over something like $250,000 they can't make a claim, so that comes out of their pocket.

In the case of High North not having insurance, Intrawest didn't want to take the fall for someone getting hurt at the comp, and therefore had to shut them down. Camp of Champs offered to host the event but the gesture was declined, hence no Whistler Open.

Finally, the insurance companies aren't to blame for all of this. It's people who aren't willing to take responsibility for their own actions! So I'd like to take this moment to thank all of the fuckups who wreck themselves and sue other people for their mistakes! Thanks for spoiling it for the rest of us!

spoken from the master. basically, shane dropped the ball. and EVEN WORSE is the fact that he's not humble enough to take up COC's offer and then therefore screw two people out of an X games oppourtunity. COC's jumps are better anyway, shane is definately on my list of people who smoke mad pole.

the whole freeride team from waterville stayed out an extra week for the open, the head coach of the camp let us have the lane and a house for the extra week, and the day of registration we were the first ones down to sign up...

and the day the open was suppossed to happen was crappy too

I was just in whistler this past week at High North Ski Camp. I though the whole situation was really fucked up, but at the same time I have to give Shane credit for still making camp fun even without the open.

fuck that, shane deserves no credit. he shit the bed, don't feel sorry for him.

The whole insurance thing, i think, starts with us (society,) at least as far as liability goes. So dont blame High North. Blame us - a bunch of pussies (and i dont really mean people on here) that cant take responsibility for our own dumb actions and arent willing to accept the fact that risks are a part of life and should be dealt with. Instead its blame someone else and make easy money off of them. So in the end its our fault. Sluts.

yah well it's a theory that would seem to make sense. but in the american society, time off work, hospital bills, etc... all cost money. so since it does, insurance is quite key.

Maybe insurance is too big of a deal in society but guess what... that's the way it is so deal with it.

I'm glad that Jodi got her point across because it's the truth. I just don't know why people are so hesitant to put the blame on Shane. It's 100% his fault that the Whistler Open didn't happen and that half of an entire session was ruined. Sure I think Shane is an awesome skier and he's done a ton for the sport but that doesn't change the fact that he made an incredibly bad decision in not renewing insurance for his camp. Intrawest had no choice but to shut down the camp and anyone that would put the blame on the mountain has their head up their ass.

I guess the point is, no matter how much we all love skiing, it is a business and people need to remember that at all times.

Ya, but its not they way it has to be. If we would just let everything be the way the are, then we wouldnt get very far. And until it affects me directly then i can deal with it anyway. Besides it should never even have gotten to this point to begin with. Soon we will all just live in a bubble and have to walk with a helmet on in a protective suit. Ya never know eh bitches.
