In addition to the new superpipe at Base II on Blackcomb, Whistler/Blackcomb is finally opening the new runs below Bagel Bowl on Whistler, the new peak to creek runs, as well as opening Flute Bowl.

This is part of a 14.2 million dollar expansion that will also see improvements and additions to terrain parks on both mountains.

The addition of the new peak to creek runs and Flute bowl will increase Whistler/Blackcomb's total skiable area to 8098 acres, 16% more than the current 6998.

Its gonna be sick.

all they are doing is making the ski area boundary bigger. there will be no new lifts servicing those areas.

i dont understand what the big deal about the expansion is. They arent doing any more lifts kids! The only difference is that all those areas will be 'in bounds' because all they have done is moved those ski area boundary signs further out.

Regardless the ski area is stil 16% bigger for a vast majority of the people who dont ski out of bounds. So I mean it is a somewhat big deal ace of spades

its there for night skiing. they already have it dug out for next year. We were listening in on thier radios, and they are using lasers!

the hole thing is just one big marketing sceme to make thim look bigger than other resorts, its not going to change anything really expect maybe bring more tourists into the backcountry where they don't belong, Whistler suffered huge this year as they had a really low number of skiers this year they had to do something to get more numbers for next year

Remember: Opening new terrain without opening a new lift isn't 'stupid', it's actually pretty cool. It brings what used to be out of bounds terrain used by a significant amount of people without beacons, probes, etc, into the area bombed by W/B avie patrol. Basically, it keeps us safer. That doesn't suck. And no new lifts means that getting to it will be just as difficult as it was last season, thereby keeping most of the tourists out. At least the ones that suck.

the peak to creek runs are being summer gromed to get rid of all the stumps and stuff. Those stumps and natrual features made that run really fun with lots of cool drops and stuff. But at the same time, every year we get less and less snow, and so those runs wouldnt be able to open untill like february, so the summer grooming is good in away, so that they can open earlier.

the new pipe is going to be lit, and it may get a lift. As for the expansion, it doesnt need lifts, as its all those closed runs that have been cut out a long ass-time ago, but they never opened it...it will be either ski-outable, or a lift will already be serving it...oh, and this is old news.. :-p
