ok me and some friends are planning on goin to whistler this summer for a month, and we just found out that the lifts to the glacier only opens to the public at 11 and closes at 3. for camps and stuff, apparently it opens at 7. now it takes almost an hour up to the glacier, so that leaves close to 3 hours of skiing. i was wondering if anybody knew a way to get around this?

you could walk up. hahaha

wow good observation! You are officaily the new ns genious. You can pick up your award after I shove it up your ass. - Phrosty

ok newschoolers is gay. they delete my messages and my pictures and my videos. i dont know what the hell is wrong with them. dont they know that they are ruining my hopes and dreams. i had really good pictures posted and they delted all of them. they were really good almost as good as the pros. but the thing i cant understand is why they delete my good pics but keep the really crappy ones. it really saddens me to the point in which i would like to cry. also they always delte my videos. i have really good ones, much better than anyone elses and they delte them. i think its because they dont want me to embarrese the other members. newschoolers also deltes my good messages. they unlike others create conflict whichis good. but since new schoolers is gay they delete them. I haven't tried it, but it seems like it'd be pretty damn hard. And even if you do get up there and ride before the glacier even opens, patrol and staff will be on you like white on rice, and you'll get booted off the mtn faster than you can say 'please let me stay'.

how much is a lift ticket , because if its for 3 hours and it smad expensive you should be upset

*****-CCR-*****

the glacier IS open at that time, the only way they would know you arent from a camp would be to see the little print on your ticket saying public rather than 'high north' or whatever... the chances of them randomly stopping you and looking at your pass while you are skiing is slim to none, its all about the first lift up, i know they scan tickets, it just depends if they give a shit if you dont have a camp one...

they can set their scanners to only let up people with camp tickets, and also the ticket windows aren't open that early, so they would probably notice. your best bet would be to make some kind of deal with a camp. also on the glacier, lanes are rented out in the morning, and if you aren't part of a camp you're pretty much out of luck.

if your planning on buying day passes for a month plus lodge and food your fucked.....

Not only are the tickets specifically printed to say which camp you are with, but its also the senior management team and marketing staff that are out validating every morning, and believe me, they care. What do you think would happen if you asked the senior VP of Marketing if $50 would get you up earlier. I don't think you would be skiing here again very soon.

You are all right though, skiing for 3 hours is not a lot of time, you should stay at home at your own hill. Oh wait...its not open in July though is it?

Any ticket other than a camp ticket is not going to get you up before 11, and no glacier camp ticket is going to get you up after 11.

The rules are tight for a reason. You think the camps want you poaching the space that they pay a lot of money for, taking up space that their paying campers should be using? Believe me, they care about that. I talk to them about it every day.

linesucks, the reason all your shit got deleted is cause you just posted it all from freeze, except if in some off chance you took those photos...

if you are skiing everyday for a month, 3 hours is plenty, just sleep in

Dont get gloves though, gloves are out. just use a cigarette to keep your hands warm.

^yes really, especially when there are only a couple rails and a hip (unless you get into a camp).

There are a lot of people on this forum who:

#1 - take it up the ass from corporations

and

#2 - enjoy it

AND

#3 - DEFEND the greedy ass-raping corporation as if they are right to do it.

WTF?

-m

Well, some of us actually work for said corporation, and have a bit better an idea of how things go on than you do. Maybe you have something else insightful to add?

And explain the taking it up the ass part? Is someone holding a gun to your head and saying, 'SKI YOU BASTARD, PAY ME YOUR MONEY TO SKI!'? You got forced into this?

Yes, there are a couple of legitimate beefs around in other threads right now, but whinging because the lifts only open at 11? Because (oh my god) you have to PAY to ride the lifts and use the terrain that cost lots of money to make and maintain for you?

Please...

Intrawest overcharges people for services provided to make up costs for other services they provide to other users.

When I pay for a service I have no problem with that. When I am overcharged for a service I am getting because the company can't make ends meet elsewhere, is mismanaged, or is just greedy (all three of these apply to intrawest), I call that being assraped. And I will not take it idly.

I also work for an enormous corporation. While not perfect, it doesn't charge people using one service more because the company needs to recover funds from other projects that ran a loss...

When I go skiing, I don't want to pay to build the golf course. I want to pay for the costs associated with skiing - operating the lifts, staff, cafeterias, environmental fees, etc... Every resort operated by Intrawest charges an arm and a leg more than other comparable ski resorts...

-m

First of all, all the resorts are their own Profit and Loss centers; they operate as their own companies with thier own books, so your lift tickets are not paying for golf courses. The profits from one resort may make the overall business look better in order to gain better credit, but that is as far as it goes. If you want to go down that road though, its the real estate arm of Intrawest, the Resort Development Group that is paying the bill on everything. You think your burgers and tickets are paying for a golf course in Vegas? Get real, its the Real Estate Development that is paying the bills.

And which resorts are you comparing? Whistler is cheaper for basic lift tickets than Vail and Aspen, and not that far off from lots of other resorts that have WAY less to offer.

Again - no one is forcing you though.

guys, guys hahaha. this is turning into a big argument and stuff over a little problem i was barely 'whining' about. i am down with spending 350 to ride the summer, that is an absolutely amazing price for summer skiing. i just kinda hoped since it was summer and it's bright till like 9 that we'd be able to ride till around 4 or 5. and also, maybe go up in the morning not even to hit the camps park, but to just ski around or whatever and get warmed up and awake. they probably close the lifts a little later then they say anyways, and ya, 3 hours every day for a month is so much better then what i would get in stupid ottawa(none).

^^thank you i realize that they dont let the public up so not everyone poaches, but just to let you know I did go to camp, and yeah its a shitload of money so know how it works...

BUT the other thing is that the only way they possibly can stop me from poaching is not letting me up earlier, and i am trying to figure out a way around that...
