Whistler Blackcomb Completely bans smoking

So, I just recently found out Whistler is banning smoking. Not only Smoking cigarettes, but they are also banning e-Cigarettes, and smoking marijuana. I don't know exactly how people might feel about this though. I get why they would ban cigarettes, but is this taking it too far all in one step? Will this effect you wanting to go and ski whistler?

Personally I don't think it's really that big of a deal, but I could see some people really pissed off about this if they start to strictly enforce it by handing out fines or whatever.

I feel I should clarify that the ban is only the resort portion, and not the entire town.
 
If you can't wait til you get off the mountain to have a cigarette then you're a tosser. Seriously, stop throwing your cigarette butts off chairs and damaging the environment. Plus the mountain doesn't belong to you, if someone doesn't like smelling cigarette smoke, don't smoke around them and move.

Doesn't really bother me. I'm not exactly fond of people smoking around me on the lift and stuff like that. I'd imagine doing this will help to clean up a bit too.

Excuse my ignorance, but is marijuana legal there to begin with? If not, not allowing people to smoke weed would be well within their right.

i was going to say thats bs but if it's not the whole town whatever. Just find somewhere out of the way to smoke, if you don't do that anyways you're probably retarded.
 
This won't deter me at all from skiing there. I would rather not have someone smoking near me or littering their butts everywhere anyway.

BUT any responsible cig smoker keeps their butts when they arent in a city or any generally shitty place

if you aint throwin butts no one should give no fuks
 
I'm all for banning E cigarettes. Just because it's the trashiest invention since those balls that hang off of the back of pickup trucks.

That and keeping the smoke out of peoples face. It's important to realize that while some just don't like smoke being blown at them, others are physically effected by cigaret smoke. I have really bad asthma to the point where if someone is smoking close to me (within 5 feet) I normally have to use my inhaler. And while most of the time it isn't an issue on the ground, it is a huge issue on chairlifts and in smaller buildings. Albuterol is not cheap either.

for that exact reason people cud have asthma or any other respiratory problem

still not something you can effectively make illegal

in AMERICUHH we can give ourselves these respiratory problems if we choose to!

it's not legal, but it's decriminalized and tolerated a lot more than in most decriminalized areas i believe.

but really this is not a big deal. hop into the woods and smoke your j. it's more relaxing that way anyways.

I've met exactly 0 people who do this. I don't ski around with an ashtray in my pocket generally, and I don't intend to.

Although I will put it out and wait until I see a garbage can if i'm on the lift smoking.

that or put it out and then put the butt back into your packet. Butts aren't biodegradable but your ash really makes no difference as it'll wash away within a second
 
I'm down. After my head injury I'm allergic to that. I get gnarly headaches when I'm around people smoking.

Should be able to smoke the green stuff though. That really doesn't bother anyone unless people are being dicks about it.

With cig people act as though it doesn't bother anyone else and it's their right to do what ever they want which is bullshit. Some people are considerate about smoking, many people are not. Hell in states where they banned smoking inside people through a fit. It's the best thing ever. IF you can't walk outside to smoke fuck you. Even the non smoking sections of restaurants were smoked out. Nothing like sitting in a room that's sealed with a bunch of chain smoking assholes.

The won't get rid of smoking but I really don't mind this trend at all. Smoking sucks anyway.

its not legal there but get on nearly any lift and you will smell it
 
vaporizers though? it's just vapor, no one's going to have an asthma attack. plus you're not going to be throwing your $200 setup on the slopes somewhere, there's really no risk of litter and environmental impacts because of it
 
safety meetings in the woods are much better anyways, Im sure whistler locals all have their go-to smoke spots and stashes. not that hard to figure out.
 
In my experience most resorts ban smoking, especially since a lot of resorts are located at least partially on national forest land and prohibition is still in full effect at the federal level. That being said you have to be a moron to get caught. Just don't be stupid about where you smoke.

my guess is they did e cigs as well so if someone is vaping on a lift or wherever, and staff sees clouds then they don't have to prove weather it was a cig or an e cig.
 
I don't know about this ... I understand the premise, but like, this includes employees... So, right now, if you smoke cigarettes and you work at Whistler Blackcomb, you have a year to quit smoking or find another job.

And, I don't think that it should be considered legit to smoke weed on the resort property but not cigarettes... If you do either/both with discretion no one should get salty.

Well if people would be considerate of other people it wouldn't be a problem, unfortunately a lot of people aren't and ruin it for the people who are.

Smoking in crowded lift lines next to kids, stuff like that. People don't give a fuck. "Oh my cigarette doesn't bother anyone even if I'm blowing the smoke in their face" or the " I don't even give a fuck type people".

A little bit surprised but there has def been a move in this direction. I'm generally against more rules but I've seem some fucking douches with cigs so I really don't care.

Hahaha tobacco ruins your good bud, spliffs got my whole house addicted to tobacco. I strait up quit. I don't smoke any tobacco anymore unless a good looking girl offers me a dank spliff.

My roommate is addicted to smoking spliffs and wont smoke tobacco by its self.

Best way to not get addicted is to never start smoking it in the first place.

In whistler I don't even care Ill smoke my weed and Ill pay the ticket if they can catch me

Very true. I don't agree with the law....I think you should be able to do what you want if you are curteos and discrete about it.

Sadly some people are neither of those and they are the reason for this law.

whis is private property and they're free to do as they'd like

they want whis to continue to be a world class resort, and not having every gondola stink like weed would be an awesome place to start and good business decision for incoming families/people who actually spend money

if you're too addicted to be able to wait until you're off the slopes, or at least find somewhere discrete in 1200 acres of land then that's just sad

there was already no smoking on the lifts, and weed was already banned
