Whister Park Ideas

I don't know about the rest of you, but I think Whislter's park (well Blackcombs actually) has fallen behind as compared with Snow Summit, Mammoth and the like.

What do you think about new ideas and/or expansion on to neighbouring runs?

Ok, it may be lagging behind mamoth, but they have like the best park in the world pretty much. You have to look who you are comparing it to. Yeah Whistler-Blackcomb wants to be at teh top of the industry, and they are...they just aren't number 1, i think the last ranking in Freeze had their park ranked 3rd or so. So don't complain too much. Whistler awesome, and isn't just a terrain park, there's more stuff to do there. Unlike a lot of resorts that have sweet parks such as Breckenridge. Theres not nearly the vertical, or the extreme terrain as whistler.

Don't get me wrong, Whistler has lots of other shit to do. Its pretty much to only place I ski, but they have the resources to become have the best park as well, and I wonder why they don't try to.

I'd like to see them expand onto the lower half of the black Catskinner run more, and make an advanced rail park.

I'd like it if tthey expanded the hut jump about 50 ft.

and called it the showcase booter.... ya a nice 90ftt would do it, then there wouldn't be as many people, clearing it to the flatts by about 30ft, and breaking them selfs

yea....

The bottom line is, whistler - blackcomb and Intrawest in Canada do not make their money off of our group of skiers or snowboarders for that matter. The group of people that spend the most money per day of staying here are the recreational vacationers...and americans because of the dollar. The need for their to be short lift lines, well groomed runs and relatively dope inbounds steeps is their focus and for a good reason. Mammoth has a different group of people there and realisticly the difference is that there are different people running it. Whistler takes the conservative route because they don't really want to deal with lawsuits. Mammoth takes the progressive route because of the athletes in the area and because realisticly they don't have the in bounds goods that whistler does...get yourself a sled and head out to some of the mountains in the area and we got a diffrent story though...money money money

I was reading in the Vancouver Province newspaper about whistler's new shit for this year's season. They didn't really get much, their biggest purchase was a whole bunch of nwe grooming equipment, so that they can groom over all the bowls and amke it easier for intermediates to ski the bowls, and other terrain that was not open for intermediate skiers before. Sounds shitty, but the article also said that they are putting a lot of money int thier park this year, to get more rails, bigger jumps etc etc. I'm not sure how more money can buy bigger jumps, but at least it promises something.

Well said Reedy. That's pretty much bang on as far as I know. Things are getting better though. We've got a lot more support from the Mtn managers now. I think they put $15,000 into rails this year. There's a new rainbow C rail, a long ass kinked rail, a rounded triangle, a couple new trapezoids, boxes and flatbars. The jumps will be progressive this year with multiple takeoffs and jump sizes. There will also be a green park on Big Easy with a double half pipe divided by a spine running through the center of them! Personally, I think they're really stepping it up this year. Even though they aren't known to be #1, the difference between #1 and #5 is tiny.
