This is happening.

The US House of Representatives quietly passed a last-minute addition to

the Agricultural Appropriations Bill for 2013 last week - including a

provision protecting genetically modified seeds from litigation in the

face of health risks.

Haven't read it yet, but I can imagine what it's like if it involves Monsanto. So glad I don't have to deal with that shit in the UK ... yet
 
well youre a dumbass if you think thats what he was saying. Its quite obvious that he was saying that the media needs to focus on things that could have drastic consequences and not just whats trending in our social lives.
 
Sorry if my terminology was misleading, but I assure you I was not accusing gay people for casing the distraction, or however you took this.

I was merely pointing out how while the Prop 8 business is being perpetuated on the news, shit like this is being passed, essentially rendering Mansanto invincible to litigation when we find out that their GMO bullshit is rendering us unable to have children, or whatever else may be a result.

 
While I'm not speaking about Monsanto, or this bill specifically, you do realize that all genetically modified food is not bad, and may eventually be the only way the human race survives in the future. While we in America can't really visualize it, the world as a whole is overpopulated at this very moment. Engineering food will allow us to design crops with bigger yields, that resist environmental forces such as drought, insects, etc, and be grown in non-traditional locations. This will in turn allow more people to eat, and thus survive.

Blatantly dismissing the benefits of science in regards to food is ignorant, and I'm sick of seeing people that don't really understand the concept post on the issue.

This was a rant and not necessarily addressed at the OP, but I had to type it somewhere.
 
GMOs can and have been extremely useful, but that doesn't mean giants like Monsanto should be above the law. Look up veggie libel and you'll start to get an idea of what this organization is trying to do.
 
Im an Agricultural and Biological Engineering student at the #1 agriculture engineering school in the nation (also around 5th overall engineering).

People who dont support GMOs tend to have no idea what they are talking about. When I was younger I really wanted to become a genetic engineer but not anymore due to the legality always being questionable.

GM crops and livestock are revolutionizing the farm industry. Sure you may doubt doubt it at the moment, but we need to start somewhere, all these restrictions dont help either. There is no proof of negative GMO side effects on a human. I've written an unreal amount of research papers on the topic so I am relatively well versed in the subject.

People need to realize once GM Agr is widely accepted we can start making REAL advancements in human gene modification. Thats where it gets super interesting and even more conflictual. Can you imagine not having to worry about genetic diseases like autism and downs ever again? Or curing AIDS? I mean fuck, theres even potential for things like extended breath holding (think 10 minutes+) and super strength

Not tryna bash anyone or anything with all that.

If anyone cares to further discuss GMOs, the safety of them or has any general questions about them Ill do my best to answer.

and to OP, the reason the news isnt reporting it is because the 'News' is actually a 'NEWS COMPANY' whos goal it is so make MONEY. and nobody gives a fuck about this in relation to gay marriage. so theyre not going to report it.
