My opinion is that: unless he only skis rails, or is a beginner and wants a price point ski to destroy then the troublemaker is a "better" ski. As a general rule, skis that were originally top of the line are better constructed and more durable than those that were the companies price point offering. The trouble maker is actually a pretty solid, durable all round park ski. In terms of budget, the skis he mentioned are all the same price (give or take) on evo gear. I agree that there is no rule the states that the more expensive ski is necessarily better, but like with bindings, it is a good guideline. The trouble maker is the 'comparable' ski in the market to last years Rossi Scratch Ghetto. I am not saying that regardless of his ability, skiing style and preferences that the Troublemaker is always better. But with no information, for 80% of cases I would say the trouble maker is a better ski. I would argue it will be the best on piste, the best all mountain and the best on jumps. If he wants a centre mount rail ski, i would get the ledges, otherwise I'd get TMs.
