Select from one of the three questions to consider when writing for this assignment:

1. Discuss the character of Romeo and his infatuation with Rosaline. Does this weaken the credibility of the love he feels for Juliet? Explain with examples from the text and insights gathered through discussion.

2. 2. Examine the role of women in Romeo and Juliet. What inferences can be made about relationships? How does this portrayal of women still contribute towards ideas of a universal story?

3. Many references are made to time in the play. Discuss the passage of time throughout Romeo and Juliet. Why does Shakespeare make time such an important role? How does this expose the real meaning underneath star crossed and pre-destined lovers?

4. Examine the role of men in the play. Different characters depict various perspectives of a young man through adulthood. How does this portrayal of men still contribute towards ideas of a universal story?

i think 1 or 4 would be easiest, but maybe a fellow NSer has had a similar essay and can help with some pointers or parts of the book that are easy to expand on, its due fri so i have time

definitely 1, just talk about how romeo doesn't fit the tragic hero role, is a weak character, he falls in love with the first girl he sees, the story does not accurately depict "true love", etc.

make your own, about how it wouldve been differnt if juliet had a sassy gay friend, kinda like this, only not hamlet.

you said pick one of three topics but then listed 4

this just happened

thanks

how long does it have to be?

If it's not too long I'd go with number 1 because its the most direct. If it's longer I'd go with 4 because it lends itself to a very clear organization (ie, list characters, explore characters one by one and then discuss in general)

1 for sure. Attack Romeo's credibility, and then pick him apart with examples of being nothing more than a love crazed teenager. You could write 10 pages easily.

2 or 4 because you can bring in outside sources that have nothing to do with the book as a way of helping to explain your point about the roles of men/women. Therefore you have more subject matter = easier writing. In fact you could likely write either of those essays without actually having read Romeo and Juliet, I know I could.
