Which Military Branch?

Well im at the middle of my Senior year in high school. And ive been somewhat interested in joining the military, pretty much only because its a job that will pay me and will pay for my schooling. Ive been talking to a Marine recruiter on the phone and in person and he took me out to eat the other night..but i just dont really like the way the Marines attitude is. I dont know how many newschoolers know about the military but i was just wondering which branch you guys would recomend looking into. Im looking to become a police officer after i get out, and im looking to get my college paid for. I got a 23 on my ACT, but my GPA is about 1.6 right now.
 
I am not in the military but will hopefully enlist next summer. I have researched extensively about the military. I have come to discover that which branch you want depends on not only what type of job you want but if you want Active Duty or Reserves. What i have learned is Air Force for Active Duty and Army for Reserves. Navy from what I've read is boring and repetitive. Another thing i have read is that most people don't like being on a boat for 6 months to a year at a time. Unless you are truly passionate about boats don't go navy. Air Force has the greatest opportunity for schooling with their own Air Force community College that you are admitted to if you want once you complete Basic Training. Have any questions feel free to ask im not an expert but i hope i can be of service
 
All depends on what career you want. Im in AF ROTC and am still trying to decide whether or not I want to do Marine OCS or not. If you're going ROTC I'd say go the air force cause it has a lot of educational opportunities and depending on what school you decide to go to it's pretty easy to get a scholarship.
 
If your going to join the military just because they'll pay for your school dont do the marines unless your really into it. Marines are the cockiest but greatest branch of the military (several of my friends are marines so i know how they are). However, if you want to become a cop i suggest doing army and becoming an MP since you'll get some experience in that field. goodluck with whatever you choose
 
Doesnt the Navy have their own College as well? In Indiana? But i think you need to have a score of 25 on the ACT to get into there. But im not sure about the requirements to get accepted into Air Force Academy. The Marines have the ROTC program which is 22+ ACT score. Do you know what the best choice would be to become a MP / Police Officer after i am out? And i would prefer the reserves but dont mind active duty.
 
Also, some words that stuck with me from a former marine force recon operator: If you dont know what you want to do, join the Army. If you want to see the world, join the Navy. If you want to kill people, join the Marines. And if you want to have a life outside the Military, join the Air Force.
 
If you join the Army, chances are you are going to Afghanistan and same with the Marines.

The Marines are more of a brute force type of group, which is why they are crazy as fuck, jacked as shit, and often are the ones getting shot at. They are usually the first group into a combat situation, unlike the Army which usually comes in afterwards and is kind of the average soldier.

If you decide to join the Marines, it will probably be one of the most difficult tasks of your life, but it seems like that you at least have gotten a good idea of what you will be going through from talking with a recruiter
 
Well my brother is a Marine, so i am really close with the Marines and i made sure they were the first branch i contacted. The next branch i talked to was the army, and i really like the recruiters i have met with from the army. My dad was in the Air Force so he wants me to go that route. But i am only choosing based on what branch will get me a job as an MP, and will give me the best academic benefits.

But seeing how my GPA is so low and i am at risk of failing my senior year and having to stay back another year, i am in a pickle.
 
Talk to all the recruiters and find out for yourself. i could sit here and tell you why I think the marines are the best and why I plan on reenlisting in a few months, however I have found the Marine lifestyle to be fitting and not much unlike my own, other people wouldnt last a week in the Marines. Not saying it is harder it is just a different work ethic and life view point.

Any branch will pay for your college, and every branch has the same pay scale so dont let anyone tell you differently.

I have been in for 6years now and have served with every service, and been stationed on every type of base there is. Air force gets the most money, however it is considered the civilian side of the military. Marines are the "tip of the spear" but get all the other services broken and unwanted gear.

The main difference between the Marines and the Army is that the Marines are a rapid action force, they go in fuck shit up and leave (hopefully before the country really has time to react) the Army on the other hand is considered to be more of an occupying force. They come in set up camp, kill all the bad guys and help to rebuild, according to paper.

However most of that went out the fucking door with the Iraq and Afghan war. the Marines were utilized in the way the Army is supposed to be, because the war was so haphazardly thrown together and not thought out. anyways thats a completly different topic lol.

Like I said no one on here is gonna be able to tell you if you should join or not or wether you should join one service or another, if your heart isnt into joining the Marines then dont do it, God knows I wouldnt want someone in my Corps who doesnt want to actually be there and work hard and do their part.

DONT JOIN JUST FOR FREE COLLEGE, you will end up hating everyday of your life for the entire 5 year contract, most likely you wont want to do anything your told, will continuesly punished, never get promoted, and get out 5 years later with a horrible experience and no college degree. Seen it happen soo many times. heed my warning... but you wont
 
I am about 70% sure i will be joining the airforce. Not sure which part (i dont think I am smart enough to be a fighter pilot) but its the least physical and you get to fly
 
Join the National Guard and don't get shot at or have to blow any farmers up.
Or join the Coast Guard like a true G and barely even be in the army haha.
 
"Get to fly" isn't the best way to look at it. It's real tough to get a pilot slot and make it through flight training, and there's becoming more and more of a chance you'll be stuck flying UAVs. I'm applying to the Academy now (tough to get in to so idk if I'll end up going) and hoping to fly eventually. Good luck if you decide to go that route.

OP, pick a branch that you think you would enjoy and find meaningful work in, otherwise you make it way harder on yourself.
 
im so stoked im filling out my paperwork for Military College for next year. im gonna be going for Air Force, i dont see why id go for anything else. good luck dude, ill be really stoked if i get accepted
 
I'm not sure if i would want to actually join the military... but if i had to choose i would go with marines, its a challenge... if i made it past the boot camp and earned the title "marine" i would be damn proud of myself! i love challenges, so that is the only reason i would go for the hardest one.
 
I'd join the Coast Guard. As far as I know they are entirely domestic so if you wanna stay in America sign up with them.
 
My boyfriend enlisted in the Army in may and just left for Basic Training and is doing the Army Airborne. He talked to the Marine recruiters as well as the Air force but he liked Army the best. You should really go talk to all of them and see whats best for you.
 
With your GPA, you will make a great human shield. Start eating more so that you can offer a little bit better protection to the soldiers.
 
ROTC is definitely a good way to go if you want your college paid for and want a job right out of college. basically they pay for you to go thru college but on top of your regular core requirements you take some military classes and stuff and you have to give them at least 4 years of service. definitely worth looking into, i'd go navy, navy is tight and you can do cooler shit in that branch in my opinion. and, i dont want to be a dick or anything but they dont take just anyone, you have to have pretty good grades and test scores to get into something like that. if not, you can just enlist. good luck bro
