Which mac?

hey so im looking into getting a mac, and gettin rid of my gateway. i really want to get into video editing but not sure if i should go with a mac mini, or a macbook. (i dont have to much money) so it would take a little longer to get a macbook but is it worth it? im going to be using mostly for music video editing and school work. are laptops good for video editing or do you want a desktop? some info would help thanks.

i got a macbook and i love it
if your gonna be doing alot of editing you shood probaly get the g5 or macbook pro

im starting to think that a laptop would be the way to go, when your like on ski trips and have homework and shit to do, but if i just got like an external harddrive or something and did all my editing on that?

ya dude. ive done a lot of editing on my macbook. its a little slow than what a desktop would be but it works. You'll defiantly need a external drive though, the vids take up a lot of room.

it doesn't matter if its a laptop or a desk top it depends on how much ram you have. usually you can either buy 512 mega bites all the way up to like 3 or 4 gigs of ram. the more ram you have, the faster your videos will load and play and your computer will just work better in general. and i don't know if its an option for you but i would get the largest hard drive in the computer i could. its not a whole lot more than an external hard drive and plus it is way more convenient. if you buy it, don't download limewire or any programslike that because i did and i lost all my footage.

i got the imac its so fucking dope everyone who sees its like 'oh shit you thats an illlll computer'

also getting a macbook pro too

my oponion
i got a macbook pro its my favorite computer

i dont really like the macbook. the keyboard is kinda spread out and it annoys me, the keyboard doesnt light up, screens a little smaller.

never used a mac mini. from what i hear i dont think its something id buy. but it could be for you.

the macbook is better all around because it has portability just sickness but the mac mini is deff gonna be better for video editing (although it will still be shit to a mac pro or mbp). The mac mini just has a better graphics integration.

Actually my bad, I think both share the graphics integration with the main processor. Id still get a macbook if the mini had a dedicated card though because the macbook is a laptop and once you get a laptop its hard to imagine not having one. I got a macbookpro myself and really like it for a number of reasons.

The mini is pretty much a laptop in a tiny case with no screen. So... go with the macbook. with more memory (not from apple... takes 5 minutest to install yourself)

Also, wait till june!!!! they always announce new or updated products at macworld.

If you got the cash spring for a macbook pro. But if you're just going to us iMovie and shit then you'll be fine with a macbook.

ok so im going to get the macbook, but i would really like a macbook pro, just a little to expensive for me. but i heard that you can custom make them or something? like get rid of programs ypu dont want to make it cheaper? is this true?

When you get an external hard drive go with a firewire hd because usb goes on short bursts of traveling stuff between your hd and the computer but firewire is a more stable connection, thus better for editing.

im makin the same decision but i want one to record my music, im gettin either a mac mini or a powermac, they are the most computer for the money, but i already have a pretty good hp laptop.
