Which is better Contour or GoPro

so which one ????

is more hd

better for skiing

and ye just wanna hear some input cause im thinking of getting one of them helmet cameras
 
there is a ton of information on this topic around here... just search and you will find all your answers.

it seems that people like the gopro more (more sturdy, easy to make mounts for) but they both shoot 60fps and 1080p respectively. watch some videos on youtube with comparison and buy one. you wont be disappointed with either.

my threads, the contour is slightly cheaper for the same 1080 p hd so I would think it comes down to quality, I juts got a contour 1080 HD the other day so I havn't gotten to use it yet but i'm stoked!
 
how do they support the industry any more than contour?
Seriously though there are only a couple real features to consider when looking at them. I just went through the same process. Ill just outline the cons for each as the pros are all there.
Contour is only water resistant, not waterproof, snow catches in the lense but can be wiped away, it only shoots 110 degrees, and is not as good in bright light.
GoPro shoots a wider angle, but is not as good to shoot distance shots, somewhat bulky, more of a helmet cam oposed to wearing on the goggles like the contour.
 
I WENT PRO TODAY AND PURCHASED A GO PRO HD BECAUSE ITS MORE HD AND I WANT TO FILM IN THE WATER AND AT SWEET ANGLES INSTEAD OF BEING LIMITED TO SMELLY GOGGLE STRAPS
 
I'd go GoPro just for the simple reason that it is water proof and has a pretty good hardcase to protect it. Both are great, so it depends pretty much on what you're gonna do with it.

And from the video above comparing the two, i prefer the brighter more colorful image that GoPro offers.

One thing I really like about the Contour is how it's so easy to start recording. GoPro can be a little tricky on top of your head.
 
it seems like the videos on the contour and gopro website look alot better then they do when other people do. is there some sort of trick to this?
 
with the new firmware update

there is a setting where you can set it on it and to start recording you turn the camera on, to stop recording you turn the camera off. Its called one button mode or something and it sounds as easy or easier that the contour
 
and the go pro does a better job at removing wind from the shot. like in the video the noise the wind made was a whole lot quieter then the noise from the contour

question: with the contour, there are 2 switches on the inside labled "high, low" what is the difference and what do you want it set at for skiing?
 
Both have pros and cons.
Contour is cool cause you can adjust the direction it shoots with out remounting and it has a lovely little laser to show you where it is pointed. It also has one giant slide button for recording or not recording. Kinda hard to mess that one up. You can get plenty of mounts for it. You can mount it ontop of the helmet or on the goggle strap. The reason for the less wide angle is cause it puts out a better image for distance... like if you were sailing or sky diving or whatever the image still is relatively undistorted.Con's... its mic location pics up a bit more noise. I've seen some problems with the format, last I checked it was a format that didn't come standard on PC's and you needed a codec for it. This very well may have changede. There is no chest mount for it so for non helmet/goggle wearing sports, it could be a bit weird to figure out.
GoPro is cool cause the image is a bit brighter and it comes with a bit more out of the box, but also at a bit higher cost. It's best quality is the chest mount which can be used for a lot of sports with great stability. The wide angle lens looks pretty neat for things closer up. Con's... The helmet mount looks a bit gooberish and awkward. Imagine getting a little to close to a tree and having it slam into the camera...Not exactly low profile. The buttons are a bit small... so on a 0 degree powder day... you may be a little annoyed with needing to take the gloves off occasionally.

Personally, I prefer the low profileness/ease of the contour camera a bit more considering i dont do anything that i couldn't use the helmet/pole/goggle mounts for. It is a bit darker, but nothing a rendering through nearly any video editor cant handle.
 
i have owned both. the video quality can be rendered to no difference at all. the weight of the contour is so much smaller and WEIGHS LESS. weight is a huge thing. the ease of the contour is great.
 
valid argument^

you dont see professionals using contours, yet many go pros have been spotted

also i think that that one video with the split screen and the fact that it it mostly shock proof and water proof should end the argument
 
the contour is absolute SHIT with wind noise.

I love my Go Pro, its super solid. I have straight up abused my it. Its taken everything like a champ. Recently I crashed with it and had it fall a great distance to the pavement (20ish feet, don't ask). I broke the latch, but everything else was fine and it was still recording.

When I emailed Go Pro support to order a new latch, they got back to me within a day asking for the model number and my address. Within a week I had a new latch shipped to me FOR FREE!

Go Pro not only makes a great, bomb proof, waterproof camera, but they 100% back up their product with fast, friendly service. This is one company I will definitely stand behind.

...oh, and my friend is a pro.
 
GoPro has a wider angle and is more durable. Contour is more user friendly but has a smaller angle. I guess its different strokes for different folks. I personally wouldn't mind either.
 
for people saying contour is more user friendly might not hold true anymore, go pro recently released a firmware where you can put it on a setting similar to the countours.

You press the front button to turn it on and it immediately starts recording video and to stop recording video you turn the camera off. Essentially the same thing as the contour but the go pro has many other setting options and ultimately just kicks ass

i got a SD hero wide for a year to see if i liked it and i loved it so i just upgraded to the HD yesterday for 219 bucks, hopefully its in the mail soon :D
 
I have used both and I honestly like the contour better simply because it is not as bulky. You can attach the contour to the side of your goggle strap and you will never even know it's there, go pro is big and blocky. Both seem to shoot very well, i simply like the contour because of it's low profile.

I like the way gopro video looks better. Its brighter. That and its mainstream enough to the point where if you need a new mount for something weird, its already been made. And I think the sound is better with gopros.
 
Go Pro FTW!!! i dont wanna explain how it is. its just easier. man the countour is bigger and its not as good ahah .

I have had 2 gopros (hd and sd) they both amazed me. So amazing.

just go for it.

On the contour HD, the "high" setting is a normal angled 1080p video, while the low is a wide angled 720 video. I prefer this because it gives the shot a bit of fish-eye and doesn't sacrifice too much quality.

As far as the arguement goes, I can't give a definate choice, but I own a countour HD and have used a gopro before. Of the two, I prefer my contour. As said earlier, it's a ton easier to start and end filming; the slide feature is simple and ensuring. Plus you can't argue with the quality of the footage, watch any if the main filiming companies this season, they all used contours.
 
(GoPro) Yea I experienced this the other day and it was kinda frustrating, but everything else about using my gopro for the first time was great. I think once I get used to it it'll be fine.

Note the top pic 1.5.2 is a Drift firmware test. (which hasn't been released yet) as you can see pixel for pixel it's banging. We are trying to get the colors popping without looking over saturated. V1.3 is what currently ships with the Drift.

Get the gopro.... but not just one. Buy two of them. I was dicking around on their site just now and they are making a 3d kit so you will be able to film 1080p 3d if you have two. But I have a go pro and it was the best $250 I have ever spent. You can turn anything into an edit. Even making pool edits is sick
