Which Digital SLR to buy???

Ok, so I sold a bunch of crap to save $$$$ for a new SLR. I am looking at Canons mainly...the Digital Rebel SLR (black body), the 20D or new 30D. What's your take on those or should I look into Nikons, Samsung's new one, Olympus, etc. I want something that will last me atleast 5 years, have a good fps rate, ease of use. I will be using it for family portraits, urban photography, landscapes, and maybe a little skiing (haha, right, a lot of skiing). Any help would be great and don't try to be creative and say search bar.
 
it depends on how much many you have too. and keep in mind that you may want to invest in lenses, filters, and other stuff in addition to buying a body.

20d-takes amazing pics for a pretty decent price now because of the the 30d

-also 5fps which is nice for sequences

d70-nice quality pics, decent price, includes 18-70mm lens in package which is really nice

-3fps which isnt awesome but works, also you would be able to buy more accesories(bags, tripods, cards,etc.) because of lower price

In my view the 20d and d70 are your two best options

Also you may want to look at the d50 for a cheaper price
 
From what im hearing from you, i think the rebel would be perfect. I shoot with a rebel. And make sure to BUY GOOD LENSES, bad lenses will ruin a camera.
 
A bad lens wont ruin a camera, but instead wont take full advantage of the camera's resolution. A bad lens will create soft, distorted, low contrast images no matter what the camera's resolution.
 
Depends on what you can afford. If you have a lot of cash, definatly get the 30D. But I'd rather have you get the digi rebel XT and spend some $$ on glass, than get the 30D and have to use 1 shitty lens. And the XT is a good camera for the price. I got mine with the 18-55 kit for $716. then I got some decent lenses
 
Does anyone know how many fps the rebel does??? There are some really nice bundled packages on ebay, do you think the lenses that come with those are garbage? Let me know. Thanks fellas. jea
 
Okay...I'm narrowing it down...you guys have hooked it up massive, thanx. I'm looking at the Canon 20D with 2 lenses, filters, case, bag, 1G card, card reader, 2 tripods, cleaning kit for like $1,200......or.......the Digital Rebel XT SLR (black body) with all of the above for about $950. Is it worth it to get 5 fps on the 20d instead of 3fps on the Rebel. Also, pic quality, are they pretty comparable?
 
uh...a 20d body alone should be around $1200. kinda makes you wonder about the quality of the other stuff you're getting. nor do you need a card reader and 2 tripods.
 
ya exactly, i just purchased a d50 body off amazon from a seller not a store on may 12, it hasnt arrived or has he answered emails, luckily i did the purchase through amazon. i cancelled the order
 
This package seems pretty legit mang...digital corp is a huuuuge ebay seller and sigma lenses are pretty good, why you dissin? I added all of that stuff up and it is like atleast 2,500.

I have a d70 with a sigma 70-200 f2.8 which i shelled out 1200 bucks for. It's just taht sigma's low end lensen suck SO HARD.

And alot of the stuff in that package is complete bullshit! Like that wide angle converter. WTF man, that's the kind of crap optics you screw onto your mom's handy cam. Do whatever you wan't man. I'm just trying to help you, because i have had my fair share of Low End sigma's and all i kan say is that they Suck Anal liquid. whatever that means...

This is just my 2 cents. Good look on buying. you can't go wrong with the 350D/D70/D50. all those cams kick ass.

ya totally agree, id say get a d50/d70 body with 50mm 1.8 nikkor lens or a used 10d with a decent canon lens(dont know much about canon)
 
DONT FUCKING DO IT. THE ONLY LEGIT THINGS IN THAT PACKAGE ARE THE CAMERA AND THE CARD, EVERYTHING ELSE WILL BLOW. TRUST ME
 
ya dont buy one of those packages, they dont help you out at all........go to skateperception.com and check there forums/classifieds. It is a very helpful website when making decisons involving cameras, id say checking there first would be your best bet.. remember dont get one of those packages
 
I'd say the 30D because you wond have to buy another Digital for like 10 years.. or ever... cause i have the D30 and its still great, i'm just going to upgrade cause i feel like it.. and i'm hopeing to buy the 30D
 
thats if you can dish out a shit load more money.. plus you'd also have to buy a flash, which i'm planning on doing anyways.. but i dunno i think it would just be alot easier to dish out money for the 30d rather than a 5D, like hell i'd buy a 1DsMark II if i had the money for it, but i dont, so i cant.
 
damn really? this is intreaguing me to maybe purchas one off them.. but first i'd have to get rid of my D30... hmmm?
 
30D or step up to the 5D.

Don't go rebel though..at least step up to the 20D.

The shutterspeed and FPS are a lot better I believe.
 
thanks guys, you're throwin' me a lot of legit, quality advice. keep it coming. i'm really stuck on the 20d and 30d now. i'll probably just pick one up body only and get a cannon lens (18-55).
 
oh-em-geeya...i think i found what i'm looking for, check this out for me homies make sure it is legit. I will probably get a bigger card, filters, fish eye and a bigger lens like mentioned above.
