Which Canon Camera?

I'm looking to get a mid range Canon DSLR for my birthday. Always been a Nikon person and have no idea what I want. Shooting primarily film... want the best slow motion capability, so highest fps.

Thoughts?

+k for good feedback.

If you have always been a nikon person, why do you want a canon? Do you have any nikon gear? Also check the sticky, we need to know budget, experience, etc. to help make the right suggestions

my bad man... my friends who is a non-ns member is actually the one looking for it.

I shoot with a nikon d7000 and a handful of lenses... but I mostly shoot regular photography.

The skill level is intermediate/advanced.

Price range is limited at around $1600

look at the sticky post.If your doing only video, a T2i would be fine, but if you/he wants to do photography, the 60d or 7d would be better. They havea deal for a T3i and 2 kit lenses (18-55 and 55-250) for only $599 (as opposed to $500 with body only) on right now at B&H.

All the canon DSLRs pretty much do the same video quality, the t3i, 7d and 60d have the same sensor I believe. The 60d and 7d are just better for photos (better AF more frames per second in continuous pictures), and they have better build quality. Might be better off getting a T2i/T3i with some good lenses/stabilization (glidecam)/mic

what lenses do you have?

because if you have nice glass, it may be better to stick with nikon, though they can be adapted. Also, when you say shooting film, do you mean video, or actual film?

at this point, I would say get the d3200 and then invest in more glass/stabilization. YOu will have a solid backup photo body, and it does 720/60p. Plus the d7000 has decent video. Alternative would be a gh3, 1080/60p, and nikon lenses are popular for gh2 shooters, but you will lose a little bit in your workflow unless you want to do only stills on the d7000 and only video on the gh3 (avchd vs h.264 etc.). Also, they are different crops.
