and if it matters i am 5 foot 7 and 130 pounds. thanks for any input and plus karma!

Get the specialized. I LOVE their bikes. They handle really well, have smart geometry, and have very good components.

i have ridden both the trance and the fsr, and i preferred the trance. the other two i know nothing about. are you buying from a shop? if so, go try out the bikes first and whichever feels best riding flat, and leaning back over the seat is the one you should probably get, after taking into account the components and price. specialized and giant are both great companies, i prefer the durability of a specialized frame. jamis frames are always uncomfortable for me, but i've heard good things about the durability of the frames.

hope that helps a bit.

ya that helps. i will be buying from a shop. before i buy any of them i will definetly make sure that i demo them. and i can get like a 20% discount on the specialized.

Santa Cruz kill it. Also, they handle longer travel forks really well, which is probs what you need for gnarlier shit.

I purchased a superlight (08 model) for 1100 and i've been super happy with it. I'd recommend anyone who wants an amazing frame at a great price.

I have the Trance x2 and i love it so much. Granted its not exactly a cross country bike, it is fairly light but has stood up to some abuse. The suspension setup works very nicely and it doesnt feel like it has a loose back end. And its great stock bike for the price, good parts for the price.

i raced xc for a while on a titus racer x, best bike i've ever ridden for xc racing
personally i don't like FSR suspension. after the titus i rode a blur xc which was good but not nearly as fast as the titus, that thing just hammers
the frames pop up on chainlove every once in a while, check it out, i loved that bike
